EPAG review

The Edinburgh Plan Advisory Group (EPAG) help plan services for people with a learning disability. The group includes Council and voluntary organisation staff, people with learning disabilities and carers. They have been looking at the aims and the targets of the group. A new pack will be made to give to new members and to let people know what work the group does. They would like to invite speakers from health, transport and other important areas to the group. At the last meeting the group spoke about employment opportunities and the success of Council supported work placements called Project Search. EPAG will meet again in October. If you want further information or would like an issue to be spoken about then email [email protected] or call 0131 662 1962. EPAG would like to remember and thank Jimmy McIntosh who has sadly passed away.

Journeys – Making a difference with your Self-Directed Support

A lot of families are ready to make the most of Self-Directed Support (SDS), but some are worried about the maze of funding and support that is out there. If you want to have more choice and control over you and your children’s support, then Journeys might be the service for you. Journeys is a 2 year project funded by the Scottish Government to offer Independent Broker Support for families who need help to make the most of their SDS. It is run by the Edinburgh Development Group (EDG). They can work with:

• people with learning disabilities who want support to make the most of their SDS

• families and people who want to find out about Individual Service Funds

• families with young disabled people who want to organize SDS. To find out more about Broker Support from the Journeys project, contact EDG on 0131 476 0522, email [email protected] or visit the website, www.edg-sco.org
