How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?VISHAL PANWAR

Research: Film

For my researching stage for the film I used two types of media technologies. I used YouTube which is a website where you can watch any video to search for short horror films. I typed in the search engine ‘short horror film’ and I was presented with a few short horror which I could choose from. I used this technology because it was I knew that I will find a good quality short horror film on here. This was an effective website because I found good quality short horror films which I would gain massive knowledge from.

To collate my findings I used Blogger. I felt this was not the best method to collate my findings. This is because I was unable to make any arrows if I wanted to point at a specific element on the scene on the short horror film. The only solution for me was to write the annotations under the screenshot I took.

Research: Poster

For my researching stage I used two types of media technologies. To search for the posters I used the internet, Google to be more precise and to annotate the posters I used Word document. I used the internet by using the search engine ‘Google’ and I typed in the search bar ‘horror film posters’. I used this method because it was quick, easy and cost effective. The internet was successful as I was able to obtain a different range of horror film posters.

To annotate the posters I liked, I used Microsoft Word. I enlarged the poster in the middle of the page, allowing space on the outside to write the annotations. I used this technique because it was the most appropriate method to annotate an A4 document. This technique was successful because it allows me to use arrows to point out specific elements on a poster. To present my findings on to blogger, I used Scribed. On here I was able to upload my word document and embed it on to blogger.

Research: Review

For my researching stage I used two types of media technologies. To search for the film reviews I used the internet, Google to be more precise and to annotate the reviews I used PowerPoint. I used the internet by using the search engine ‘Google’ and I typed in the search bar ‘film reviews’. I used this method because it was quick, easy and cost effective. The internet was successful as I was able to obtain a different range of film reviews.

To annotate the film reviews I used Microsoft PowerPoint. I enlarged the posters in the middle of the landscape page and annotated around it. It made sense to use PowerPoint because I was annotating double page spreads which were landscape and PowerPoint was also landscape. I used this technique because it was the most appropriate method to annotate an A2 document. This technique was successful because it allows me to use arrows to point out specific elements on a review. To present my PowerPoint document, I used an external website called PowerShow.com. This was effective because users can play, pause and fast-forward the slides if they want to.

Filming

To record our film we used the Panasonic HDC- HS350 camera. I was responsible for recording the film so I took the camera out before starting the filming and made myself familiar with it. I held the camera in my right hand and placed my left hand under the camera and the ‘record’ button to start filming. The camera did not have many difficult features which mean that it was easy to use. This gave me better control of the camera. This camera was successful when filming as it delivered high quality videos.

However, the camera’s battery died at one point during the filming. This meant that we had to use the best alternative which as a Sony Xperia Z1. This was particular successful as the quality of the clips were poor. This was not effective in our film most of the film’s quality was good but we had two clips with bad quality which made the film look unprofessional.

Storyboards

To create storyboard I initially drew them out on paper. I then took pictures of them and uploaded the image to Microsoft paint so I could crop it and insert it in Microsoft word for me to annotate them. Using paint was effect because I was able the ‘selection tool’ and draw a rectangle around the particular storyboard and isolate each of the scenes in the storyboard.

I then used Microsoft Word to annotate the storyboard. I was able to add the scenes from my storyboard and write under them which was effective. I then uploaded it to Scribd and embedded it ion to my blog.

Editing

To make the first two drafts of the film we used Movie Marker due to its simplicity. We knew its I features because we had experience with this software in the past. However, editing the film in Movie Maker was not effective because the clips had a second pause between each other which led to it looking unprofessional.

We solved this issue by editing the film in a higher quality software called Adobe Premier Pro CS6. We had to watch many YouTube tutorials to gain knowledge on how to use this software. We were able to make use of its features such as editing the light in ‘lighting effect’. Using this feature we were able to add a red effect to the scene where the ghost appears. Editing in Premier was more effecting as the clips and transitions were smooth.

Poster

To create the poster I used Adobe Photoshop CS6. The reason for that is I have used this software many times in the past and I was familiar with what each of the tools do. This software enabled me to edit the picture in all sorts of ways. Firstly I used the ‘transformation’ tool to enlarge the image I wanted to use so it fits the page. Doing this I was able to make Kaylah’s expressions the focus of the poster. I was able make it black and white, add a grain texture effect and make it dark around the border. I did all this by using different ‘layers’. That is the reason why I used this software. Using Photoshop was successful because my poster turned out looking professional.

Review

To create the film review I used Adobe Fireworks CS6. I had to used this software before, so I wanted to try out a new software. To gain knowledge on this, I watched many YouTube tutorials to teach myself. This software enabled me to add images, text and shapes using tools such as such as ‘star tool’ and the ‘rectangle tool’ to make the review look professional. This was a successful method as my review turned out to be professional.
