• If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.



HISTORY OF OFFERINGS

FIRST REFERENCE Abel and Cain offered (Gen.4: 4)

BEFORE MOSES TIME

All before Moses seems to be Burnt offering.

(Noah, Abraham, Job- Gen:8: 20; 22:8; Job.42:8) Usually the head of the families conducted.

FROM MOSES TIME

Specific rules were given (Lev. 1: 1)

In the presence of the Lord (Lev.1: 3; 5) Aaron and his sons were doing (Num.16: 40)

All the five offerings were fulfilled on the Cross.In each one we see a separate profile.All were not for sin; nor sweet smelling.

When put together we get it full;

Yet Father alone knows in its fullness

Learn, lest you may miss the profiles

(But with these shadow of things – Five different profiles put together, the understanding of the Cross is so great)



• DOES GOD NEED BLOOD ? Psalms 50:13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the

blood of goats ?

• Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

• Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

• Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

• Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow image of the things of good things to come.

LEVITICAL OFFERING(Burnt offering)

An offering but not for sin

Offerer must lay hand on the head and kill it;

Remove the skin, cut to pieces, wash and give

Aaron’s sons must lay it on the wood;

And burn all on the alter for the night

(If of fowl not separated as halves) Offerer just gives it to the priest and he.. (v.14-17)

Priest to take blood from offerer

Sprinkle or pour as required (v.5;11;15)

Offerer- he will be atoned (v.4; Heb. 9: 14)



Voluntary offering unto the Lord

Nothing without spending allowed. (Lev.1: 2)

Nothing with blemish allowed. (Lev.1:3: 10) Cut and washed before offering. (Lev.1: 9; 13)

(Shows no blemish externally or internally)

All was burnt on the alter. (Lev. 1: 9)

Nothing for offerer to take home. Nothing for the priest to eat. (Lev.1:9; 13)

(All burnt to be sweet smelling unto the Lord- v. 9; 13;17)



CHRIST THE LAMB OF GOD (Jn.1: 36)

(Burnt offering reveals the personality and work of Christ on which all our faith remains)

He voluntarily yielded to his father’s will

• Then I said; Lo, I come to do thy will (Ps.40: 7-8)• I seek not my own will, but (Jn.5: 30)• This cup which my father has given (Jn.18: 11)• I do always that pleases him (Jn.8: 29)• It is finished (Jn.19: 30)

(He took our sins only on the cross to takeaway)



In Burnt offering we see Christ who came to do his father’s will thru his yielded life and death and become a sweet smelling sacrifice.

(All it was – sweet smelling unto the Lord) Nothing for the offerer to take back home

Eph 5: 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.



2. MEAT OFFERING(Lev.2: 1-16)

RULES(Lev.2: 11-13; 6: 14-23; 7: 11-13)

Being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal;He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, (Phil.2:6;8)

Christ being found in fashion as a man,



MEAT (MEAL) OFFERINGS

Only offering having no blood (Lev.2: 3)

But most holy of the offerings of the Lord (Lev.6:17)

(Also not an offering for sin)

Whereby an offering he identifies us to himself (Thru his death burial and resurrection to his glorified body.)

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24)

(No corn was accepted as it is)

RULES IN OFFERING (Lev.2: 11-13; 6: 14-18; 19-23)

V.11 No meat offering , which ye shall bring unto the Lord,

shall be made with Leaven.

V.11 Ye shall burn no leaven, nor any Honey ,

V.12 they shall not be burnt on the alter.

V 13 Neither shalt thou suffer the salt lacking from thy meat offering

OFFERER (Lev.2: 1)• His offering shall be of fine flour;• He shall pour oil upon it• And put frankincense thereon: (Bring to Aaron’s sons)

AARON’S SONS THE PRIESTS (Lev.2: 2)• He shall take there out his handful of the flour thereof, • the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof;• The priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar,• To be an offering made by fire

(A sweet savour unto the LORD)

• Perpetual morning and evening (Lev.6:20) • Always done only with burnt offering only



• In the meal offering We see Christ living who identifies us to him (Thru his

death burial and resurrection) • We earthly cannot be identified to his heavenly nature, so

he passed thru death and resurrection. (to the glorified nature)

• As corn of wheat (from heaven) he fallen to the ground to identify us to himself (Eph.2:5-7)

• He was willing for it (John.12: 24)

(When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Col.3: 4)



3. PEACE OFFERINGLev.3: 1-17

Rules(Lev.7: 11-21; 28-34)

For he is our peace, hath broken down the middle wall of partition; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity,

(Eph.2: 14-15)

Is the food of the offering made by fire unto

LEVITICAL SACRIFICES(Peace offering)

Peace offering shows the fellowship, which his death has brought

• Having made peace through the blood of his cross (Col. 1: 20) (Peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. Ep.2:17)

• For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us (Eph.2: 14)

• That ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1.Jn.1: 3)

(Sacrifice sweet smelling unto the Lord)



• If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes (Lev.7: 12)

Besides he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving (v.13)

(Leavened bread as heave offering only offered)

• Of Heave offering; and it shall be the priest's that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings.(7: 14)

• The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning. (Lev.7: 15)



• If sacrifice of his offering be a vow, or a voluntary offering, shall be eaten the same day

• And on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten. (Lev.7: 16)

• Eaten on third day, shall not be accepted (v.17)

• Eateth having uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be

cut off from his people. (v.20; 21)

• His own (no proxy) hands shall bring (v.30)

(Shows our fellowship in worship) a. On the basis of any blessing? (v.15); b. On the memory of the finished work of Christ?-v.16)

LEVITICAL SACRIFICES(Sin offering)

1 Pet.2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

2 Cor.5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Heb.10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

LEVITICAL SACRIFICES(Sin offerings)

• WHAT WE WERE ?

1. We were sinners (Rom.5: 8)

A soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done (Lev.4:2)

2.We were transgressors (Heb.9:15)

If a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing,… do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity. (Lev.5:2)

Touch any unclean thing,.. be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.(v.3)

Touch the uncleanness of man,.. when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty. (v.4; 5)

A soul swear,..when he knoweth of it, then he shall guilty (v.5)



• Leviticus 5: 5 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:

(not sweet smelling unto the Lord)

BRING TO OFFER• A female from flock or a lamb (v. 6)

• Two turtle doves or two pigeons (v.7)

• Tenth part of an Ephah of fine flour (v.11)

(The mercy of God- He wants to forgive but the transgressor must bring according to his ability, but never without any thing offered- v.6; 7; 11)



Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. (Ps.51:5)

He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastise-ment of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.(Is.53: 5)

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin (Is.53:10)

Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (Gal.1: 4-5)


LEVITICAL SACRIFICES(Rules of Sin offerings)

• Lev.6: 30 And no sin offering, whereof any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt in the fire.

• Was burnt outside the camp-(Lev.4: 12; Heb.13: 11) (Of Priest or Congregation- Lev.4: 11;12; 20)

• All fat burned on the alter (4: 10;19; 35)

• But Meat of other sin offering food for the priest (Lev.6: 26-29- males only)

Adding one fifth to the cost and returns in addition to the offering makes difference with Sin offering (Because of Calvary God became worthy for added glory)


LEVITCAL SACRIFICES(Trespass offering)

• Ephesians 2: 1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

• Psalms 65: 3 Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

• Colossians 2: 13-14 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him,

• Having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;


LEVITICAL SACRIFICES(Sin and Trespass offering)

For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for

sin, are burned without the camp.

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood,

suffered without the gate.(Heb.13: 10-12)

Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
