Based in Weaver Street, the company’s mainfabrication site is home to a 30,000ft2 fabricationfacility comprising 6 large bays served by a varietyof overhead cranes with a maximum single liftcapacity of 50 tonnes.

Commissioned in 2003 and to fulfil the company’sincreasing machining requirements, A. TaylorModder Avenue boasts an array of bothconventional and CNC machine tools rarely seenin the sub contract sector today. Through carefuland structured investment A.Taylor hasassembled an impressive range of versatileprecision machines covering small turning andmilling through to large capacity CNC vertical andhorizontal boring.

To provide further capacity to it’s global customerbase A. Taylor opened it’s third and latest site in2007, creating a purpose built facility for theassembly, testing and inspection of finishedgoods. A.Taylor Pepper Road despatches‘Taylormade’ products worldwide on a daily basisand is conveniently situated for all major shippingnetworks.

STEEL PROFILING AND MATERIAL PREPARATIONIn 2007, A.Taylor & Son opened their third site in Leeds with a large bay dedicated tothe preparation and processing of steel supplying both their fabrication andmachining facilities.

Covering 3 large well equipped bays and servedwith ample craneage, all forms of materialpreparation are undertaken, including CNCprofiling up to 250mm thick and high definitionplasma cutting up to 40mm thick.

The company carries a healthy stock of carbonsteel in both sheet and plate form, along with anarray of sections from joist and beam through tobox section and tube. In stocking such a diverserange of steel A.Taylor can react quickly to urgentcustomer requirements therefore reducing leadtime and a reliance on sub suppliers.

Many of the projects A.Taylor work on featurehighly technical specifications and the skillsgained in servicing many high profile industrieshave given the company a full understanding ofclient requirements, regardless of complexity.

FABRICATIONThe ‘TAYLORMADE’ logo is synonymous with the supply of high quality fabrications inboth carbon and stainless steels, aluminium and other exotic materials, includingduplex.

The company’s key fabrication facility is based inWeaver Street, comprising 6 modern bayscovering 30,000ft2 served by a variety of cranes.Restricted only by the physical size that can betransported, the most recently built and largestbay 6 comprises 50 tonne craneage and isparticularly suited to offshore structures, shippingframes, large diameter tanks, cylindrical vesselsand base frames.

Lighter components manufactured range fromprecision sheet metal through to complex highintegrity prototypes.

Over recent years and working in partnership withits major clients A.Taylor has committedresources to creating a number of productioncells for the manufacture of critical components.Utilising its highly skilled workforce, alongsidebespoke fabrication jigs and semi automatedwelding systems, the company has recognised thevalue of key process control, not only givingrepeatability and consistently high quality, butequally as important - providing opportunities forproduct development and value engineering.

Additionally and in response to client demand thecompany operates a dedicated bay for themanufacture of stainless and alloy steelfabrications. Segregated from carbon steelproduction and predominantly serving thechemical and hygiene industries this clean bayworks with several grades of stainless and duplexmaterials.

MACHININGUnquestionably the fastest growth area within the company, A. Taylor and Son havecreated a machining facility most fabricators could only wish for.

Originally commissioned in 1993 with just onemachine tool - a Giddings and Lewis horizontalborer, the company was keen to compliment it’score fabrication expertise and exploit potentialvalue added opportunities given a dwindling subcontract machining sector.

Initially the company tackled machining with thesame high quality uncompromising approach theyapplied to fabricated products. This early successcreated increased customer demand and provedto be the catalyst for the company opening asecond site in 2003 dedicated solely to machining.

Today 95% of ‘Taylormade’ fabrications containsome element of machining, which paystestament to the foresight of the board manyyears ago.

Through steady growth and carefully structuredinvestment, conventional vertical and horizontalborers are now complimented by a host ofmedium to heavy CNC machine tools. Forcomponents requiring milling or horizontal boringA.Taylor boast a 5 axis SHW CNC machiningcentre, Tos CNC machining centre, 2 metre tableKuraki horizontal borer, Mazak CNC horizontalmachining centre and high powered Butler CNCElgamil with 15 tonne capacity.

Turned components can be produced on a rangeof lathes up to 1 metre diameter and include aCNC Yamazaki, CNC Binns and Berry, 2 CNC MoriSeiki and a number of centre lathes includingSwift, Harrison and a Dugard Champion. Largercomponents can be machined on conventionaland CNC vertical borers with 2 Webster &Bennett sitting alongside a Dorries Sharman VTLup to a maximum diameter of 2 metres.

Higher volume batch products are ideally suitedto the company’s Hitachi Seiki and Mazak twinpallet horizontal machining centres along with anarray of smaller machines for precision milling, turning and boring.

A comprehensive capacity list is included at therear of this brochure giving full scope of currentmachine tools.

“Conventional vertical and horizontal borers are now complimented bya host of medium to heavy CNC machine tools”.
