THE Chippa United owner, Chippa Mpenge-si, has confirmed that he is involved in talkswith the Eastern Cape government aboutmoving the club to Port Elizabeth. The Chilli Boys won the National First

Division. A lot of that success had to do withtheir good record at the Philippi Stadium, but a change could now be on the cards.“For now I can confirm with you that

there are talks with Port Elizabeth,” Mpenge-si says.“I have sentiments about Cape Town; it’s

where I started everything with a biginvestment in the Philippi Stadium, but whathas been offered is playing with my emo-tions.“The proposal made to us is a permanent

move or no move. So that’s the decision wehave to make. As you know running a PSLteam requires money, and I’ve used mymoney most of the time. That’s why I haveto take a decision whether I have to keep onusing my money or maybe run it as abusiness that can make a profit.”The Eastern Cape has been bereft of a

professional soccer team since the days ofBush Bucks, with Bay United having a brief– and very unsuccessful – stint in thetop-flight before folding. – Kick-off.com

AFTER six years of campaigning in SouthAfrica’s elite Premier Soccer League, FreeState Stars are facing a truly terrifyingprospect, dropping down into the lowerranks of the National First Division.Their last-ditch effort will only be

regarded worthy if they survive automaticrelegation in Saturday’s league fixtureagainst equally relegation-bound MorokaSwallows at the Dobsonville Stadium. The two sides will meet in this intrigu-

ing fixture to wrap up the current Pre-miership season as with the rest of their 14other counterparts. This Saturday will also see the champi-

ons of the South African league being dulycrowned. As things stand Mamelodi Sundowns will

be handed the prestigious title unless theunthinkable happens with Kaizer Chiefswinning and Sundowns losing by a bigmargin to gutsy Maritzburg United.Despite Stars showing their spirit by

not going down without a fight when theyheld Chiefs to a one-all draw last week

Wednesday, their effort was not enough toguarantee their safety from being choppedor forced to compete in the play-offs toretain their PSL status.Ea Lla Koto are still clinging to the edge

of safety, forcing fellow relegation fightersLamontville Golden Arrows, Swallows andPolokwane City to peel off their fingers oneby one.Stars are hanging on to the hope that the

fighting spirit will give their squad a boostin Saturday’s all-important outing againstSwallows. While their destiny is in their own hands,

Mike Mokoena, the team’s managingdirector, also relies on Orlando Pirates andSuperSport United to beat Arrows and City. While hoping Pirates beat Arrows, the

reality is Stars must win or draw againstSwallows to be in the play-offs withNational First Division sides Black Leop-ards, Milano United and Baroka. The three teams in the NFD that will

compete in the play-offs with the one sidefrom the Premiership will be known onSunday after the NFD clubs complete theirterm.

THE African Warriors’ dream of takingpart in the National First Division (NFD)promotional play-offs went up in smokewhile the Maluti FET College FC remainsafe.Warriors went on to play against Thanda

Royal Zulu FC on Sunday with a slimchance to book a spot in the play-offs. Buta 2-1 lost to Thanda saw that dreamturning into a nightmare.Mathematically the Maihlome Ihlasele

could have finished in the top three. But that was only if they could have

won a game against Thanda and their lastleague game. Warriors are currentlysitting on position eight on the leaguetable with 41 points in 29 games. They will play their last league game

against Sivutsa Stars FC at the Phutha-ditjhaba Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.Meanwhile, the College boys have

secured their NFD status regardless oflosing by 2-1 to Jomo Cosmos on Sundayat the Charles Mopeli Stadium. Malutiscored first, but a lapse in concentrationsaw them giving away two goals to theopponents. However, the rookies will trytheir luck to finish in a better positionnext season. They are lying third from the bottom on

the log with 29 points in 29 games. They will wrap-up the season away to

Roses United FC at the Kaizer SbotheloStadium on Sunday. Kick-off is at 15:00.The results will mean nothing to both

sides besides honouring a fixture.United have already been relegated and

they should start preparing the team forthe Safa Second Division while Malutiwill finish on the same position even ifthey win a game by 10-0.
