Dear JCC Members and Friends,It’s summertime at the JCC, and as I write this message…it’s very hot outside. The JCC is filled with children and adults of all ages enjoying our swim club (300 families!) Camp Ruach enrollment is at an all time high with 527 campers! All of our other facilities and programs are busy with people swimming, working out and socializing. Of course, at the JCC we’re always thinking about the next season and expanding programming and perfecting all that we do at the JCC for all of you.

As we enter the twelfth program season at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC, our leadership and staff are very excited about our future. We are involved in strategic thinking and planning to enlarge the JCC family and continue to expand our “menu” of offerings. High on our agenda is reaching out to residents in Hunterdon and Warren counties who also can benefit by participation in JCC programs and services.

Our Swim & Trim Capital Campaign is in its second phase. This winter everyone involved with aquatics will benefit by the new state-of-the-art dome which will be installed over our out-door pool. This will enable us to utilize our outdoor pool year round. Next will be the expansion of our fitness center and our group fitness space. We know that members of our fitness community will both support and welcome these enhancements. We are so grateful to the many JCC members who have already come forward to support the Swim & Trim Campaign and the next very exciting developments at the JCC. Of course, our intent is to constantly improve our facilities and our service to you, our valued members. These improvements represent the growth of the JCC and the eagerness of so many of our community to be a part of our JCC family.

We are thrilled about our brand new Infant Childcare program at the Blaustein Early Childhood Center. It is so very exciting to provide loving full day infant childcare for children as young as six weeks of age. The Blaustein Early Childhood Center now offers parents the opportunity to register their pre-schoolers for twelve months of program, creating a seamless transition for children and parents between nursery school and camp. Of course, J Crew, our after-school program for Grades K-5 continues to grow and is “the place to be” for after school care and fun! A variety of enrichment programs including our championship Bridgewater Tide Swim team make the JCC “the place to be” for children of all ages!

As many of you know, Les Mills BodyPump has been an enormous hit, and in September we will introduce Les Mills’ BodyCombat.

As you read this Program Guide, consider checking out some program offerings that are brand new and some that would be new for you. Make this season one during which you expand your horizons while enhancing your lives. Make the very most of your membership at the JCC.

The Fall is busy with some wonderful events…Coming up are the Larry Cubas Memorial Basketball Tournament – September 25; the Second Annual JCC 5K Walk/Run – October 16; the Fourth Annual Texas Hold’Em Tournament – October 24; and on November 19 we will be honoring two exemplary couples for their leadership and vision. Andrea & Peter Horowitz and Roxanne & Bruce Levinston will be honored as the JCC’s “MVP’s” for 2011 with a blow-out tailgating party in our gym. The evening will have an ad journal which will appear both in print and in cyber space! Stay tuned as we finalize our year-long calendar for the Jewish LIFE Festival of Books and Culture. This year will include a fantastic lineup of guest speakers -- including Arthur Schwartz and Myla Goldberg –plus additional speakers, films and classes taught at our local synagogues.

There is one additional piece of news to share…we are launching our newly redesigned website in September! So now you will have a new dynamic way to view information on all of the programs and services the JCC provides. Our website address is www.ssbjcc.org. Our Social Networking efforts continue to grow on both Facebook and Twitter…please follow us!

On behalf of JCC President David Bunevich, all of our leadership and the staff of the JCC, thank you for your ongoing support. As part of the JCC family, each of you can take pride in the assistance extended to people in need, and in the fine values reflected through all of our programming and in the life-enhancing services provided to people of all ages and all segments of our community.

All of us at the JCC wish you a healthy, sweet, and peaceful New Year in 5772. Shana Tovah!

Creative Theatre is for children 3-5 years old. Each class will include dramatic play, story enactment, imagination journeys, theatre games, music, and dance. One of the most special things about creative theatre is that there are no "wrong" answers - through pretending, animals can talk, kids can travel to outer space or the jungle, and the sky can be green while the grass is blue.Tuesdays, 3-3:30pm; 12 weeks starting 9/20$100(M) $140(NM)

Proper Supervision is more than the lifeguards’ responsibility: Children ages 4 and younger MUST have an adult within arm’s length of them at all times. Children ages 7-11 are permitted in the pool provided that a parent remains in the pool area. Children ages 12 and up are permitted to be alone in the facility. Thank you for helping us keep our pools safe and secure.

Choosing the Right Swim Class/LevelIf you are unsure of a child's level, you can bring your swimmer in to be tested or

contact the Aquatics Director for questions. An in-person evaluation will ensure that your child will be in the right class. It only takes a few minutes for an instructor to evaluate a swimmer's level. Call the Aquatics office for more information or to schedule an appointment to start your swimmer off with the right class this session.

Observation of LessonsWhile we recognize that parents are as thrilled about the progress of their children as the students are, we respectfully ask that parents remain seated on the 6 foot side of the pool bleachers for the duration of your child’s lesson. Unless specified (such as a parent/child swim class) parents are not permitted in the water with their children as this is a distraction to the group as a whole. Thank you for your cooperation.

Make Up PolicyGroup swim classes at the Bridgewater JCC enjoy a limited four student to one instructor ratio. Because of this ratio classes fill up quickly leaving not much option for a makeup class. In order to be considered for a make up class, a doctor’s note must be given to the Aquatics Office. The Aquatics Department cannot guarantee that a makeup class will be available, however every effort will be made to accommodate the need of the individual and that there is space in the class desired.

• Aquatots I (Ages 6 months-18 months): A fun introduction to the water for infants beyond the bathtub! Song and activities help to develop basic arm and leg movements as well as learning to be comfortable getting their faces and bodies wet. Water safety and fun is also stressed. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under the child’s swimsuit.

• Aquatots II (Ages 18 months to 3 years old): For those little swimmers who are already comfortable in the water! Songs and activities help infants and toddlers further gain confidence and practice their budding basic swimming skills. Starfish skills are introduced and children begin to work more with the instructor to get prepared to move to the next level of swimming and rely less on Mommy and Daddy’s help. A swim diaper and rubber pants are required under a child’s swimsuit.
