The Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) is an organization for active, older adults (50+) offering classes and social activities for continued intellectual and personal growth.

Refund PolicyNo refunds are given for yearly Academy for Lifelong Learning membership fees. Supply fees are not refundable.

Get Your Student ID CardWith your ALL membership, you are eligible for a free photo student ID card. After registering for ALL and paying the membership fee, ask for a Student ID voucher from the Pay Counter (Counter #4) in the CASA building. Then, proceed to the Library’s Circulation Desk and let them know you are there to get your ID. If you already have your ID, please keep it current by having the semester updated at the Pay Counter.

Important Information Regarding Classes with FeesThe CyFair ALL program offers a few classes that require an additional fee. For these popular classes, there are special registration guidelines. If you want to sign up for a class with a fee, it is important to do this at the Registration Open House. Early enrollment in these classes is not accepted. Since enrollment in these classes is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the class fee is paid at that time, make it a priority on the day of the Open House to go directly to the sign up tables when the doors open.

AARP Driver SafetyAARP Driver Safety ProgramTHIS CLASS ONLY: FREE to active duty or retired VETERANS (U. S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves or Coast Guard) and THEIR SPOUSES (including widows/widowers), domestic partners, dependents and children. A Veteran’s Promotion Voucher (supplied in class) must be completed to receive credit for the class.AARP Driver Safety: A five-hour class targeted for older individuals who are interested in improving their driving skills. Participants will review the “rules of the road” and defensive driving practices. Time will be provided for registration, instruction, certification preparation and distribution. Many auto insurers will discount your premium, however this class may not be used to dismiss a ticket for a moving violation in Harris County. Course fee (payable by check to AARP on the day of the class): $12 for AARP members (must present your AARP card to receive full discount) and $14 for non-members. Bring your driver’s license. Quilling is the paper art where you use a thin strip of paper to make a coil. The coils are then shaped and glued to form flowers, leaves and other ornamental designs. Quilling’s biggest attraction is that you can create your own art work with very reasonable amount of money and time. It is a wonderful hobby which brings much needed tranquility to our fast-paced life. Beginning beaders will receive instruction for a basic daisy chain or peyote stitch bracelet. A supply fee of $5.00 (collected in class) will cover a beginning project. Experienced beaders should bring their own beads, findings, etc. and sit, work and enjoy conversation with other beaders. Share your ideas for making lovely personalized jewelry. Birthday Card StampingBirthday Cards are always special because they are a remembrance of a particular person. While seasonal cards are great, it always wonderful to receive or give a Birthday Card. Bobbie Leas will show us how to make memorable Birthday Cards that are sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. She will provide card stock, ink, stamps, etc. so you can spend your time creating cards for someone you love. Come learn the art of rubberstamping and let your imagination flow. Class fee is $8.00. How about when you give a gift inside a personalized hand-crafted box with an amazing surprise? Make a ClockWhat time is it? If you had a clock you would know. Gene Chism, our resident woodworm, has a new class for us…..making a clock. This class will be as much fun as his other classes. The class fee of $22 will cover the clock works, the numerals, and the wooden face that you will decorate as you wish. Class is limited to 15 participants. Three class sessions: 11/6, 11/13 & 11/20.16924 Wednesday 11/6 – 11/20 1:30-3:30 p.m. HSC 106 Chism Tool Box / Magazine Rack / Carry All Gene Chism has come up with another fun wooden project for us. This project has many uses…..it can be used as a tool box, magazine rack, carry-all or maybe even a picnic tote for utensils. You decide the function that fits your needs. One version of the box uses your old car tags for the sides….so save them if you have them. If you don’t have them, you can have wooden sides. As usual, Gene has done most of the hard work and you will do the sanding and decorating. Limit of 15 participants. Three class sessions: 11/7, 11/14 and 11/21. This is a popular Burmese dish (locally called “Ohn-noe-khauk-swe”) which is also a favorite of most neighboring Asian countries. It consists of chicken cooked in coconut milk to form a thick gravy which is then added to some egg noodles, and served with some optional condiments like sliced raw onions, cilantro, crispy flat noodle, and roasted chili powder (if you want to spice up your bowl). These great ladies of Texas politics made names for themselves on the national stage. Blake Ellis, Assistant Professor of History at LSC-CyFair, will bring these women to life as we discuss their impact on not just Texas, but the nation.16872 Tuesday 10/8 10-11:30 a.m. HSC 106 Ellis Lubbock Cotton Club The Lubbock Cotton Club was a popular dinner club and dance hall that operated from 1938 to 1982. It started as a big band venue but over time morphed into the dance hall where cowboys went to listen to up-and-coming young musicians on their way to stardom. Most importantly it was the only integrated dance hall in West Texas. ”Shivercrats” vs. The People’s Senator: Ralph Yarborough, Democratic Battles, and the Changing Face of Texas Politics in the 1950s The presentation will focus on conflicts in the Texas Democratic Party during the 1950s as conservative “Shivercrats” battled the party’s liberal wing. These conflicts foreshadowed larger trends in Texas and national politics, particularly the movement of conservative Democrats out of the party and into the Republican fold. MUSIC AND THEATERBeginning Mountain DulcimerThe class will begin with basics: what is a mountain dulcimer, how to tune it, how to play it, how to read the music tablature--using several pieces of music per week to help practice skills. We’ll also introduce finger picking, flat picking, and some ornamentation techniques. There is a $4 fee for handouts. If you do not have a mountain dulcimer, a limited number will be available for you to take home and use during the duration of the course.
