Communal singing is a dichotomy, a gentle act that generates amazing power. Like a spider’s finespun web, gossamer and gauzy yet strong enough to hold its audience captive, choral music lends its breathtaking beauty and grips the listener with its hypnotic relevance. It’s the parents’ lullaby that soothes millions of babies to sleep each night. It’s the strength of song that sustains hope and sways national influence--Estonia and South Africa bear
witness to this in recent history. It’s the magical combination of music, picture and story that suspends our disbelief in films, transporting us to another time, a different place, filling us
with empathy, compassion and wonder.
Our performance selections this season are much like a soundtrack for a life well-lived, songs of faith, humor, adventure, even regret. Let this music transport and transform you,
grip and soothe you. This, dear listener, is singing--powerful and primal, delicate and divine.
