Safety in Assembly

During assembly of this aircraft, you will be asked to use sharp knives and hobby adhesives. Please follow all safety procedures recommended by the manufacturers of the products you use, and always follow these important guidelines: ALWAYS protect your eyes when working with adhesives, knives, or tools, especially power tools. Safety glasses are the best way to protect your eyes. ALWAYS protect your body, especially your hands and fingers when using adhesives, knives, or tools, especially power tools. Do not cut toward exposed skin with hobby knives. Do not place hobby knives on tables or benches where they can roll off or be knocked off. ALWAYS have a first‐aid kit handy when working with adhesives, knives, or tools, especially power tools. ALWAYS keep hobby equipment and supplies out of the reach of children.

Safety in Flying

This is NOT a toy! It is a very high‐performance RC airplane capable of high speeds and extreme maneuvers. It should only be operated by a competent pilot in a safe area with proper supervision. ONLY fly your aircraft in a safe, open area, away from spectators and vehicles–and where it is legal to fly. NEVER fly over an unsafe area, such as a road or street. Never fly too close to yourself or spectators.

Never run your motor inside a house or building with the propeller attached – Remove the prop for safety.

Airframe Assembly

Locate the two wing halves. Apply foam safe glue to the inter-locking joining areas of the two halves.

After applying the glue, put the joined wing on a flat surface carefully. Wait for at least 3-5 minute until the glue has cured. The pre-cut motor opening on the wing needs to be cleared of foam.

Page 9: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Locate the front of the wing, apply hot melt adhesive to the joining area.

Join the wing with the front of the wing and allow the glue to properly bond.

Locate the two fuselage halves. Use foam safe glue to join them together.

Allow the glue to fully cure. The fuselage has locking tabs that match slots on the wing. By sliding the fuselage onto the wing, carefully align and test-fit the fuselage with the wing. When proper positioned, the fuselage should end near the motor opening on the wing.

After the fuselage has been test-fit with the wing, use hot melt glue to secure the fuselage onto the wing.

Locate the 350mm carbon fiber rod and the 640mm carbon fiber rod.

Install the carbon fiber rods in the pre-cut slots on the wing. Apply hot melt glue to secure the rods on the wing.

Slide the vertical fins into the pre-cut slots on the wing. Apply hot melt glue to secure the vertical fins. The vertical fins should be

installed at roughly 60 degree angle to the wing.

This completes the assembly of the foam airframe of the airplane.

Landing Gear Installation

Parts used in landing gear assembly:

Locate the wood landing gear mount with cut out for the landing gear wire. Apply CA glue to the land gear to secure it to the wood mount. Then sandwich the landing gear mount between the other two wood pieces and use hot melt glue to secure.

Page 18: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Install tire on the landing gears. Lock the tires in place with the supplied wheel collars.

Page 19: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Use hot melt glue to secure the wooden landing gear block to the side of the fuselage. Pay attention to the correct orientation.

Locate the slot for installing front landing gear on the fuselage. Apply hot melt glue in the slot. Install the wood block in the slot. Use 2mm or 1/16 drill bit with the opening on the wood block as guide, drill through the wood block and through the fuselage. If you don’t have a drill you may also heat the landing gear wire and use it to melt the foam on the fuselage and create the necessary hole.

Page 20: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

The landing gear wire is longer than needed so you should cut roughly 1 1/4in from the landing gear wire. Assemble the landing gear as shown below. Use the wheel collar to secure the landing gear wire.

Install a micro servo in the pre-cut servo opening on the fuselage. Use hot melt glue to secure the servo. Install an EZ-connector on the servo arm for installing pushrod.

Page 21: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Locate the 3in pushrod and install the pushrod as shown below. After you have aligned the pushrod with the control horn and servo arm, you should cut the excess length from the pushrod, leaving roughly 1/2in at the end for future adjustments.

Page 22: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Servo Installation

Instructions below are for using linked aileron and elevator control surfaces. If you plan to use separate servos for aileron and elevators, you will need to cut two additional servo openings and use the EZ-connector on all four control horns.

Assemble two control horns with EZ-connectors. Two other control horns do not need EZ-connectors. Also install EZ-connector on the servo arm of two of your own servos.

Install the two control horns with EZ-connector on the elevators. The two control horns without EZ-connector should be on the ailerons.

Page 23: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Glue the two aileron servos to the servo openings on the fuselage using hot melt glue.

Connect the aileron and elevator control horns using 135mm (Approx. 5.3in) pushrods as shown below. If you want to use separate servos for aileron and elevator you will need to make a servo opening on the fuselage for the elevator servos.

Motor and Battery Installation

Open the fuselage door. Position the velcro straps in the velcro slot. Apply hot melt glue to the edge of the foam.

Secure the battery plate to the edge of the foam.

Page 25: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Secure your motor to the plastic motor mount. Secure your prop to the motor. The motor opening can accommodate upto 6in props.

Glue the motor mount to the airframe using hot melt glue.

Page 26: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

Connect the ESC to your motor. Connect the servo wires to your receiver. You may install also a velcro on the battery plate to secure the battery.

Fuselage door can be secured to the fuselage using tape.

Page 27: F-22 Raptor Kit - Value Hobby · 2017. 8. 8. · The locking tabs on the fuselage should be aligned with the slots on the bottom plate. Apply hot melt glue to the slots on the wing

The CG should be 435mm (17.1in) from the front of the airplane. Control throws should be 30-40 degrees.
