Exalted Rulers Message Dear Members, I wish to thank all of the Elks from Bordentown that made the trip to St. Louis for our 155th Grand Lodge Session. The event was spectacular in many ways, and I am certain that all enjoyed themselves. The focus of our Convention this year was the Program Spending of our organization nationally and how the efforts of the Elks has changed lives! Of the $36.9 Million Budget, 93% goes directly to Program Spending. This is well above the industry standard of 65%. The entire Convention was very educational as well as motivating. I cannot convey in words how humbling and proud Karen and I were to be representing Bordentown. Not only in front of other Lodges from our State, but to other members nationwide. As always the State of New Jersey held their own and received many of the awards. The Convention also welcomed the newly elected Grand Exalted Ruler - Robert L Duitsman and his wife Beth from the state of California. Grand Exalted Ruler Duitsmans theme is; Honoring the Past - Embracing the Future.ER Duitsman spoke about the importance of honoring the orders unique history and tradition and he encourages Elks to reach out to our communities and engage in activities to promote the Elks brand. Elkdom is alive and well across this great land of ours and were going to continue it together! More on the Grand Lodge session is in the following pages of the Bulletin with the daily breakdowns of activities along with the 15 resolutions that were voted on and whether they passed or failed. In Other News: To keep our Elks Lodge moving forward, it takes participation from many members. The organization can only be as active as its members. With that being said, we are currently trying to keep everyone efficiently informed through a variety of methods. This includes our Bulletin; our Website (www.bordentownelks.org); Facebook; Instagram; bar TV ads and Flyers posted at the Lodge. If there are other suggestions out there, please feel free to share them. REMINDER: We will hold only ONE Members Meeting on the 3rd Monday at 7:30pm for the months of August and September! All Committees are to be present for Reporting Duties. Finally, thanks again, to ALL of our Members for ALL that you do for the BPOE, and the Bordentown Elks Lodge #2085. I hope to see even more of you this coming month as I have completed my outside duties with both the State and National Conventions! Fraternally, Edward G. Pictured left to right are SSGT Raymond Lalley, who was instrumental in our meeting arrangements, Sharon Sharpe and SFC Kenneth Kiesel, who accepted the plaque. LT Brian Flaherty, was called away and could not be with us. It was heartwarming to hear, from the officers, how much the plaque was appre-ciated, and we were told it would be hung where all could see it. The plaque reads:

155th Grand Lodge Session Report:

Sunday, June 30, 2019:

6,885 Elks from all 50 states were welcomed at the Opening Ceremony for the 155th Grand Lodge Convention in St. Louis. The opening cere-monies were amazing with the Elks State Presidents carrying their state flag to the stage in celebration of our lodges and our commitment to our Communities and First Responders. Not only were the flags of all 50 states represented but also the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam in the Philippines and Panama. One of the big questions that was raise by the attendees was “are the Elks present throughout the con-tinental United States”? The obvious answer is a resounding “YES”!

The National Budget was introduced for the 2019 2020 fiscal year. It is a $36.9 million budget. An astounding 93% goes directly to program spending - well above the industry standard of 65%! This includes $13.7 million for the community investment program which includes a new grant this year, the Spotlight Grant which is a $2,000 grant that can be used to address either family literacy or veteran homelessness in the local lodge communities. This year‘s budget will be posted in the August Bulletin for review.

The keynote presentation was given by Grand Exalted Ruler Michael T Luhr, opening with congratulating the St. Louis Blues on winning the Stanley Cup. Luhr spoke about his experiences over the past year and especially the opportunity he had to present the Medal of Valor to the father of a fallen US Marine Michael D Scholl who died in Afghanistan in 2006.

Monday, July 1, 2019: DAY ONE

The leadership of the Elks got down to business on Day One with the first official business session of the 155th Grand Lodge and elected Robert L Duitsman of Culver City California, Lodge #1917 as Grand Exalted Ruler for the 2019-2020 year. The newly elected Grand Exalted Ruler spoke about his vision for our order, which is encompassed in his theme “Honoring the Past - Embracing the Future!” GER Duitsman spoke about the importance of honoring the orders unique history and tradition. He encouraged Elks to reach out to their communities and engage in activities to promote the Elks brand. His statement was clear “Elkdom is alive and well across this great land of ours and we’re go-ing to continue it together!”

Tuesday, July 2, 2019:

Day Two opened with the DEA Acting Director Uttam Dhillon, who addressed the delegation. He praised the Elks for taking pride in the young people of America and believing that they are the leaders of tomorrow. He also praised the Elks for taking action by distributing millions of pieces of drug awareness literature partnering with Marvel Comics and working in many other ways to inspire the nation’s youth to avoid the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse. Dhillon thanked the Elks for their participation in the Annual Red Ribbon Week, during which 8 million young people in schools across the country take a stand against drug abuse.

After the opening speeches, the Grand Lodge Session delegates voted on 15 Resolutions. The totals were 11 PASS and 4 FAIL. The Reso-lutions and the final results will be posted in the August bulletin.

Wednesday, July3, 2019:

The third day of the convention was the closing day. The morning consisted of a Memorial Service for the 3 Past Grand Exalted Rulers who had passed in 2019. This was followed by the installation of the 2019-2020 Grand Lodge Officers. Followed by the Installation of the District Deputy Grand Exalted Rulers for the 2019-2020 term.
