Course Contents:

1. Reading Skills: Reading Tactics and strategies; Reading purposes–kinds of purposes andassociated comprehension; Reading for direct meanings; Reading for understandingconcepts, details, coherence, logical progression and meanings of phrases/ expressions.

Activities:a) Active reading of passages on general topicsb) Comprehension questions in multiple choice formatc) Short comprehension questions based on content and development of ideas

2. Writing Skills: Guidelines for effective writing; writing styles for application, resume,personal letter, official/ business letter, memo, notices etc.; outline and revision.

Activities:a) Formatting personal and business letters.b) Organising the details in a sequential orderc) Converting a biographical note into a sequenced resume or vice-versad) Ordering and sub-dividing the contents while making notes.e) Writing notices for circulation/ boards

Suggested Pattern of Question Paper:The question paper will consist of five skill–oriented questions from Reading and WritingSkills. Each question will carry 10 marks. The questions shall be phrased in a manner thatstudents know clearly what is expected of them. There will be internal choice whereverpossible.

Paper-I: PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT(Practical)

Practical: 12 Hours per week Max. Marks: 150Time: 4 Hrs.

Instructions to the Examiner: The examiner will set one theme based question. Emphasis shouldbe given to the theme, design features and presentation.The Format of portfolio should be uniform. The presentation of the portfolio depends on thecontents and also on layouts. The end result should look very neat and professional.

The Portfolio must include: Curriculum Vita Theme of the project

Mood board, Story Board, Ideation Board, Colour Palette and Fabric Chart. There should be inclusion of designs for Kids/ Female

specification sheets showing technical strength are vitally important. Line planning, FabricIndications, Fabric Consumption detailed measurement charts etc are all essential. Theseare to be used in conjunction with croquies.

The Collection is to be based on innovative fabric combinations, surface texture andornamentation. It is very important that the designs and embroidery motifs be original

All the garments constructed in Apparel Production and workshop (semester-II to VI) shouldbe included. Students have to submit the portfolio including model dress up in prepared garmentswith full make-over.
