2. The overall objective of the iSchoolAfrica iPad Learning
Programme is to empower teachers and students by providing them
with iPads and advanced classroom practices where children would
otherwise suffer the educational challenges typically faced in
disadvantaged and under- resourced environments. iSchoolAfrica
works in partnership with programme sponsors from government and
the private sector to facilitate funding for devices and
facilitation. The iSchool Press Team Programme sets up iPad press
clubs in schools, giving young South Africans a voice on issues
that affect them. The programme focuses on empowering the youth
with tools to express themselves in a digital medium. iSchoolAfrica
facilitates the training for teachers to manage press activity in
schools. Each month, students produce video content for TV and
online media.
3. "Our programs are not designed to meet the expectations of
volunteers to do 'something new'. Our programs meet the needs of
the communities in which we work. Tourism can contribute to
development if locals benefit from the income generated by tourism
and the conservation of nature, tradition and culture having
priority over economic interests. This is possible if the tourism
infrastructure is integrated in regional economic processes and
involves local traders.
