Minimum Temperature Above normal by 2 to 4 0 C over some parts of West Rajasthan. It was normal to near normal over rest of the country except some parts of Lakshadweep, isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, West Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu where it was below normal by 2 to 4 0 C. In the monsoon season, weekly Rainfall for the country as a whole during the week 23 rd June, 2016 to 29 th June, 2016 has been 1% higher than Long Period Average (LPA). Rainfall (% departure from LPA) in the four broad geographical divisions of the country during the above period was higher by 43% in South Peninsula, 11% in Central India and lower by 33% in East & North East India, 9% in North West India. The cumulative rainfall in the country during the monsoon season i.e. 01 st June, 2016 to 29 th June, 2016 has been 12% lower than Long Period Average (LPA). Rainfall (% departure from LPA) in the four broad geographical divisions of the country during the above period was higher than 22% in South Peninsula but lower by 27% in East & North East India, 18% in Central India, 2% in North West India.

Summary observations of the Group on Agenda Items

Details of the mean maximum and minimum temperature during the week 23rd

June, 2016 to 29th

June, 2016 were as under:-

Maximum Temperature

Above normal by 2 to 40C over Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, many parts of Jharkhand, some

parts of Himachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and isolated pockets of

East Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal.

It was normal to near normal over rest of the country except many parts of Rayalaseema,

Tamil Nadu, some parts of South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated

pockets of Konkan, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep where it was below normal by

2 to 60C.

Minimum Temperature

Above normal by 2 to 40C over some parts of West Rajasthan.

It was normal to near normal over rest of the country except some parts of Lakshadweep,

isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, West Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra

Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu where it was

below normal by 2 to 40C.

In the monsoon season, weekly Rainfall for the country as a whole during the week 23rd

June,

2016 to 29th

June, 2016 has been 1% higher than Long Period Average (LPA). Rainfall (%

departure from LPA) in the four broad geographical divisions of the country during the above

period was higher by 43% in South Peninsula, 11% in Central India and lower by 33% in East &

North East India, 9% in North West India.

The cumulative rainfall in the country during the monsoon season i.e. 01st June, 2016 to 29

th June,

2016 has been 12% lower than Long Period Average (LPA). Rainfall (% departure from LPA) in the

four broad geographical divisions of the country during the above period was higher than 22% in

South Peninsula but lower by 27% in East & North East India, 18% in Central India, 2% in North

West India.

Out of 36 met sub-divisions, 24 met sub-divisions constituting 64% of the total area of the country

has received excess/normal rainfall, 12 met sub-divisions constituting 36% of the total area of the

country has received deficient/scanty rainfall.

Central Water Commission monitors 91 major reservoirs in the country which have total live

capacity of 157.80 BCM at Full Reservoir Level (FRL). Current live storage in these reservoirs as

on 30th

June, 2016 was 23.94 BCM as against 50.05 BCM on 30.06.2015 (last year) and 34.11 BCM

of Normal (average storage of the last 10 years) storage. Current year’s storage is 48% of the last

year’s storage and 70% of the normal storage.

As per latest information available on sowing of crops, around 20% of the normal area under

Kharif crops has been sown upto 01.07.2016. Total area sown under Kharif crops in the country

as on 01.07.2016 has been reported to be 215.87 lakh hectares as compared to 279.27 lakh

hectares in the corresponding period of last year. This year’s area coverage so far is lower by

63.4 lakh ha. than the last year.

As compared to normal area as on date, total area coverage this year is higher by 3.5 lakh ha.

under Tur, 1.1 lakh ha. under Urad and lower by 11.8 lakh ha. under Rice, 1.8 lakh ha. under

Jowar, 2.9 lakh ha. under Bajra, 2.6 lakh ha. under Groundnut, 3.1 lakh ha. under Soyabean,

and 17.7 lakh ha. under Cotton.

All-India progressive procurement of Rice as on 01.07.2016 for the marketing season 2015-16

was 340.54 lakh tonnes against the procurement of 312.53 lakh tonnes upto the corresponding

period of last year.

Availability position of seeds and fertilizers has been found satisfactory.

2. Reservoir Status (For the week ending on 30.06.2016)

The Central Water Commission monitors the live storage of 91 important/major reservoirs,

having capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 157.80 billion cubic meters (BCM), which is

about 62% of total reservoir capacity in the country.

Water stock in 91 major reservoirs increased to 23.94 BCM from the previous week’s level

of 23.20 BCM. Current storage is lower than the last year’s position of 50.05 BCM and the

average of last 10 year’s storage of 34.11 BCM.

The percentage to live capacity at FRL was 32% on 30/06/2015, 24% on 30/06/2014,

27% on 30/06/2013 and 16% on 30/06/2012.

There were 35 reservoirs having storage more than 80%, 12 reservoirs having storage between 50% to

80% of Normal Storage, 18 reservoir having storage between 30% to 50%, 26 reservoir having storage

upto 30% of Normal Storage and 07 reservoir having no live storage.

4. Pest & Diseases:

Incidence of white fly on cotton crop has been reported in low to moderate intensity in few villages of Khian Sarwar &

Abohar blocks of Fazilka district of Punjab.

Incidence of brinjal leaf curl virus on brinjal crop has been reported in moderate intensity in Trichy district of

Tamilnadu.

Incidence of Cutworm on Maize crop has been reported in moderate to moderate to severe intensity in Doda &

Kishtwar districts of Jammu & Kashmir.

Incidence of Giant african snail on rice, papaya, coffee, banana, Rubber Seedlings, vegetables and tuber crops has been

reported in trace to low intensity in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam & Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala, affected area

1920 Hectare.

No shortage of Chemical / Bio-pesticides was reported from any State / UT.
