Bishop’s Annual Appeal The 2017 Bishop's Annual Appeal has been launched in our parish and throughout our diocese. We join our larger Catholic family throughout South Carolina to help fund many im-portant ministries that are at the core mission of our church. Each year, the Bishop's Annual Appeal allows us to
look outside our parish boundaries and support the universal causes of our church. In 2016 we raised over $3.75 million dollars to support our Diocesan-wide ministries. We hope to continue our success this year not only in dollars raised but by increased participation as well. Over the next few weeks, you will receive information regarding the Appeal in the mail. You also will be hearing more about the BAA during Mass over the next few weekends. We ask you to make your commitment by or on the week-end of February 19th. Thank you for your considera-tion and support of these important ministries that support our diocese and our local parish.

need of food or financial assistance for rent or utility bills, please contact St. Vincent de Paul at 843-224-4592.

Reusable cloth grocery bags are also a huge help. Items may be brought to Sr. Carol or the Parish office.
Thank you for helping us help others!

Lenten Bible Study As we prepare ourselves for the passion, death and resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ let us draw near to Him as he hangs on the cross and hear as He breathlessly utters the last words of His life. Not words of accu-sation and condemnation but words of mercy and forgiveness, words of hope! This Lenten season join us on Thursdays to read and discuss the meanings and consider the implications of His words. We have heard them again and again in scripture but have we taken the time to fully consider the depths of their meaning in our relationship with Him. We will use the study guide “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Rich Cleveland and the 7 session study begins on February 23rd. More details will follow in next week’s bulletin.
May she and her family grow in wisdom and grace all their days!

Scripture Reflection
S tewardship is putting our faith in action through the use of the
gifts given to us by God. It is becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ. The Lord did not want us to be passive in our approach to living. He wants more from us than just being quietly holy.
Remember that stewardship is a call from God to recognize that all of our blessings and talents have been given to us for a purpose. As baptized Catholics it is our obligation to share these gifts willingly in order to serve the Church and our parish community. As we have pointed out many times, stewardship is much more than financial support. It is, as stated, putting our faith in action with the key word there as “action.” In that way we can become, also as stated, a true disciple of the Lord.
In today’s Gospel reading from the Book of Matthew Jesus calls us salt and then light. He tells us, for example, that we are the light of the world, re-flecting His light. Specifically He says to those who choose to be His disciple, “Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand.”
St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, “To keep a lamp burning you have to keep putting oil in it.” If we see ourselves as lamps as Jesus told us we should be, we need to keep the oil in it and that requires action on our part.
