coach - michelle brinesrecord 39-8-3accomplishments Ninth straight Class B district title and 6th straight re-gional title. Lost in state quarterfinals to eventual champion North Branch.returnees Senior OH Morgan Briggs is a fourth-year varsity player. Junior MH Kylie Christensen returns, as does junior setter Ali Finch and sophomore OH Gabby Kapuscinski.newcomers Senior DS Megan Alworden, MH Gabby Hoaglund, DS/RH Nicole Kleinsorge and libero Hanna Liptak. Junior MH Naomi Boonzaaijer, RH Mikayela Johns and RH Liz Pyles.strengths We should be a good blocking team with added height and our serving will be a strength, as well. Offensively, we are much deeper than we have been in past years, too.working on The biggest thing we need to work on is just learning how to play together on the court and speeding up our offense.conference I think we will be in the mix again and one of our goals is to win the conference championship. Traverse City Central returns a lot of talent and Petoskey and Traverse City West should be good, too.goals The girls want to get back to Battle Creek and thats our goal every year. Were not going to talk about a lot, though, because we know its go-ing to take a lot of hard work to get there and there are a lot of good teams with the same goal.experience Five seniors, five juniors and one sophomore.
coach - tim omalleyaccomplishments The Cadillac girls were 4th in the Big North Conference, with Brittney Smith earning All-Conference 1st Team and Emily MacLean earning All-Conference 2nd Team. The team finished 5th in the Division 2 regional meet. Haylea Smith finished 12th overall in the re-gional meet and advanced to the D2 State Championship meet. Haley finished 114th in a field of 248. The Boys won three large-school meets during the season. They placed 5th in Big North Conference and finished 11th in the Division 2 regional.returnees For the girls, our senior returning leaders are Katelyn Erickson, Hannah Ludviksen, Jillian McNitt, Kaitlyn Monfils, Jessica Netzley, and Cassie OHagan. Returning juniors are Kate Buckmaster, Paige Fiet, Jessica Geeseman, Abby Hearth, Savana Holmes, Brittney Smith and Haylea Smith. Sophomores with one year racing experience are Brooke Costello, McKinsey Crozier, Caitlin Dietlin, Mary Erickson, Katelyn Goodrich, Rachel Green, Shannon Metzger, Darcy Naugle, Emily Smith, Haley Swiger, and Haley Willis. On the boys team, seniors Nathaniel Dietlin, Jerome Jones and Caleb Mitchell are back to lead the team. Juniors Kyle Pike and Jered Hol-land are also back as upperclassmen. Sophomores are Evan Chilcote, Timothy Coffey, Conner Jackson, Noah Peltier, Rhys Seward and Devin Taylor.newcomers A large turnout of freshman girls includes Brittany Byers, Brittany Cunningham, Kristin Goodrich, Theresa Inchou, Mollie Mockler, Breanna Parker, Erica Peterson, Kendra Phillips, Shayanna Rossell, Abby Wetherell and Jennifer Zuniga. Also joining the team for their first season are senior Cassie OHagan, junior Madison Lux, sophomores Analynne Klotz and Carissa Mitchell. On the boys side, we also have a good turnout of incoming freshmen that includes Matthew Brines, Timothy Carlington, Brandon Eller, Zach Elmore, Grant Fiet and Brendan Hambright.strengths The number of athletes on the girls team has been growing consistently for a number of years and we expect to have up to 40 or more runners ready to toe the line for the first invitational. With only one varsity runner graduating from last years team, the team is experi-enced, deep and determined. We also expect a number of the newcomers competing for var-sity positions. The team is coming into the season with a positive attitude and high expectations. Their experience, strength in numbers, summer training and support for each other provide all the ingredients for success at our scheduled invitational races, the tough Big North Conference and the D2 regional. The boys team is young, but returns four of our 2014 varsity runners. Last sea-sons JV runners and a number of newcomers will have to step up to varsity positions and run well for the team to meet its goals. They have been logging the training miles this summer to be ready to compete. With the new additions, it will take a few early season races to sort out the varsity line-up. There will be adjustments to our strategies as the new teammates gain experience and develop. Practices have been hard and intense this year, and the boys are demonstrating the ability to do the work and meet the increased expectations. They will be prepared to a make a push later in the season in the Big North and regional meets.

Abby Wicker, junior - Abby has been working very hard this summer and is ready to step up and have a good season for us. Lauren Beeman, senior and Me-gan Wilke, sophomore - both girls have put in a lot of work this summer and will round out our top five. I am really looking for these girls to step up this year. Boys: Denver Cade, sophomore - Denver is an outstanding runner. He was all-state last fall and has set his goals high for this season, as well. Graham Spitzer, sophomore - I am excited to see how Graham runs this fall. He has been working hard this summer and I expect to see a lot of improvement this fall. Nathan Klaus, senior and Brock Beeman, sophomore - Nathan and Brock will be much improved this season and will be a key to our team success.newcomers Girls: Samantha Wicker, freshman - Samantha has the potential to be very good. If she can adapt to the longer race, she can be very competitive. Boys: Ridge Beeman, freshman - Ridge is an outstanding talent. He was very good in junior high and I believe he can continue that success this year.strengths We will have a full girls team with five solid runners. Our top runners will be very com-petitive. I like this group of girls. They work hard and are fun to work with. Boys: We are very good with our top three runners. If we can develop our top five, we can be very competitive. Its up to them how hard they are willing to work.working on To start the season we will continue to work on building a strong fitness base that will carry us throughout the season. We always try to use our early season to increase our mileage, continue our strength routine and add speed work that allows us to race fast at the end of the season.conference girls - Benzie Central and Kingsley. Boys- Benzie Central and Frankfort. If we can find a solid fifth runner, we could be very competitive and challenge for a top-three finish.goals Every season is the same for us. We will define success by our improvement throughout the season. We strive for all our athletes to reach their full potential. We want to compete in each meet and have the best team finish possible.experience Girls: one freshman, one sophomore, two juniors and one senior. Boys: One fresh-man, two sophomores and one senior

Our young men are very athletic and have a tremendous work ethic.working on We will need to continue to grow up quickly on our offensive and defensive lines.style We hope the experiences of last year will help this team grow and become better football players and young men. Completing games with only 14 players last year was difficult. We were proud of our young men for working through a difficult situation. We hope those experiences pay off for us this year.goals Our team goal is to compete for the conference championship in the toughest football league in northern Michi-gan. In the immediate sense, all of our focus is on White Cloud and week one. We are working to get better every single day.experience eight seniors, eight juniors and six sophomores

The girls have really been working well togetherhelping each other out with the new rotations and defense.working on Our philosophy this year is Back to Basics. We will be work-ing a lot on technique. Technique with everything from service, passing, set-ting, hitting, blocking, offense and defense. If you get back to the basics with
technique, it will become a habit for the girls and with a great habit, comes great things.style We will be running a 5-1 offense and a rotational defense. The 5-1 offense allows us to have solid hitters more often as well as big blocks. As for the rotational defense, the girls will be able to cover more area.conference I see Beal City as the strong contender for the conference. They have a very solid program and work well together. There could be a lot of sleepers...give me a few weeks to get these girls going and it might be us.goals Success this season is defined as: #thevision - Doing the right thing the right way. Santana is ranked to win state after his runner-up finish last year. After the front two runners, we have three freshmen who will be the top freshmen in D4 along with upperclassmen who were on varsity last year and will now need to fight to make it in the top 7. We have frontrunners and depth
in the front to mid pack that will take us a long way as a team. strenths Run the ball and play sound defense; create turnovers and pursuit to the football.working on Implementing the systems on both sides of the ball. Getting the returning players acclimated and bringing the newcomers up to speed.style Run first with a full-house T offense. We want ball control and to chew up the clock. We play a 5-2 slant defense that stresses tackling, turnovers and pursuit to the football.conference St. Ignace or Johannesburg-Lewiston are the favorites. We are working a lot on team ball possession. It is
very important we are able to maintain possession of the ball as much as possible.style Because we do not have large numbers, we want to be a possession team that will be strong defensively and look for the counter attack with speed up front.conference My opinion would be that Cheboygan is the team to watch in the conference with Harbor Light Christian or Bellaire also pos-sible contenders.goals Our team will define success based on how much we can improve our individual and team skills. We have a big se-nior class that is ready to take the next step as a program. I feel our offense will be more explosive as we have had another year in the system. We have been able to add an-other dimension with run reads and a more advanced pass game. Our defense returns a lot of starters, our entire defen-
sive backfield as well as the linebacking crew return except for one. We will try to be explosive, and be the toughest team on the field week in and week out.working on Furthering our knowledge of the playbook. We want to play fast both offensively and defensively. That takes a lot of work and preparation. We also want to grow as a coaching staff, and continue to get better.style We like to play fast and fly around. We really stress the idea that a team and a community are a family. We will play until the last whistle as hard as we do at the first.conference We set the bar high. Our goal is to be com-peting for a conference championship. Other teams that will be at the top are Beal City, Pine River and McBain. I also think Lake City could take some strides. They were young last year but have gained experience. They are also well coached so they will be prepared.goals Conference championship, 2nd consecutive playoff berth, make a run once we get to the playoffs and taking each game one at a time.

coach - jeff hardingrecord Boys and girls teams finished 2nd in the Highlandaccomplishments Manton boys brought home 6 trophies two 1st place, three 2nd place and one 3rd. Manton girls brought home 5 trophies; three 1st and two 2nd. Both teams finished 2nd in their regional finals and our girls finished 9th at the State Finals and the boys 11th out of the 140 schools.returnees The boys graduated five seniors, which makes our returners even more important. Leading the charge for the boys will be juniors Brock Wright, Andrew Ev-erett Ryan Grondyke and Joey Beehler, along with sopho-more Zach Flint. Our girls team graduated its largest group of seniors ever. Those eight girls were the heart and soul of the team. However, we have a nice group of freshmen that are eager to leave their own mark on the program. With 11 returning girls, including our top four varsity girls in Bailee Kimbel, Tori Moffit, Emily Flint and Autumn Federowicznewcomers Graduation hit our boys team very hard. We have to find some bodies to fill the holes left behind from graduation. So far weve picked up Jacob Cergnul and Hunter Rosted and still working on a couple others. The girls team has many new faces and several looking to
make an impact right from the start of the season. Junior Angelica Parker is retuning from Interlochen Arts school. Her freshman sister Ashley and their cousin Julia Parker are also looking strong. With the additional return of Grace Musselman, our girls team will be loaded with talent again this year.strengths Our boys team has many athletes whose focus is actually other sports. The word has gotten out how much cross country helps improve athletic performance in basketball, wrestling and track. Our strength is their over-all athletic ability and strength. This will really help reduce the amount of running-related injuries since they are true overall athletes. Our girls team strength will be our depth. Well have 6-8 girls that could be the No. 1 runner on most of other teams. With their competitive spirit and the fun we build into practices, theyll all be attacking at every race.Weaknesses Fun. All athletes runthose that enjoy it will continue improving.conference Beal City has won back-to-back Division 4 state championships. Until someone beats them, they are the favorites but dont count us out.goals As a coach I define success as having fun and improving, both as both a team and as individuals. We have tremendous team speed at the skill positions. Also, we have great team chemistry for this year. Our kids have and continue to push each other to make themselves better.working on The one thing that we will be working on the entire season is exceptional execution of the schemes.style On offense, we are a spread football team that will
throw the ball much more than normal high school football teams. We are no-huddle and will thus be exciting for fans to watch. On defense, we are an even front team that will utilize our size and speed to create problems for the opponents.conference Every team in the Highland will be strong this year. There will be no weeks that we can take for granted. However, Beal City continues to the team to beat. Even though they have a new coach, they return a tremendous amount of talent. Evart is well-coached and will be much-im-proved from last year. Pine River continues to have excellent athletes and will be strong again. McBain has a new coach and will be utilizing new schemes but will be big and strong as always. Manto has many good athletes coming off a good season last year. They will be a challenge for sure.goals Our goal is to be competitive in every game and look to get back to the playoffs. It is our expectation to be back playing at the level that Lake City football is accus-tomed to be playing at.experience 12 seniors, four juniors and four sophomores
coach - bridgid ardisreturnees Laraiah Schichtel, Senior OH/back row; Rebecca Young, Se-nior Setter; Serenity Morgan, Senior RH/back row; Emily Schultz, Senior OH/back row; and Maggie Thom, Junior MHnewcomers We have a large JV team we are keeping for the point of bringing some players up throughout the season. Our key players for this year are all the returning seniors and juniors. We are very heavy on returning players this year.strengths I believe our strength this year will be our front row hitting. We came alive with our hitting toward the end of last season and I believe we will continue with that. Our serving has always been a great strength for our team also.working on As a team, we will be working on passing as well as every aspect of the game to get us to the top where every coach would like their
team to be. Team bonding will be the No. 1 thing the first couple of weeks; getting the new players comfortable with the returning players.style When our fans come to our games they will see strong serving as well as strong and aggressive hits at the net. They will see girls that put forth 100 percent each and every set to complete the match. Our fans will see unity on the floor as well as off the floor.conference McBain is always a team we have a hard time with, along with Beal City.goals Our team goals this year will be to play the hardest we can and give our best each and every match. I have strong returning players this year and I feel as though we are ready to move forward in the conference. I feel confi-dent in my players that they will give their all to reach their individual goals as well as a team goal. Im looking forward for the season to begin.experience Five seniors and five juniors

She is ready to work hard to continue that success; Christina Frye, sophomore, is an outstanding track athlete that will help to make this team successful; Hailey Cockeram, sophomore, ran all sum-mer and has worked hard to become competitive and be a valuable member of this team.newcomers Nicolas Arciniego, Ryan Shriver, Conner Fagerman, Zach Gillow, Kyle Briseno, Victor Gehl, Kim John-son, Mari McLure, and Hattie Holshouser.
strengths The boys will pack run well this year. The Lin-derman boys and Jon Larkin run together and quite often finish within seconds of each other. They are looking to add at least two more teammates to that group on a consistent basis. The girls will have a couple of super-driven athletes that will push the others to excel. The girls may be more strung out although they may also have a couple of run-ners close to the top. They are quick to get back out on the course and encourage their third place through seventh place teammates to finish strong.working on Moving the boys pack up closer to the front. The teams will work on pushing themselves at every single meet so they can achieve the goals they have set for themselves by the end of the season.goals It is always a goal to do well in the conference. Both teams are looking to see what they need to do in order to finish in the top half or higher. Being in the top 15 at re-gionals is always a goal of the athletes so they could qualify for state.

Those runners are: Parker Johnson (12), Jared Deighton (11), Gar-ret Melvin (11), Isaiah Keeler (11), Joe Fisher (11), Hunter Pollington (11) and Dallas Swinehart (10). They are a great group of guys who looking to make some significant improvement over last year. Girls: The key returnees on the girls side in-cludes last years state qualifier, Kylie Sikkema (11).newcomers Boys: This years newcomers are John Anderson (11), Trenton DeBoer (11), Robert Hubble (10) and Jacob Chamberlain (9). While there is a little bit of running experience in the group, for the most part we are looking forward to see what these guys can do in cross country. Girls: Our newcomers on the girls side includes Anna Ferman (11) who will bring some success from last years track season as a member of our school record 3,200 relay team, and Tasha-wa Switalski (9) and Haley Miller (9), both bright spots from last years junior high team.strengths Our boys team will be an inter-esting mix of experience and inexperience. While we have some relatively new runners, we also have some runners who have run for a few years and have really put in a lot of work this
summer. I believe they are ready to make the jump. Our success as a team will really depend on how well they make the jump and who steps up to fill our fourth and fifth spots. While we once again dont have a lot of depth on the girls side we do have some very dedicated runners who have put in the summer miles. Last year, we did as well as we did in the conference because our top runners placed well. It looks like we are in a similar situation this year, but with a little more inexperience. The leadership of our veterans to help our younger runners come of age quickly will play a key role in our team success.working on We always stress the impor-tance of taking care of your body, working hard at what you do, and believing that you can ac-complish the things that you always thought you couldnt do. I have kids that are running dis-tances they never thought they would be able to do. Next, itll be their times.conference Id have to say Evart for the boys and Manton for the girls. Both teams have an accomplished group of returning runners and are adding a few more talented freshmen. Beal City is last years state champs and even though theyve lost some to graduation, Ill bet they will be tough as well.goals As always, our goal is to qualify for the state meet. Being a little guy in the always-strong Highland Conference, our goal is to make it into the top three. Beyond that, we want our kids to grow by accomplishing the things that they al-ways thought they couldnt do. Mostly I hope that happens in their running but I know well celebrate in other ways this year too.experience Boys: one senior, 7 juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. Girls: two juniors and two freshmen.

I am also encouraged by how the team plays so well together, and has good communication. This is crucial as we get used to a new setter.working on Offensively, our new setters are working hard to connect with the hit-ters. Although we have a quick libero, our defense needs some work, and that is some-thing our team is committed to improve.style Our game philosophy is to pass well so we get the ball to our hitters. Secondly, our team is committed to staying positive and being flexible. We are not able to be in our high school gym this year due to construction of our beautiful auditorium, therefore our team will be traveling a lot. We want our fans to see a fast-paced game with great hits and serves. We will also have a lot of team spirit and positive communication.conference Beal City always puts together a great volleyball team, and Lake City looked really strong at Ferris State University this year during camp. We will not underes-timate any team in the Highland.goals Our teams goals are to work hard, give 100 percent in practice and games, be positive with our teammates, and have fun. Our depth should be much improved this year. If we can get our pack time down to a minute or less we will be competitive.working on Team spirit and pushing each other to reach our goals. We need the leaders to step forward!conference Boys - Evart has been the team for distance running and this year should be no change in that. I expect McBain boys to push them. Like every year the conference will be competitive. Girls - Beal City is returning conference champs and state champs. However, they lost key runners to graduation. The girls race should be open to three or four teams. Our depth may put us in there.goals Our goals are the same every year! We have many talented underclassmen that need to get experience playing with the upperclassmen.style I hope they see a team that encourages its members to be their best. I hope that they see a team that plays hard, that passes and shoots well, that communicates well, that plays tough defense, and that plays smart soccer. Above all, I hope that they see a team working together as an act of worship. If we can do those things, the year will be a success.conference Gladwin only loses two players from a team that dominated the South in winning the division last year. Houghton Lake should also be tough in the South. Bellaire has won the North (and also the conference championship) the last several years and would be the favorites to do so again. Roscommon and Cheboygan may also be tough in the North.goals I usually measure success by looking primarily at growth. If we grow as a team, and if players grow as individualsin their skill level, in their personal life, and spirituallycertainly that is success. As for winning, if we are able to win the games we should win and can win a few games that we shouldnt really win, that also is a success. Also if we can play the way we hope to play (see above), the year would have to be considered a success. I have coached long enough to know better than to allow winning percentage to define success.experience seven seniors, three juniors, eight sophomores and seven freshmen
