Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the process of making my music magazine, I have used different media and technologies in completing this project.

These are: Laptop, Computer, GIMP & Adobe Photoshop CS5 (editing software), SanDisk Memory stick, Microsoft PowerPoint, Slide share, YouTube, Nikon D3000, Wordpress, Microsoft Office Word 2007, Epson Stylus SX125 Scanner, Windows Movie Maker and dafont.com

Nikon D3000

This is the camera that I use to take pictures of my models and other things I could add into my magazine as it takes very good quality images.

sony VAIO & DELL

I use both of my laptop and computer. I use the computer mostly for editing as it is easier to use and written work on my laptop.

SanDisk

I carry this around at all times and have transferred every single files I have from my computer and laptop such as the photos I have taken from my camera.

Epson Scanner

This is what I have used to scan my first drafts of my music magazine which automatically transfers the documents to the computer.

GIMP, Photoshop CS5 & dafont

Every editing I have applied on the images and the layout of my magazine is edited in GIMP. At school, we were suggested to use Photoshop, but I had no idea how to use it, so I have decided to use GIMP as I have more skills in it.

These two software are very similar but GIMP is free to download!

I download fonts from the website www.dafont.com and transfer these into the ‘Fonts’ file of GIMP to enable me to use it.

Microsoft & Slideshare

I both use Microsoft word office and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 to present long written work into my blog.

I publish my documents to slideshare which allows me to embed the documents into my blog.

Wordpress, YouTube & Windows Movie Maker I have created my own blog from the website

www.wordpress.com to post all of my work to show all the research and planning of my music magazine including the final pieces and the Evaluation questions.

I have used windows movie maker to show all of the images of my model as a presentation and uploaded it to YouTube which also allowed me to embed the video to my blog.

What I have learnt

It did took me time in producing this project but because of this, I have learnt to use a lot of other technologies I have never used before such as: Wordpress, Slideshare and Photoshop.

Now that I have the intelligence in using these different technologies, I will be showing improved skills for my upcoming projects.

The Importance of Technology

New technology is very useful for me as it allowed me to do a lot of things much easier.

Skype is an online messenger where it allowed me to communicate with other people that are part of my focus group who lives far away which made it a lot easier for me to gather all the information I needed.

I’ve also used facebook messaging which allowed me to communicate with some of them, but was much more difficult as some words we were trying to send each other could not be shown.

Progression

My editing skills have improved a lot ever since our preliminary task. Most of the pictures I have used for the school magazine was not edited as I did not care about its importance.

I have browsed editing tutorials through YouTube for the software that I use (GIMP) which has also helped me improve my editing skills not just for the photos but also the structural of the magazine.
