E-Prime consists of a paraphrase in which we have endeavored to replace all “to be” verbs (is,

are, were, was, etc.) with concrete active verbs, eliminating the “is of identity” (instead of “John

is a teacher” we use “John teaches”), the “is of predication” (instead of “The apple is sweet” we

use “The apple tastes sweet”), as well as the passive voice and phantom subjects (instead of

“Blessed is the man” we use “God blesses the man”). By performing these linguistic procedures,

we have hoped to create a crisp, direct, and sparkling document.

Pronunciation Guide and Flashpoints for English Speakers

The International Phonetic Alphabet was launched in 1888 in England by Henry Sweet and

Elmer Wiggins, founders of the International Phonetic Association. The International Phonetic

Alphabet is an alphabetic system of notation based primarily on the Latin alphabet with

borrowings if the Latin alphabet does not contain the sound. The beauty of the IPA is that it is

100% phonetic, while the English alphabet (though derived from the Latin alphabet) is only 60%

phonetic, making pronunciation chancy. The best transliteration schemes are also hit and miss.

Using the pronunciation, one symbol represents one sound. The consonants are the most stable

elements of the language, but the violent vowels and the diabolical diphthongs will cause trouble

continually. Consequently, here are the potential flashpoints that may up-end English speakers as

they try to negotiate the pronunciation of the Interlinear Greek and Hebrew texts.

Vision of Divine Glory

22 Now over the heads of the living beings there looked something like an expanse, like the

awesome gleam of crystal, spread out over their heads.

udamut al ra ʃ e haçaja raki-a k ə-enand the likeness on the heads of the living creature of the firmament [was] as the color

hak ɛraç hanovra natul al ra ʃ ehɛm mima-əlacrystal of the terrible stretched forth over their heads above.

23Under the expanse their wings stretched out straight, one toward the other; each one also hadtwo wings covering its body on the one side and on the other.

And under the firmament [were] their wings straight the one toward the other

1Then He said to me, "Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!"

vajomɛr elaj bɛn adam amod al raglɛça va-adaber otakAnd he said unto me Son of man stand on your feet and I will speak.

2As He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me.

vatavo vi ru-aç ka-a ʃɛr dibɛr elaj vata-amideni al raglaj

and entered in the spirit into me when he spoke unto me and set on my feet

va-ɛʃ ma ɛt midaber elaj

that I heard him that spoke unto.

3Then He said to me, "Son of man, I send you to the sons of Israel, to a rebellious people who have

rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day.

6"And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns accompanyyou and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor feel dismay at their presence, for theyhave proved themselves a rebellious house.

1Then He said to me, "Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house ofIsrael."

Moreover he said unto me Son of man that you find eat eat roll

2So I opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll.

3He said to me, "Son of man, feed your stomach and fill your body with this scroll which I give you "Then I ate it, and it tasted sweet as honey in my mouth.

8"Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.

Behold I have made your face strong against their faces and your forehead strong

9"Like emery harder than flint I have made your forehead. Do not fear them or feel dismay before them,

though they have proved themselves a rebellious house."

Then took me up the spirit and I heard behind me a voice rushing of a great

[saying] Blessed [are] the glory of the LORD in His place.

13And I heard the sound of the wings of the living beings touching one another and the sound of thewheels beside them, even a great rumbling sound.

[I heard] also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one about

hand of the LORD felt strong on me.

15Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the river Chebar at Tel-abib, and I sat there seven days

where they lived, causing consternation among them.

18"When I say to the wicked, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the

wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.

20"Again, when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I place anobstacle before him, he will die; since you have not warned him, he shall die in his sin, and hisrighteous deeds which he has done people shall not remember; but his blood I will require at yourhand.

[man]does turn when a righteous from his righteousness and commit iniquity and I lay

miç ʃ ol ləfanav hu jamut ki lo hizhartoa stumbling block before him he shall die because not [have] given him warning

bəçatato jamut vəlo tizaçarna t ͡ sidkotav a ʃɛr asa

in his sin he shall die and not [shall] be remembered his righteousness that he has done

vədamo mijad əça avake ʃ

but his blood at your hand will I require.

21"However, if you have warned the righteous man that the righteous should not sin and he does not sin,he shall surely live because he took warning; and you have delivered yourself."

və-ata ki hizharto t ͡ sadik ləvilti çato t ͡ sadik vəhu lo

and you if warm the righteous not [will] sin [man] that the righteous and he not

çata çajo jijɛ ki nizhar və-ata ɛt naf ʃəça hit ͡ st ͡ salta[will] sin he shall surely live because he is warned also you your soui have delivered.

22The hand of the LORD was on me there, and He said to me, "Get up, go out to the plain, and there Iwill speak to you."

vatəhi alaj ʃ am jad javɛ vajomɛr elaj kum t ͡ se ɛl

and was on there the hand of the LORD me and he said unto me Arise go forth into

habika vəʃ am adaber otaçthe plain and I will there talk with.

23So I got up and went out to the plain; and behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, like the glory

13'Indeed, the seller will not regain what he sold as long as they both live; for the vision regarding alltheir multitude will not avert, nor will any of them maintain his life by his iniquity.

14'They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to the battle, for My wrath

The sword [is] outside and the pestilence and the famine inside he who [is] in the field

16'Even when their survivors escape, they will flee to the mountains like doves of the valleys, all ofthem mourning, each over his own iniquity.

LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetite nor can they fill their stomachs, for their iniquity has become an occasion of stumbling.

23'Make the chain, for the land has filled with bloody crimes and the city fills with violence.

Make a chain for the land is full crimes of bloody and the city is full of violence.

24'Therefore, I will bring the worst of the nations, and they will possess their houses I will also make

the pride of the strong ones cease, and their holy places will become profaned.

25'When anguish comes, they will seek peace, but none will come.

26'Disaster will come upon disaster and rumor will add to rumor; then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but the law will become lost from the priest and counsel from the elders.

4And behold, the glory of the God of Israel filled there, like the appearance which I saw in the plain.

10So I entered and looked, and behold, every form of creeping things and beasts and detestable things,with all the idols of the house of Israel, they had carved on the wall all around.
