Evaluation: Question 1 (Front cover)

Page 2: Evaluation: Question 1( Front cover)

In What way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Evaluation: Question 1( Front cover)

• My magazine cover follows the typical conventions of a music magazine. Comparing my style model to my final products there are some similar features represented in both.

BannerAcross the top of my cover I have created a black banner with white text. This feature is also represented in my style model however different colours, font type and font size have been used. My banner shows the names of 3 different bands which will be shown in the magazine. It is very common for rock magazines to do this although this is not shown in the style model I have used which is from ‘Q’. This is more common in magazines such as ‘kerrang.’

Masthead The masthead I have used is similar to my style model as they both use red boxes with white text However the text is in a different font. I go my font text from 1001 fonts. I chose this font type because I thought it looked distressed and had a grunge look to it. ‘Q’ magazine use that name for their magazine as it stands for queue the music. I named my magazine bold because it was more innovative.

Storylines I set out my text the same way that my style model did. The storylines are justified down the margin. Like my style model I have given extra information about the articles underneath the name. I have put the celebrities name in a bigger text than the rest as it is the most important information and is more likely to catch the readers attention. Like the style model I have also separated each of the articles with boxes to make the cover clearer to read and understand.

Main ImageFor the image on the cover of my magazine I have followed the conventions of the real media product. Naomi Wolfs theory can be shown through my music magazine. Magazines often show beautiful women on the covers of their magazine to entice people to buy the magazine. These types of images are shown to attract the attention of the male audience enticing them to buy and read the magazine and they attract the attention of the female audience by making them want to aspire to look like the woman on the cover.

Main story lineAbove my main story line I have added a quotation of an interesting line which is in the article. This will encourage the reader to buy the magazine to read the rest of the article. I put the name of the artist in the article title and put it in a bigger font to make it stand out since it is the article on the celebrity in the cover .
