All of our garments are knitted and manufactured in

Europe. Yarns, fabrics and details are of highest quality,

carefully chosen to fit our ideas. To strive for conscious

consumption and sustainable production goes without

saying for us, and many of our yarns are organic.

The Ocean, the Winds, and an Unmistakable Love for Knitwear.Some twenty years ago, Tina Karstorp had an idea.

Actually, it blew her away, and it seemed impossible not to

go ahead with it.

Every year, summer or fall, it’s the same story. Wind in

the sails and the sun at your back. But anyone who has

ever been at sea knows that regardless of how warm the

weather is, you always need an extra sweater. One more

layer, a little more warmth. But the fabric’s thickness isn’t

always the crucial part.

The wind at sea is just as welcome as it is unpredict able.

It will push the boat forward or cool the people on board

down. And this is where it all started. Five knitted sweaters

with a thin, windproof layer of fabric on the inside.

“At that very moment, we had a feeling that this would

become something grand. My husband Peter had a

knitting factory back then, and I had the idea. Everything

just fell into place.”

Holebrook has grown since then, but the concept

remains the same. High quality knitted garments,

comfortable and with a sense of freedom and wanderlust.

“Watching our clothes take shape, from the drawing

board to the finished product, is amazing. Now and then

I still get happily surprised when I see someone wearing

one of our sweaters – then I might even say hello to them.”

We’re following closely behind Tina as she enters the

Holebrook warehouse. The scent is a mix of the common

warehouse and knitwear. Warm, soft, knitted sweaters, lots

of them, with a tactile feeling in every fiber.

“My approach is that everybody loves a knitted sweater.

It’s warm, it’s comfortable. And that’s important to me.”

Every year, three new collections are launched –

Originals, Spring and Fall, ladies and gents. All sprung

from the same concept, high quality knitwear.

“When we first started, there was a need for warm

sweaters to keep the wind out. Today there are many

other materials which can act as protective layers.

That’s why we’ve taken our knowledge in knitting forward,

and developed our clothes to become part of an outfit.

They still have that marine feeling, though, and we’ll

always return to that; to the ocean and the freedom.

“It doesn’t have to be connected to sailing, but it

will always be about warm and comfortable clothes for

people to like and feel good in. Maybe even add a sense of

freedom, regardless if you are at sea or at work.”

We are standing by the drawing board. The walls are

covered with sketches, there are yarns and color samples

all around us.

“It’s a very exciting time right now. People are changing

their view on materials and quality. Using materials

that will last long-term is very important to us, and new

technology brings new possibilities. Many of our yarns

are organic, and the fact that we still buy them ourselves

is actually quite unique.”

Tina describes Holebrook’s two-decade journey as a

wave. Things have gone up and down, there have been

breathtaking highs and lows bringing some time to rest.

“But we’ve never stopped moving forward. My ambition

has always been to have a constructive attitude, and to

inspire people to try new things. Peter and I have taken a

step back now, to make room for the next generation, and

I hope we’ve made our mark on Holebrook. I’m incredibly

proud of our journey.”
