I used a variety of media technologies in order to create my film trailer and my two ancillary texts.
I
Research and Planning
This is the stage where I planned everything and looked at real media
products to help direct me in the right way.
In this stage I used YouTube as the main source of watching other trailers
and analyzing them to help me establish codes and conventions of a thriller
genre.
I analyzed three real life media products. Captain America, The taking of
Pelham 123 and Inception. This three films allowed me to see the codes
and conventions used in real media products as well as identify the timeline
of a trailer. Although the timeline of the trailer often change in each movie
they all pose the to the audience in the same manner.
YouTube
YouTube was the biggest contributor in helping me in the research and planning process. It helped me access real life media products which helped me gain ideas and thoughts of what I wanted my trailer to look like. At first I research conventions of a thriller film using the popular search engine Google. I then got YouTube videos which were about codes of conventions of a thriller genre and viewed them to help me gain broader knowledge of the thriller genre in general.
Web Browsers
• I used Google chrome and Safari to access the
internet. It helped me view real life media
products for example Hollywood trailers, Posters
and magazine cover. These two web browsers
also helped me access my blog.
CameraThis is the camera I used to film. It is a standard camera I borrowed from the college. I filmed on two occasions mostly occurring outdoors. I used the camera only during day time, This allowed me to get clear shots and not put myself or the camera in danger of taking a fall.
I used a camera in my AS year to film so I was comfortable filming and getting good camera angles however I wasn’t entirely comfortable using this particular camera. The first reason for that is because there was no microphone attached to it so I had to use a microphone attached to a boom pole which made the process of filming harder.
My end result has been changed as I was looking to
make my trailer appear as a Hollywood production but
the quality of the camera changes that. However with
the resources I had available I managed to do a
significant amount. I managed to get a variety of
camera angles to have as much raw footage available
which helps me In the editing process as I have a larger
selection of camera shots. This allows my trailer to be
well rounded and appear professional
This is the different stages of creating my sound
I am finally checking my sound
In this box I am about to create my sound on garage band
I have made my sound and I am exporting it from garage band to final cut pro
It is finally on final cut pro
• I used Photoshop to edit my two ancillary texts. I did not
feel comfortable with this software at first as It was my first
time using it. However I soon began to realize it was a user
friendly software which made it easier for me to create my
poster and magazine cover.
• The software allowed me to create an entirely new shot
from a number of images
• Overall the software has enhanced my product entirely
as it made my film poster seem more glamorous which
was, what I was after as I tried to emulate it from
Hollywood film poster inspiration. Without this software
my poster would look very insipid as it wouldn’t have
professional elements about it. Without this software I
would not have been able to manipulate the lighting of
my product as well as not being able to create the
thriller aura about it.
Magazine cover• For my magazine cover I also used
Photoshop. I used this software made
it easier for me to create my
magazine cover as I was already
familiar with the layout as have
already used it to create my film
poster.
Magazine cover
This is the first layout of a magazine cover I have seen. I then did further research and saw first hand all magazine covers have the same elements but have some minor changes in position. So in my magazine cover I replicated this layout.
• For my magazine cover I used standard photo of the main
actor. This was because he would be most recognized. I then
uploaded it on Photoshop. After uploading it I used an image
of the empire logo from Google images. I used the empire
logo as a masthead and the image of the main actor as the
main image. I included text on both sides of the image as
part of my cover lines. Finally I added the film name at the
bottom, the bar-code at the very bottom on the right hand
side and the selling line above the masthead. This was very
simple to do.
Wordpress
• I used Wordpress to record my media coursework.
Wordpress is user friendly as the layout is simple.
As a class we had one log in which we all had our
individual posts. This helped me categories my
work which made it easier to access.
YouTube
• I used YouTube to upload a video open to public
viewing. This in turn allows me to gain audience
feedback. YouTube is recognized world wide as it is
the most popular video-sharing website in the world.
With YouTube being very popular and With me
putting my trailer on YouTube it helps me reach my
target audience quicker. It helps raise awareness of
my trailer and reach a broader audience.
Provocateur official trailer
Here is my final video which is uploaded on YouTube.
It now has 16 views and 3 comments in the first couple of hours which isn’t too bad. This is the top comment
Motion
I used motion to create texts and my ident. This was effective as both of these elements can be found in every trailer. These conventions have to be included in a trailer to make it seem and appear as a trailer. For my trailer they were very effective as it distinguished my trailer from a film opening
This is me using motion to create my ident
