Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term 2. The Pope’s Easter message reached out to all displaced people of the world and those experiencing conflict, particularly in Syria. In fact his message extended to the whole world.
Dear brothers and sisters, this year Christians of every confession celebrate Easter together. With one voice, in every part of the world, we proclaim the great message: “The Lord is truly risen, as he said.” May Jesus, who vanquished the darkness of sin and death, grant peace to our days. The Risen Lord continues to shed his blessing upon the continent of Europe. May he grant hope to those experiencing moments of crisis and difficulty, especially due to high unemployment, particularly among young people.
People often comment how quickly the school holidays pass by. I trust that parents have enjoyed the daily company of their sons and daughters and that students will be returning to the College ready to do their best as they face the many challenges that confront young people today as mentioned in Pope Francis’ Easter message.
As we begin this term it is timely to remind our senior students that in nine weeks those students undertaking study of a Unit 3/4 subject will be sitting the General Achievement Test (GAT). It is also timely to point out that, in addition to set homework, our students should be summarising notes, continuing SAC preparations and assessments and working with their teachers to ensure that their class work, homework and revision programs will enable them to do the best they can.
CARITAS WALKATHON
Our walkathon, on the last day of Term 1, raised much needed funds for Caritas Australia. A total of just over $300 has been donated to the works of Caritas Australia which supports people to help themselves out of poverty, hunger and injustice. Caritas Australia works to bring relief and aid to people whose lives have been devastated by natural disaster or conflict.
PARENT – TEACHER MEETINGS Parent/Teacher meetings to discuss student’s progress will be held on Monday, 24th April from 2.00pm - 7.00pm. Interview times can now be booked through the Parent Access Module (PAM). Should families not have access to the internet, a parent is welcome to contact the school (telephone: 53823545) so that a booking can be made through the Front Office.
PUBLIC SPEAKING Earlier this week, Ethan Jolley (Yr 12) and Annabella Fort (Yr 9) spoke to members of Horsham Probus Club at their monthly meeting at Horsham RSL. Annabella spoke about her involvement with the 422 Squadron AAFC (Australian Air Force Cadets) and what she has gained from her involvement with the Cadets. Annabella spoke to Probus members about the Thursday night training sessions and how she has developed great leadership skills as well as increased responsibility and self-confidence. Annabella has a great awareness of respect for self and others which has been enhanced by the Rank system which is predominant in all facets of the military. Ethan is also a member of the AAFC and wishes to continue his family's tradition of being involved with the armed services. Ethan hopes to join the Royal Australian Air Force. Ethan's talk however, focused on his tour to Turkey - and particularly Gallipoli - as a member of the Premier's Spirit of ANZAC Tour in 2015. Ethan shared stories of his experiences on the tour including attending the Commemorative Dawn Service on the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC's first landing in 1915. Both students were recognised by the members of the Probus club as excellent ambassadors of St Brigid's College.
ANZAC DAY
As this ANZAC day approaches and we are reminded of the many sacrifices made for our great land, I pray that we take a moment to remember those affected by war. May we look around us with renewed optimism and thankfulness for the inspiring love, hope and beauty that surrounds us. Lest we forget.
Our St Brigid’s College students will join many others this coming Tuesday as we honour ANZAC day. As a school we will hold a remembrance service next Monday.

We were delighted to see one of our students, Maddie O’Neill - Crozier, on page 2 of the recent Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation Newsletter.
Maddie held a gig in the Horsham Plaza during the recent Horsham Country Music Festival. Maddie busked and
raised funds for the Foundation. Well Done Maddie!
