How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation
stages?
Blogger
• I used blogger to create a blog onto which I could upload all of my coursework. At times I also created my work actually within blogger, where only typing something up was needed as part of the task.
• This has helped amazingly as it is a simple and fast way of getting all my coursework in the same place, and it lays it all out in a clean and simple way.
• However, it is a bit more plain than other types of blogs.
Digital SLR camera
• Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera• I was going to just use my iPhone to record the video,
however when I spoke to the model she told me that she had this camera I could borrow
• This helped tremendously, as the camera quality was much better and allowed me to try techniques I never would have been able to attempt with just a phone.
• I used this camera to record all video, and the photos for use in the ancillary tasks.
• This made me more creative, as I was able to do things I had never done before and expand my knowledge.
Excel
• I used Microsoft Excel to create a spreadsheet in which I could create a diary to keep on track of the tasks, as well as pie charts for my audience feedback results
• Excel is a very simple program to use which helped me, because having a diary to hand which told me what I needed to do next stopped me from worrying and then slowing down in my production.
• However, it isn’t very creative, as everything within it is basic.
Glogster
• I used this to create a mood board, from which I could focus on the key ideas for my products and make sure I stick to what I had planned.
• It was very beneficial, as it is a creative way to get the information needed so I can keep looking at it for more info, plus it is easy to embed into the blog for everyone else to see.
• However, when put into the blog it sometimes doesn’t work well, as the text can look small and the images can be misshapen.
• This made me more creative as I had to think about how to overcome these problems.
• I used Google a lot within this project, for various reasons. Whenever I needed an image to reference for my own products, it came from Google, and whenever I wasn’t sure what to do with a certain product I researched on Google in order to gain inspiration.
• Google is the best search engine to use in my opinion, as it is quick and gives you a wide variety of results.
• However, it did stop me from looking for other types of sources, because finding things online became too easy.
InDesign
• I used InDesign to create my digipak.• I measured up the images to the right
dimensions using the CD template provided, and had the opportunity to see how the digipak looked when put together.
• This helped immensely, as I was able to make sure everything was right before saving it, and once the images are exported it then becomes simple to import it into other programs.
iPhone
• I used my iPhone to contact the model and make sure that everything was sorted for the shooting of the video.
• This helped greatly because I didn’t need to worry about everything being ready for the day, because I could find out at any point how things were going, and whether there would be any problems with the model getting to the location.
Photoshop
• I used Photoshop to edit all of my images for use in the digipak, and to create my magazine advert.
• I decided to make the advert in Photoshop instead of Indesign because I had better knowledge of this program and knew that I would be able to do certain things much better than I would with Indesign.
• This made me more creative, because I learned how to do things that I would have never have tried otherwise, and I feel it created a much better quality product than I would ever have been able to produce otherwise.
Pixton
• I used Pixton to look at Genre Conventions• I decided to use this program because I had very
limited experience with it, and wanted to learn more
• I feel this helped me because I was able to gain knowledge about a new program, therefore making me more creative.
• However, I wasn’t particularly skilled with it, so I decided to just use it for that one task, not wanting to lower the quality of the rest of my work.
PowerPoint
• I used Powerpoint for a lot of different tasks, because it is a very simple product to use, and can be shared in a variety of ways
• Although there are things you can customise within it, PowerPoint is probably one of the least interesting technologies used in my project, and if I could have done the coursework again I would have used it less
• However, it is a very good program to use when you need to do something quickly and make sure it has a clean presentation, so I don’t feel it has lowered the overall quality of my coursework, even if it isn’t too creative.
Premiere pro• I used Premiere Pro to create my music video• I have prior experience with the program through recreational
use, so I knew how to use the program to create a high-standard video
• However, despite my prior knowledge I still learned a lot through the use of the program in this project, because I tried things I had never done before. The use of effects was my greatest lesson from this project, as I’d never really dared to touch them before, but in my music video I used them a lot and was amazed at the results.
• Therefore using the program has made me a lot more creative, and has opened my eyes to different approaches you can take when completing a project like this.
Prezi
• I used Prezi to complete a lot of tasks within my coursework, because I had prior experience with it and knew it was good for uploading multimedia and being able to write about it.
• It is a simple program to use and creates high-level results, but it does take a while to make everything perfect it each Prezi document.
Slideshare
• I used Slideshare to upload all the Word and PowerPoint documents onto the blog
• The program is very simple and quick to use, and was very helpful as the embed option works perfectly with Blogger
• However, there isn’t much you can say about it creatively, because you don’t have any editing options within the website
SurveyMonkey
• I used this program to create and collect the information from the audience feedback surveys
• It was very beneficial to use, as they are easy to create, easy for the target audience to access so they can complete the surveys, and the results are easily collected
• Using this program did make me more creative, as the website doesn’t create the pie charts for you, so I had to copy all the results into Excel and then create the pie charts from there, increasing my knowledge of both systems
USB
• I used a USB to collect all of my materials in order for me to use them whenever they are needed
• It was extremely beneficial because I was able to access everything from the one point, which meant that nothing was lost during any point of the coursework
YouTube
• I used YouTube to access any video materials I needed, and to upload my own music video in order to embed it into the blog
• This is an amazing program to use because everything that I searched for in order to aid my work within this coursework was there, and it is really easy to use
• However, uploading my video onto the system was awful, it took a few hours and once it was done the video quality had been cut down, so if I had the chance I’d find an alternate service to upload my video onto
