BRONSWERK on-board climate systems for offshore platforms feature innovative, high-performing and reliable technology. We offer efficient systems that are able to adjust to the rigorous sea and weather conditions. Whether the platform is located in the Gulf of Mexico or the North Sea, our systems ensure the crew’s comfort and safety while climatically controlling your equipment environment.

H i g H - p e R F O R m a n c e t e c H n O l O g y

BRONSWERK offshore HVAC-R systems maintain designated levels of temperature, air change rate, humidity, fresh air quality and pressure. They provide cooling for high internal heat-gain spaces, and are quiet and low-vibration. Our products are compact and designed for platform space optimization.

Your HVAC-R installation must perform in a challenging, remote sea location and be subject to severe climactic conditions, so high reliability is essential. Equipment exposed to extreme weather is con-structed of stainless steel, marine-grade aluminum or titanium to ensure longevity. High-efficiency louver filtration systems are installed to remove the salt, water and dirt particles that can be present in offshore environments. Also, since these locations are not typically readily accessible, a logistic and life-cycle support program is essential.

Safety is a critical concern to your crew. Installations are shock resistant and explosion protected. Our engineers address fire and explosion issues when designing for offshore installations – including prevention, control and mitigation. Your system must perform regardless of hazards, including loss of platform stability (arising from collision or uncontrolled f looding), loss of position or emergency ingress of fire, smoke and gas.

In addition to ingress prevention or accumulation of potential harmful gases, the offshore HVAC system may be called upon to support life and essential equipment operation during emergency situations (an internal pressure control system is considered for these situations). Inlets and outlets are protected by fire and gas dampers, and shut-off dampers are both automatically and remotely closeable.

HVAC fire dampers must close on demand so as not to compromise the quality of the atmosphere in the temporary refuge (TR) space. The dampers provide fire protection for the structure and HVAC inlet & outlet ducting, and also provide some sealing function to prevent excessive air outf low. Internal pres-surisation is necessary to prevent air leakage from doors, windows, drain systems and through the structures’ cladding. They must perform for the specified TR endurance time; normally up to 2 hours. Your HVAC-R custom designed products undergo extensive testing at our factory before being shipped to you for installation to ensure they meet the highest quality and safety standards. All systems offer extremely high reliability and are designed for quick recovery after a platform emergency.

1. Project Kick-OffIn this phase we plan your project and lay the foundations for successful implementation. We make and share the strategic decisions that are crucial to your project: • Define your system goals and objectives• Clarify the scope of the system• Define your project schedule, budget plan,

and execution sequence• Establish the project organization, including representa-

tives from your organization

2. System Preliminary DesignIn this phase we deliver the Single Line Diagrams and sup-porting Heat Load Calculations to ensure that the design will meet your specified needs. If platform and habitation vessel modifications are made during this stage, we modify the HVAC-R design accordingly.

3. System Detailed ExecutionWith your agreement on the preliminary design, in this phase the team prepares all the supporting detailed engineering work: • Equipment Diagrams • Special Equipment Designs• Complete Equipment Lists• Hot Water/Chilled Water Diagrams

• Detailed calculations to ensure that the system conforms to acceptable levels of pressure drops, noise, and vibration.

During this phase we also deliver the actual equipment and ducting that make up your system and, if desired, we install the HVAC-R system or oversee the installation. We also manu-facture any equipment that is required to meet your needs and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests in our premises to certify that the equipment meets the highest standards.

4. System Final PreparationIn this phase we deliver training, as well as conduct the required testing and commissioning. It is critical to train maintenance personnel to protect your investment. We offer instruction at our training facilities on both system and special equipment for operators, crew maintainers and shore maintainers. Sea Acceptance Testing and Commissioning is complete and rigorous.

5. Platform Launch & SupportIn this phase BRONSWERK supports you to ensure that your HVAC-R system is operating efficiently. Our warrantees ensure that you are well protected. We offer outstanding after-sales support on every continent through our global support network.

INNOVATION FOR THE FUTURE

BRONSWERK designs HVAC-R solutions for offshore platforms, habitation vessels, work boats and, when required, designs and manufactures special equipment.

We are industry specialists in Environmental Control Systems. Due to the severe con-ditions in which offshore platforms operate and their space limitations, ECS systems must be reliable and easy-to-use, operate and maintain. These predominantly all-air systems deliver a clean and safe environment for offshore platform personnel.

Local cooling is provided to spaces with high internal heat gain as well as to those spaces which are remote from the main distribution system. These units can be explosion-proof if necessary.

a l l - a i R S y S t e m S

For offshore platform installations, BRONSWERK engi-neers primarily all-air systems that provide complete sensible and latent cooling capacity. Heating can be accomplished with the same air stream, either in the central system or at a particular zone. A single air-handling unit can provide heating and cooling to multiple compartments. The outside air is mixed with the return air from the conditioned space. Individual adjustment of temperature can be done manually by opening / closing the supply air terminal boxes.

System Advantages (+)1. The central plant is located in unoccupied areas,

thereby facilitating operation and maintenance, control-ling noise and enabling choice of suitable equipment.

2. Gives a wide choice of zonability, f lexibility, and humidity control under all operating conditions.

3. Allows good design f lexibility for optimum air distribu-tion, draft control and local requirements.

4. Well suited to applications requiring unusual exhaust makeup.

5. Adapts to winter humidification.6. Improved air quality.7. Control of noise levels.

We custom design and manufacture water chillers that meet your specific requirements. These incorporate a water-cooled condenser that can include copper tubing and cast steel heads depending upon the requirements. The compressor is either open-hermetic or screw-type and the multi-circuit water cooled evaporators are plate or shell & tube. BRONSWERK chillers also include a custom-ized Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) which inter-faces with the ship’s control system.

Air Handling Units for offshore come encased by a double-skin enclosure that is insulated throughout. Noise is minimized with our custom-designed, low-profile Inte-gral Discharge Silencer. All fans, coils and controls meet marine-grade standards. The unit comes to you pre-wired, with piping connections extended to the exterior, and are ready for shipboard mounting.

Other specifications include:• Stainless steel 316L designed casing• Dual fans with inlet guide vanes and non-return

dampers for redundancy• Chilled water cooling coil in stainless steel casing• Steam heating coil with Cu-to-Cu fin tube in stainless

steel frame• Disposable filters and individual section cleanouts• High-pressure design• Integrated lifting beam for equipment servicing• Direct-injection steam humidification from dedicated

steam generator

Fireman’s Panels are configured for emergency opera-tions under Black Start conditions and allow for quick emergency connection for portable air supply. They are constructed with a stainless steel piping manifold and control valves, and include individual & group damper controls for the various fire zones. There are separated “normal” control and “emergency” control valves, and there is an optional damper position indication within the panel. A local test valve is also fitted, for routine inspec-tion and operational testing. Engraved valve label plates are clear and highly visible.

BRONSWERK offers hazardous and safe area-rated control packages that are customized to your requirements. Our high-performance dampers are pneumatically actuated and designed to close in under one second (1 sec.). They are individual section and matrix to maximize opening sizes, and made of either stainless steel or galvanized steel, based on individual client needs. BRONSWERK also offers additional features such as composite or stainless steel actuators, with fail-safe spring return and indi-vidual section open/closed proximity sensors or micro-switches if required.
