IntroductionOne of the most famous self-improvement

books ever written is Think and Grow Richby Napoleon Hill. In fact, it is often calledthe book that makes millionaires. So it is

tting that, as you stand on the thresholdof achieving Executive status in your Trvo

journey to empowered success, this book is animportant part of your training.

The idea behind Hills masterpiece camefrom a series of biographies that he wrote for

Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie had requestedthat Hill interview the most successful peoplefrom all around the globe in an attemptto determine if these people shared anycommon habits or characteristics. What Hilldiscovered is that each of these successfulbusiness moguls did indeed share many ofthe same habits.

From these habits, Hill assembled the 13steps to riches which eventually became thebasis of Think and Grow Rich.

This book is a powerful tool for focusing your

mind and achieving your goals. And whilethis Study Guide provides an overview ofthe powerful principles contained in Hillstimeless bestseller, it does not replacereading the actual book in its entirety. Sowhy not get a head start on your success byobtaining your own copy?

The most important information from eachrelevant chapter of Hills book is presented inthis Study Guide as clearly as possible andeach section is followed by a brief review. In this manner, you can unlock the keyelements of the book and immediately beginto put them to work in your life.

The underlying foundation of this ExecutiveModule Three Power Start Training is this:Thoughts are things powerful things. Everyachievement, including every fortune everbuilt, has its beginnings in a thought an

idea. When an idea is married with purpose, persistence and passion - that is when theidea becomes reality; when it results in real-world effects.

Chapter One: DesireTHE STARTING POINT OF ALLACHIEVEMENT

A great warrior faced a situation which madeit necessary for him to make decisions whichensured his success on the battle eld. He wasabout to send his armies against a powerfulenemy, one whose men vastly outnumbered

his own. He loaded his soldiers into boats, sailed into the enemys country, unloadedsoldiers and equipment, and then gave theorder to burn the ships that had carried themto shore.

Addressing his men before the rstmomentous battle, this leader said Yousee the boats a ame. We cannot leave theseshores alive unless we win. We now have nochoice. We win, or we perish.

They won.Every great leader, from the dawn ofcivilization to the present day, was adreamer. If you do not see great riches inyour imagination, you will never see them inyour bank account. Tolerance and an openmind are practical necessities for todaysdreamer. Those who are afraid of new ideasare doomed before they ever start.

Remember, if the thing you wish to

accomplish is right and you believe in it,do not hesitate and do not give yourself anout. De ne your desires, develop a plan, and burn your ships. You see, when desirefocuses great forces toward your victory, youdo not need a way to retreat because victoryis certain.

There are no limitations except those weplace upon ourselves. Both poverty and richesare the direct results of our thoughts.

Every person who wins in any undertaking mustbe willing to cut all sources of retreat. Only bydoing so can one be sure of maintaining that stateof mind known as a burning desire to win which

    is essential to success.

The world is lled with an abundance ofopportunity for the dreamer. But there is adifference between wishing for a thing andbeing ready to receive it. No one is ready for athing until he believes he can acquire it. Thestate of mind must be belief, not mere hopeor wish.

Open-mindedness is essential for belief.Closed minds do not inspire faith, courage,

or belief. Aiming high in life, demandingabundance and prosperity, does not requireany more effort than is required to acceptmisery and poverty. So which will youchoose?

6 STEPS TO TURN DESIRES INTOREALITY

    1. Fix in your mind exactly what youdesire. If it is wealth, how much? It isnot suf cient to merely say I want alot of money. Be de nite.

    2. Determine exactly what you intendto give in return for the wealth youdesire.

    3. Establish a de nite date when you in -tend to possess the wealth you desire.

    4. Create a de nite plan to achieve yourdesire and begin at once, whether youare ready or not, to put this plan in toaction.

    5. Write out a clear, concise statementof the wealth you intend to acquire.Specify the time limit for its acquisi-tion, state what you intend to give inreturn for this wealth, and describeclearly the plan through which youintend to accumulate it.

    6. Read your written statement aloudtwice daily. As you read, see, feel andbelieve yourself already in possessionof the wealth you desire.

My Desire To Achieve Wealth Program

SAY THESE AFFIRMATIONS ALOUDTWICE DAILY, EVERY DAY.

The exact amount of wealth I desire is_____________ dollars per __________.

In return, I will give / do ______________________________________________.

I will receive this wealth by _______________________________. (specify thedate)

Chapter Two: FaithVISUALIZATION OF, AND BELIEF IN,

    ATTAINMENT OF YOUR DESIRE

Faith does not just refer to the belief in ahigher power. It can also be the belief thatthe future holds better things for you; inother words, a strong, positive, and con dentoutlook.

Faith is also a state of mind which canbe created by af rmation or repeatedinstructions to your subconscious mind. Thisis known as the principle of auto-suggestion.

This is why repeating your af rmations twiceevery day is so important.

You can actually convince your subconsciousmind that you believe you will receive thatwhich you ask, and it will act upon thatbelief, which your subconscious mind passesback to you in the form of faith, followed byde nite plans for obtaining that which youdesire.

Directed faith makes every thought crackle

with power. How? All thoughts whichhave been given emotion and then mixedwith faith begin immediately to translatethemselves into their physical equivalent orcounterpart.

It is important, therefore, to remember thatthe subconscious mind will translate into itsphysical equivalent negative or destructivethought impulses just as readily as it willact upon thought impulses of a positiveor constructive nature. This accounts for

the strange phenomenon which countlessmillions of people simply call misfortune orbad luck.

You may bene t by passing on to yoursubconscious mind any desire which you wishtranslated into its physical, or monetary, equivalent in a state of expectancy or beliefthat the transmutation will actually takeplace.

Important Note: THE DEFINITION OF TRANSMUTE IS TO CHANGE

OR ALTER IN FORM, APPEARANCE, OR NATURE

AND ESPECIALLY TO A HIGHER FORM.

In other words, your belief or faith isthe element which determines the actionof your subconscious mind. There isnothing to hinder you from deceivingyour subconscious mind when giving itinstructions through auto-suggestion.

To make this deceit more realistic, conductyourself as you would if you were alreadyin possession of the material thing whichyou are demanding. You may be surprisedto discover that your mind will actuallybegin to take on the nature of the in uenceswhich dominate it. This effect makes it evenmore essential for you to encourage positiveemotions as dominating forces of yourmind. Similarly, you must discourage andeliminate negative emotions.

You are probably familiar with the saying,If you say something long enough and oftenenough, you will eventually believe it. Thisis actually quite true. Even if the statementis false, if you repeat it over and over, youwill begin to accept the lie as truth. You willbelieve it to be the truth.

Each of us is what we are because of thedominating thoughts that we permit tooccupy our mind. Thoughts you deliberatelyplace in your own mind constitute themotivational forces which direct and controlyour every movement, act and deed. You arewhat you are because of what you think andbelieve. Resolve to throw aside the in uencesof negative energy and build the life that youdesire.

Remember, the subconscious mind makesno distinction between constructive anddestructive thought impulses. It workswith the material we feed it through ourthought impulses. The subconscious mind

EXECUTIVE MODULE THREE TRAINING pg. 6

will translate into reality a thought drivenby fear just as readily as it will translate intoreality a thought driven by courage or faith.

Auto-suggestion will lead you to peace andprosperity or misery and failure.

If you ll your mind with fear, doubt andunbelief in your ability to connect with anduse the forces of in nite intelligence, thelaw of auto-suggestion will take this spiritof unbelief and use it as a pattern by whichyour subconscious mind will translate it intoits physical equivalent.

Our minds become magnetized with thedominating thoughts we hold in our mindsand these magnets attract to us the forces, the

people, and the circumstances of life whichharmonize with the nature of our dominatingthoughts. ~ Napoleon Hill

    Self-Con dence Af rmations

REPEAT THESE DAILY TO BUILDPOSITIVE SUBCONSCIOUS AUTO-SUGGESTION

    1. I know that I have the ability toachieve the object of my de nitepurpose in life. Therefore, I demand ofmyself the persistent and consistentactions toward its attainment, and Ihere and now promise to render suchaction.

    2. I realize the dominating thoughts ofmy mind will eventually reproducethemselves in outward, physical ac-

tion, and gradually transform them-selves into physical reality. Therefore,I will concentrate my thoughts for30 minutes each day on the task ofthinking about the person I intend tobecome, thereby creating in my minda clear mental picture of that person.

    3. I know that through the principleof auto-suggestion, any desire thatI persistently hold in my mind willeventually seek expression throughsome means of attaining the objectdriving that desire. Therefore, I willdevote 10 minutes daily to demand-ing of myself the development ofself-con dence.

    4. I have clearly written down a descrip-tion of my de nite primary goal inlife, and I will never stop trying untilI have developed suf cient self-con -dence to bring about the attainmentof that goal.

    5. I realize that no wealth or positioncan endure for long unless it is builtupon truth and justice. Therefore, Iwill engage in no transaction whichdoes not bene t all whom it affects.I will succeed by attracting to myselfthe forces I wish to use and the coop-eration of other people.

    6. I know that a negative attitudetoward others can never bring mesuccess. Therefore, I will eliminatehatred, envy, jealousy, sel shness, and cynicism by developing a love forall humanity.

    7. I will cause others to believe in mebecause I will believe in them andmyself.

Do not wait; the time will never be justright. Start where you stand and work

with whatever tools you may have at yourcommand, knowing that better tools will be found on your journey to greatness.

Chapter Three: AutoSuggestionIMPRINTING YOUR DESIRES INTO YOURSUBCONSCIOUS MIND

While the idea of auto-suggestion maysound odd or even something along the linesof hocus pocus, it is important that you keepan open mind to this proven concept.

Basically, the idea behind auto-suggestionis that if you keep repeating your plan forsuccess to yourself, it has a greatly increasedchance of actually coming true. How?Embedding a thought deeply within yourself and repetition does the trick increasesthe chance that the thought will come up atthe right time when you need it. Think ofit as cramming for a college exam; intensestudying with the hope that the right answerwill come up when you need it.

You see, there are no limitations to the mindexcept those we acknowledge. Both povertyand riches are the offspring of thought.

Auto-suggestion is a term that applies to allsuggestions and self-administered stimulithat reaches ones mind through the vesenses (sight, touch, smell, hearing, andtaste). It is the conduit of communicationbetween that part of the mind whereconscious thought takes place and thatwhich serves as the seat of action for thesubconscious mind.

Through the dominating thoughts whichyou permit to remain in your conscious mind

positive or negative auto-suggestions voluntarily reach your subconscious mindand in uence it with these thoughts. Nothought, whether positive or negative, canenter your subconscious mind without the aidof auto-suggestion. The conscious mind actsas a lter to the subconscious mind, so youhave absolute control over the material whichreaches your subconscious mind.

The ability to reach and control yoursubconscious mind does have its price, however, and that price is persistence. Youhave to decide if the outcome is worth theeffort. When failure is experienced, makeanother effort, and still another until yousucceed.

The subconscious mind takes any ordersgiven to it in a spirit of absolute faithand acts upon those orders, although theorders have to be presented over and overagain through repetition before they areinterpreted by the subconscious mind.

Consider the possibility of playing a perfectlylegitimate trick on your subconscious mindby making it believe because you believeit that you must have the amount of moneyyou are visualizing. Make your subconsciousmind believe that this money is alreadywaiting for you and that it must deliver toyou practical plans to acquire the moneythat is yours. Send that thought to yourimagination and see what your imaginationcan, or will, do to create practical plansfor the accumulation of money through

transmutation of your desire.Remember, transmutation means to changeor alter in form, appearance or nature, andespecially to a higher form.

Begin to see yourself in possession of themoney as you expect (and even demand) thatyour subconscious hand over the plan neededto obtain that wealth. Be on the alert forthose plans and when they appear, put theminto action immediately.

These plans oftentimes will ash into yourmind through inspiration (also known asthe sixth sense). Treat that inspirationwith respect and put the inspired plansinto action immediately. Do not trustyour sense of reason when creating yourplan for accumulating money through thetransmutation of desire. Why? Your reason isfaulty.

  • 8/12/2019 Executive Training Module 3

    9/36

    STUDY GUIDEpg. 9

Moreover, your reasoning faculty may be lazyand, if you depend on it to serve you, it may

    very well disappoint you.

When visualizing the wealth you intendto accumulate, see yourself rendering theservice or delivering the merchandise youintend to give in return for this wealth. Bespeci c in your visualization.

For example, visualize the wealth that youwill gain through your Trvo business, andthen see yourself doing speci c business-building activities that will create thatwealth.

Whatever the mind of man can conceive andbelieve, it can also achieve.

Chapter Four:SpecializedKnowledgeKNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOU INTEND TOOFFER IN RETURN FOR THE WEALTHYOU DESIRE

There are two kinds of knowledge: generaland specialized. General knowledge is oflittle use in accumulating wealth. Knowledgewill not attract money unless it is organizedand intelligently directed through practicalplans of action toward the de nite resultof accumulation of wealth. Knowledge, therefore, is potential power. It becomespower when it is organized into de nite plansof action and directed toward a de nite end.

Before you can turn desire into wealth, however, you will require specializedknowledge of the service, product, orprofession which you intend to offer for thatfortune. You may need more specializedknowledge than you can personally acquire.

In that case, you need a mastermind group. A mastermind group is a group of experts(authorities) on subjects of which you are notan authority.

In the case of Trvo, this mastermind groupwould include mentors such as your teamleaders, top eld leaders and, of course, ourCEO and founder Mark A. Stevens. Thesepeople all possess in-depth specializedknowledge regarding the activities, approaches, and strategies that will help you

constantly expand your Trvo business. The accumulation of wealth calls forpower, and power is acquired throughhighly organized and intelligently directedspecialized knowledge. But that knowledgedoes not have to be possessed by the personwho acquires the wealth.

Napoleon Hill had never heard of theInternet, but he would have loved it. Mr.Hill was quoted as saying, Specializedknowledge is among the most plentiful, yetcheapest, forms of service which may be had.It was true when he uttered this wisdom andit is even more true now. It pays to know howto acquire knowledge.

HERE ARE A FEW WAYS THROUGHWHICH YOU CAN GAIN SPECIALIZEDKNOWLEDGE:

    Your own experience

    Experience from your mastermind

group Internet this is your virtual

    mastermind group

    Libraries

    Professional success coaches (experts)

Training such as the myriad oftraining offered through Trvo

    Success Training Calls

    Power Start Training Calls

    Q&A open mic Calls

Power Start TrainingModules (to qualify for speci cRecognition Program levels)

As knowledge is acquired, it must beorganized and put into use for a de nitepurpose through practical plans. Remember, knowledge has no value except that whichcan be gained from its application towardsome worthy end. Gaining wealth is a worthyend.

Combine your specialized knowledge withyour imagination to create ideas - ideas thatmake money.

There is no xed price for sound ideas. Thereis no limit to the amount of wealth a goodidea can bring. Behind the idea is alwaysspecialized knowledge. This knowledgeis easy to acquire. What is rare, however,is good ideas. Because of this, there is auniversal and ever-increasing demand forideas in the form of organized plans to createwealth.

Action is the real measure of intelligence.

Chapter Five:ImaginationTAP INTO YOUR CREATIVEIMAGINATION TO TRANSFORM A VAGUEIDEA INTO SOMETHING CONCRETE ANDAMAZINGLY PROFITABLE.

For many people, tapping into theirimagination is a key stumbling block ontheir path to success. They see the goal, theysee where they are now, but they lack theimagination to construct the path betweenhere and there.

You see, imagination is the workshop whereplans are created. Your desire is given shape, form, and action through the process ofimagination. You can create or do anythingyou can imagine.

There are two types of imagination: syntheticand creative. Synthetic imagination isarranging existing concepts, ideas, or plansinto new combinations. It does not createanything. It merely works with existing

material in a new way.Creative imagination, on the other hand,is your source of new ideas. This type ofimagination is often referred to as hunchesor inspiration. Ask yourself questions suchas What if? Why not? or What wouldhappen if?

Both kinds of imagination synthetic andcreative become stronger with use.

Your imaginative faculty may have becomeweak through inactivity. It cannot die, butyour imagination can be lulled to sleep. It canalso, however, be revived and made alert andactive through use.

Remember, desire is only a thought. It isabstract and of no value until it has beentransformed into action. This transformation

of desire into reality calls for the use of aplan, and such a plan must be formed with

the aid of your imagination particularlyyour synthetic imagination. Scientists haveshown that everything is either matter orenergy. Money is energy. Ideas are energy.Energy attracts like energy.

Imagination is the workshop of yourmind, capable of turning mind energy into

    accomplishment and wealth.

Chapter Six:Organized Planning HAVE A CLEAR AND CONCISE PLAN TOOBTAIN YOUR DESIRES.

Everything you create or acquire begins inthe form of desire. You see, desire is the rstpart of the journey from the abstract to theactual. It is in the workshop of imaginationthat plans for achieving that which you desireare created and organized.

    HOW TO BUILD A PLAN:

First, understand that no one canaccumulate great wealth withoutother people.

Surround yourself with a team ofsupport people who have knowledgeof how to go down the path you wantto go, and who also care about helpingyou. This can be comprised of yourteam leaders, other members of yourTrvo organization, or mentors whoseopinions you value. These people will

become your mastermind group. Before forming your group, however,

think about any advantages andbene ts you offer the other membersof this group. In other words, whatdo you bring to the table? Remember, surrounding yourself with amastermind group needs to be a giveand take proposition in order tothrive and be effective.

Meet with members of yourmastermind group regularly (once ortwice every week in order to optimizeyour opportunity for success).

Strive to maintain harmony withinyour group. Unresolved dissention isnot a characteristic of leadership nordoes it nurture the ow of creative

planning. It is essential that allmembers of your group are workingtoward the same goal.

Remember, you are engaged in anundertaking of major importance to you.To be sure of success, you must have planswhich are faultless. That involves takingadvantage of the experience, education, native ability, and imagination of otherminds. No single person has that completepackage to the point that they can ensurethe accumulation of the wealth that theydesire without the cooperation of otherpeople. Every plan you adopt in your

endeavor to accumulate wealth should bethe joint creation of yourself and every othermember of your mastermind group.

If the rst plan that you adopt does not worksuccessfully, replace it with a new plan. Ifthis new plan fails to work, replace it as welluntil you nd a plan that does work. Thisis the point where most people meet withfailure. They simply do not consistently andpersistently create new plans to take theplace of those which fail.

This is actually the de ning differencebetween those who persist until successfuland those who would like to be a success if itis not too much trouble.

Before success comes in anyones life, he issure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeatovertakes a person, the easiest and mostlogical thing to do is to quit. That is exactlywhat the majority of people do. More than

ve hundred of the most successful peoplethis country has ever known found that theirgreatest successes came just one step beyondthe point at which defeat had overtakenthem.

It is important to understand that even themost intelligent person alive cannot succeedin accumulating wealth without plans

  • 8/12/2019 Executive Training Module 3

    17/36

    STUDY GUIDEpg. 17

that are practical and workable. Of course, not every plan works. When a plan fails, remember that the temporary defeat is not apermanent failure. Temporary defeat simplymeans that something is wrong with thatplan and another should be developed. Thereis no value in persistently pursuing a planthat does not work. Instead, if something isnot working, change it.

Your achievement can be no greater thanyour plans are sound. You cannot expect toaccumulate a fortune or achieve any otherworthwhile goal for that matter withoutexperiencing temporary defeat. But insteadof giving up, simply acknowledge that thefailed plan was not sound and then get busybuilding a new plan and trying again.

First comes thought; then organization of thatthought into ideas and plans; then transformationof those plans into reality. All great plans begin in

    the imagination.

Chapter Seven:DecisionWHEN IT COMES TIME TO MAKEDECISIONS, LEADERS DO NOTPROCRASTINATE.

Do not defer to others or delay decisions. This is perhaps the biggest part of becominga leader and a person that people will dependupon and follow. Of course, it is perfectly

ne to gather information but when the timecomes, be decisive. Come up with a rmdecision and stick with it.

Procrastination the lack of a de nitedecision is a common enemy that everysuccessful person must conquer. People whoare successful have the habit of reachingdecisions promptly and changing thosedecisions slowly, if ever.

The majority of people who fail to accumulatethe level of wealth they desire are generallyeasily in uenced by the opinions of others. Ifyou have this tendency, you will soon have nodesires of your own.

Instead, keep your own counsel andchoose very carefully those leaders andentrepreneurs of whom you seek advice.

Those who talk too much generally do littleelse. Genuine wisdom usually becomesconspicuous through modesty and silence. Aguiding principle should be to tell the worldwhat you intend to do by going about thebusiness of actually doing it.

As we have discussed in earlier chapters, thoughts backed by strong desire havea tendency to transmute themselves intotheir physical equivalent. Those who knowwhat they want reach decisions rmly andde nitely, and most frequently get whatthey want. You see, the world has a habit ofmaking room for the person whose words andactions show that they know where they aregoing.

De niteness of decision always requirescourage. For example, any person making adecision to build a hugely successful Trvobusiness stakes their economic freedom uponthat decision. Financial independence is notwithin the reach of a person who refuses toplan for and then demand such freedom.

    ATTRIBUTES OF A DECISIVE LEADER:

    1. Courage and con dence.

    2. Self-control.

    3. A keen sense of justice.

    4. De niteness of decision If youwaiver in your resolve, you send themessage that you are not sure ofyourself.

    5. De niteness of plans Successfulleaders must plan their work andwork their plan. A leader who movesby guesswork without practical,de nite plans is comparable to a shipwithout a rudder.

    6. The habit of doing more than is

expected of them Successful leaderswork harder than followers.

    7. An approachable, warm personality If you are to successfully lead others, they must feel that you have theirbest interests at heart and that youare truly interested in their concernsor ideas.

    8. Sympathy and understanding.

    9. Mastery of detail If having an eye

for the ne print and every detail isnot in your nature, fear not. This is anattribute that can be learned.

    10. Willingness to assume fullresponsibility Successful leadersmust assume responsibility for themistakes and shortcomings of theirteam members. If a leader tries toshift this responsibility, he or she will

not remain a trusted and respectedleader very long. For this reason, itis essential that you choose and trainyour team members carefully.

    11. Cooperation Leadership calls forpower, and power calls for coopera-tion. There are two kinds of leadership leadership by consent and leader-ship by force. Only one of these works.

The way to develop decisiveness is to start rightwhere you are, with the very next question you face.

Chapter Eight:PersistenceYOU MUST PERSIST CONSISTENTLYAND WITHOUT EXCEPTION .

Persistence is essential in transmuting desireinto its monetary equivalent. Willpower anddesire, when properly combined, make anirresistible, unbeatable pair. Persistencemeans that you know you are following theright path for your life and your goals, andthat you will not allow a few missteps orstumbles along the way to keep you from

    achieving your goals.

Many people, unfortunately, are ready tothrow their desires and goals overboardat the rst sign of opposition or the rsttime they fail. Few have the persistentand consistent determination to carry ondespite all opposition until they attain theirgoals. And without this persistence, you aredefeated before you even begin.

The ease with which a lack of persistence

may be conquered will depend entirely uponthe intensity of your desire. Remember, thestarting point of all achievement is desire.Weak desires bring weak results.

Fortune gravitates to people whose mindshave been prepared to attract it. Povertyis attracted to people whose minds arefavorable to it, as money is attracted to thosewhose minds have been deliberately preparedto attract it. The same principle of attractionapplies to both wealth and poverty. So which

do you choose to attract? Your choice willrequire both persistence and a strong desire.

It is interesting to note that those withpersistence know that every failure carrieswith it the seed of an equivalent advantage. No matter how many times they fail on the

journey to empowered success, they knowtheir eventual arrival at the top of the ladder

will occur. They accept defeat as nothingmore than a temporary bump in the road toachieving their desires.

There is an exciting and irresistible powerabout someone who ghts on in the face ofdiscouragement. Persistence, however, issimply a state of mind that you can and mustcultivate.

The opposite of persistence is the fear ofcriticism. The majority of people permit theirfamily, friends, co-workers and even thepublic at large to in uence them to the pointthey cannot live their own lives for fear ofcriticism. They may refuse to take a chanceon becoming a wealthy entrepreneur bybuilding their own global Trvo business forfear of the criticism that will follow at eachand every bump in the road. In those cases, the fear of criticism is stronger than thedesire for success.

The application of persistence makes thebreaks you need to become a success.

    PERSISTENCE IS BASED UPONDEFINITE CAUSES:

De niteness of purpose Knowingwhat you want is the rst, andprobably the most important, step.

    Desire.

    Self-reliance.

    De niteness of plans.

    Accurate knowledge.

    Cooperation. Willpower.

    Habit.

FOUR STEPS THAT LEAD TO THE HABITOF PERSISTENCE:

    1. A de nite purpose backed by a burning

desire for its ful llment.2. A de nite plan, expressed in continuous

    action.

    3. A mind closed tightly against allnegative and discouraging in uences.

    4. A friendly alliance with one or morepeople who will encourage you tofollow through with both plan andpurpose. It is important to rememberthat if your plan does not work, changeit. Persistence, in this case, meanspersistence toward achieving your goal.

Mastering these four steps gives you theability to make life yield whatever priceyou ask. A study of the achievements ofnumerous successful people shows thatpersistence, concentration of effort, andde niteness of purpose are the major sourcesof achievement.

Most great people have attained their greatestsuccess just one step beyond their greatest failure.

Chapter Nine: TheSubconscious MindLEARN TO CONTROL YOURSUBCONSCIOUS MIND THROUGHAUTO-SUGGESTION AND POSITIVETHINKING.

The subconscious mind consists of a eldof consciousness in which every thoughtimpulse that reaches the objective mindthrough any of the ve senses is classi edand recorded. From this amazingly vastcollection, thoughts can then be recalled orwithdrawn almost as one stores, recalls, orwithdraws documents from a ling cabinet.

The subconscious ling process is completelyautomatic. You only have control over thethought under consideration. Everythingelse happens completely automatically. Youcannot completely control your subconsciousbut you can voluntarily hand over to it anyplan, desire or purpose which you desireto have transformed into concrete form. This process is accomplished through auto-

suggestion. Your subconscious mind receives and lessense impressions or thoughts, regardless oftheir nature. Through auto-suggestion, youmay voluntarily plant in your subconsciousmind any plan, thought, or purpose thatyou desire to translate into its physical ormonetary equivalent. The subconscious acts

rst on these dominating desires which havebeen mixed with intense feelings or emotions. In reality, only thoughts mixed with emotions

whether positive or negative have anactive in uence on the subconscious.

The subconscious mind never remains idle.It works day and night. Even if you do notprovide input, your subconscious mind willmake up its own ideas to act upon. In otherwords, your subconscious mind functionsinvoluntarily, whether you make any effort toin uence it or not. This, naturally, suggests

that thoughts of fear, failure and poverty orany other negative thought serve as stimulito your subconscious mind unless you masterthese impulses and give your subconsciousmore desirable input.

There are speci c major positive emotionsand, conversely, speci c major negativeemotions. The negatives involuntarily injectthemselves into your thoughts. The positives,on the other hand, must be purposely placedthere through auto-suggestion. The moreintense the emotions, the more rapidly thetransformation from thought impulse intoreality will occur.

    THE MAJOR POSITIVE EMOTIONS:

    Desire

    Faith

    Love

    Enthusiasm

    Romance

    Hope

    THE MAJOR NEGATIVE EMOTIONS:

    Fear

    Jealousy

    Hatred

    Revenge

    Greed

    Anger

Positive and negative emotions cannotoccupy the mind simultaneously. One orthe other must dominate. If you habituallychoose the positive, there will be no room forthe negative. Therefore, it is essential thatyou form the habit of applying and using thepositive emotions listed above.

You have probably heard the saying Whatgoes in, also comes out. This refers to theemotions and thought impulses that you feedyour mind. Case in point, there is research tosupport the view that you should be careful inchoosing television shows, movies, and music.Remember, the mind can only use what youfeed it.

Thoughts which go out from your mind imbedthemselves deeply in your subconscious mind, where they serve as a magnet, pattern, orblueprint by which your subconscious mind isin uenced while translating them into theirphysical equivalent.

Everything man has created or ever willcreate begins in the form of a thoughtimpulse. Man cannot create anything thathas not rst been conceived in thought.Through the imagination, thoughts areassembled into plans that lead to success. The possibilities of creative effort connectedwith the subconscious mind are bothstupendous and impossible to estimate.

    The OptimistsCreedPROMISE YOURSELF

To be so strong that nothing candisturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness, andprosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends and teammembers feel that they were createdfor greatness.

To look at the sunny side ofeverything and make your optimismbecome reality.

To think only of the best, to work onlywith the best, and expect only thebest.

To be just as sincerely enthusiasticabout the success of other leaders andteam members as you are about yourown.

To forget the mistakes of the past andpress on to the greater achievementsof the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at alltimes and give every person you meeta smile.

To give so much time to theimprovement of yourself that youhave no time to criticize others.

To be too busy for worry, too noblefor anger, too strong for fear, andtoo happy to permit the presence oftrouble.

To think well of yourself and toproclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but in greataccomplishments.

To live in the faith that the wholeworld is on your side as long as you

are true to the best that is in you.

Form the habit of applying and usingthe positive emotions! Eventually, they willdominate your mind so completely, that the

    negatives cannot enter it.

Chapter Ten:Outwitting TheGhosts of FearTAKE INVENTORY OF YOURSELF ANDFIND OUT HOW MANY GHOSTS ARESTANDING IN YOUR WAY.

The master key that unlocks the door to lifesbountiful riches is the privilege of creating inyour own mind a burning desire to achieve. The satisfaction that comes to those whoconquer self and force life to pay whateverthey demand is both overwhelming andunlimited.

Before you can put any portion of this StudyGuide into successful use, your mind mustbe prepared to receive it. The preparation isnot dif cult. It begins with study, analysis, and understanding of three enemies whichyou shall have to clear out. These areINDECISION, DOUBT, and FEAR. Themembers of this success-destroying trio areclosely related; where one is found, the other

two are close at hand.Succumbing to these ghosts can keep youfrom becoming successful or accomplishingyour goals.

The purpose of this chapter is to shine aspotlight of attention upon the cause and thecure of three basic fears. Remember, beforeyou can master an enemy, you must knowits name, its habits, and where it resides.

As you read, analyze yourself carefully anddetermine which, if any, of these commonfears have attached themselves to you.

Do not be deceived by the habits of thesesubtle enemies. Sometimes they remainhidden in the subconscious mind, where theyare dif cult to locate and even more dif cultto eliminate.

Keep in mind that random thoughts pickedup by chance have just as much in uence asthose created by desire and intent. Therefore, you have the ability to control your thoughts and your fears. Since fear is nothing buta state of mind, you can control it. This, inturn, leads to control of physical situations, including the achievement of success andaccumulation of wealth.

For example, have you ever wondered whysome people appear to be lucky whileothers of equal or greater ability, training, experience, and brain capacity, seemdestined to ride with misfortune? This maybe explained by the statement that everyhuman being has the ability to completelycontrol their own mind. With this control, every person can control whether theirmind is opened to the thoughts of others particularly those that are negative anddiscouraging - or close the doors tightly andadmit only positive thought impulses of theirown choice.

So, now that you know that you have theability to control your thoughts to create the

life of your own choosing, lets discuss threebasic fears that everyone suffers from atsome point in their life.

The Fear of Poverty. This is a stateof mind that can destroy your chancesof achievement. Left unchecked, thisfear paralyzes reasoning, destroysimagination, kills self-reliance,undermines enthusiasm, discouragesincentive, leads to uncertainty, and encourages procrastination.Symptoms include indifference, indecision, doubt, worry, andprocrastination.

You can conquer the fear of povertyby reaching a mental decision to getalong with whatever level of wealthyou can accumulate without excessiveworries.

The Fear of Criticism. The fearof criticism robs people of initiative, destroys the power of imagination, limits individuality, and takesaway self-reliance. Criticism plantsfear and resentment in the humanheart, rather than love or affection.Symptoms of the fear of criticisminclude self-consciousness, a lackof poise, wishy-washy personalitytraits, an inferiority complex, extravagance, lack of initiative, and alack of ambition.

Overcome the fear of criticism byreaching a decision not to worry about

what anyone else says, does, or thinksabout you. Become immune to theworries or destructive thoughts ofothers.

The Fear of Ill Health. Most peoplefear ill health because of the terriblepicture they may have planted in theirminds of death and its consequences. The fear of disease, even when thereis not the slightest cause for fear, can actually produce the physical

symptoms of the disease feared most.Speci c symptoms of the fear of illhealth can include negative use ofauto-suggestion, hypochondria, lackof exercise, susceptibility to ill health, and self-indulgence.

Leave the fear of ill health behind bymaking a conscious decision to castthose fears and imagined symptomsaside. Ensure that your body isreceiving the nutrients it needs tofunction at its very best by includingtwo to three ounces of Trvo in yourdaily routine. Be sure to also getout and get your body moving; youwill be surprised by the number ofpeople you will encounter who willbe deeply interested in your healthy,

    Against NegativeIn uences!

As you have learned throughout this StudyGuide, controlling the thoughts that youallow to enter and remain in both yourconscious and subconscious mind is vital inyour quest for success and wealth. Whilepositive thoughts can propel you towardunlimited prosperity and success, negativethoughts can create impassable road blocksin your journey toward an empoweredlifestyle.

YOU CAN PROTECT YOURSELFAGAINST NEGATIVE INFLUENCESBY BUILDING A MENTAL WALLOF IMMUNITY. THIS CAN BEACCOMPLISHED BY:

    Recognizing that you are susceptible

to suggestions that harmonize withthe basic fears discussed above.

Being vigilant in recognizing peoplewho discourage you by trying to useany of the basic fears.

Deliberately seek the company ofpeople who in uence you to think andact for yourself.

Never expecting troubles, as theyhave a tendency not to disappoint.

Closing your mind to the negativein uences of other people. Do notgive their thoughts access to yoursubconscious mind.

Your business in life is to achieve success. Tobe successful, you must nd peace of mind, achieve self-con dence in your abilities and

potential to accumulate wealth and, mostof all, attain happiness. All of these facetsof success begin rst in the form of thoughtimpulses.

You alone have the power to decide what tothink about. This, in turn, gives you alonethe power to in uence, direct, and eventuallycontrol your own environment making yourlife exactly what you want it to be.

Alternatively, you can neglect to exerciseyour ability to control and direct youropportunities for success by casting your lifeupon the broad and often tumultuous - seaof circumstances.

People who accumulate great wealthalways protect themselves against thenegative in uences of people they happento encounter. The poverty-stricken never dothis.

You can effectively protect yourself throughwillpower and by establishing habits thatwill counteract the negative in uencesaround you.

See things as they really are. Control yourthoughts. Clear out the medicine chest ofyour mind. Deliberately seek the companyof people who will in uence you to think andact for yourself; people who encourage youto actively move toward the greatness forwhich you were created; people who believein you, support you, and who can see thepossibilities and viability of your dreams.

In the nal analysis, you either control yourmind or it will control you. If you keep busywith a de nite purpose, backed by a de niteplan, your mind will continually work tobring that plan into existence.

Chapter Twelve:Bump Up YourCharisma LevelCHARISMA IS NOT NECESSARILYINNATE; SOMETHING EITHER YOUWERE BORN WITH OR YOU WERE NOT.IT CAN BE LEARNED.

Long believed to be an innate, magicalquality, charisma has come under thescrutiny of research scientists who havefound that, far from being an innate, magicalquality, charisma is simply the result oflearned behaviors. In fact, in controlledlaboratory experiments, researchers wereable to raise and lower peoples levels ofcharisma as if they were turning a dial

just by asking them to adopt speci c(charismatic) behaviors.

Charismatic behaviors are usually learnedearly in life, as people try new behaviors, see the results and re ne them. Eventually, the behaviors become instinctive, withoutthe learner having ever been aware of theprocess. Some people, however, learn later.

Case in point - Steve Jobs, now consideredone of the most charismatic CEOs ofthe decade, came across as bashful andawkward in his earliest presentations. Jobspainstakingly worked to increase his levelof charisma over the years, and the gradualimprovement in his public appearances wasquite striking and amazingly effective.

CHARISMA IS A SPARKLE IN PEOPLETHAT MONEY CANT BUY.

ITS AN INVISIBLE ENERGY WITHVISIBLE EFFECTS.

    Learn The ComponentsOf Charisma

Learning to radiate charisma will make youmore in uential, more persuasive, and moreinspiring. People will like you, trust you, andwant to be led by you.

CHARISMATIC BEHAVIOR CAN BEBROKEN DOWN INTO THREE COREELEMENTS:

    Presence

    Power

    Warmth

When people describe their experienceof seeing a charismatic person in action, whether Bill Clinton or the Dalai Lama, theyoften mention the individuals extraordinarypresence. Presence turns out to be a corecomponent of charisma, the foundation uponwhich all else is built.

But if presence is the foundation on whichcharisma rests, power and warmth are theessential building blocks.

When we rst meet someone, we instinctivelyassess whether that person is a potentialfriend or foe, team member or customer, believer or non-believer. To answer the rstquestion, we try to assess how much heor she likes us. To answer the second andthird questions, we try to assess how muchcommon ground and goals we share, as wellas how much power that person has.

When you meet a charismatic person, hisor her presence gives the impression thatthey have a lot of power and they like you alot. Fight or ight? is the power question.Friend or foe? is the warmth question.

You need all three (presence, power, andwarmth) to be charismatic, but the degreeof each determines the kind of charisma youhave. For example:

High power, low presence, lowwarmth is authority charisma. ColinPowell has that.

  • 8/12/2019 Executive Training Module 3

    34/36

EXECUTIVE MODULE THREE TRAINING pg. 34

High presence, lower power, lowwarmth is called focus charisma.Bill Gates actually has charisma inthat respect.

A good example of someone who leadswith high warmth is the Dalai Lama.

What Is The Single BiggestInhibitor To Charisma?Low self-con dence, also known as self-doubt most de nitely ranks the highest as acharisma inhibitor.

In one of its manifestations, known as theimpostor syndrome, competent people feelthey do not really know what they are doing, and are just waiting for the other shoe todrop, for someone to expose them as a fraud.

This is a fairly common phenomenon, withmore than 70 percent of the populationexperiencing it at one time or another.Interestingly, impostor syndrome is worstamong high performers. Case in point, everyyear, the incoming class at Stanford Business

School is asked: How many of you in herefeel that you are the one mistake that theadmissions committee made? Every year,two-thirds of the class immediately raisetheir hands.

Low self-con dence hits at all levels ofbusiness, and you would be surprised at howhigh it goes.

    Charisma-Enhancing

TechniquesStare like a lover, stand like a gorilla, speaklike a preacher. What does this mean? Youwant to establish deep, but warm eye contact.

You want a stance that broadcasts power andcon dence. And you want to speak in a slow, con dent, resonant and warm voice.

A great preacher is the perfect metaphor for this:he cares about his people (warmth), he has thecon dence that the weight of God is with him(power), and he is fervently focused about hismission (presence).

HERE ARE THREE FAST TIPS TO IMMEDIATELYINCREASE YOUR CHARISMA LEVEL:

Increase eye contact. Not just the amountof eye contact, but also the right kind of eyecontact. Intensely focused, but cold, is not theright kind. Increase the warmth in your eyecontact.

Alpha gorilla body language. Take up more

space literally. Imagine yourself as a hugegorilla. Look bigger, in ate your chest. Andquit nodding. Too much nodding causes youto appear over-eager and over-anxious.

Pause two seconds before you speak. Ofcourse, you should not use this techniquewith every single sentence. But this tech-nique does give people the feeling that whatthey say is so important that you are absorb-ing and carefully considering what they have

    just said.

Being a leader gives you charisma. If you study theleaders who have succeeded, thats where charisma comes

from, from leading with power, presence and warmth.
