by Pam Hughes, State FRA This month I would like to spotlight our FRG leader from the 732nd FSC in Reidsville. She is

Leigh Ann Murray and she has been the FRG Leader there for the past three years. Dur-

ing this time she has spent countless hours on building the FRG program for the Soldiers and their Families. Leigh Ann is always promoting all resources available and assisting in finding new ones as the need arises. She has hosted many events to include: Back to School events, Fall gatherings, pamper days for the Family Members, etc. She has always had a personable

touch with the Families and Soldiers of the unit. Here’s what 1SG Richard Chapman had to say about Leigh Ann, “It has been a pleasure to have Mrs. Leigh Ann Murray as the 732nd FRG Leader. She is extremely professional and serves the Soldiers and their Families selflessly. She communicates effectively with the Com-mand, Soldiers and their Family Members. She has organized and conducted numerous events to include partnering with the volunteer group AmeriCorps to ship care packages to deployed Soldiers from their unit. Leigh Ann works tirelessly to support the Soldiers and Families with innovative ideas to foster a positive environment. There are many things that Leigh Ann does for the unit that go unnoticed, but what is noticed by the Families and Soldiers of the 732nd is her dedication and devotion to her position.” I know personally that not only does Leigh Ann devote her time and efforts to us, but she also volunteers tirelessly with her children’s Caleb, 10, and Alex, 8, schools and the local Special Olympics Chapter. This is very dear to her heart because her oldest child Caleb is Autistic. Leigh Ann and her husband Don do not let Caleb’s additional needs hold the Family back from taking advantage of normal daily living. As you can tell, she is a very busy Wife, Mother and Volunteer. Several years back, Leigh Ann was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and went thru treatment. This past year, she received the news that the cancer had returned. She now drives 150 miles round trip for her daily Radiation & Chemo treatments. She refuses to let anyone drive her for treatment or baby her during this process. I have chosen to spotlight Leigh Ann just to remind us all that there are still everyday people out there doing exceptional things to support others! Leigh Ann is just one of many of you that are dedicated Volunteers that go Above & Beyond the expectations of your positions. Please join me in saying “Thank You” to Leigh Ann and all other Volunteers you know that mean so much to all of us.

Born and raised here in the great state of North Carolina, I am blessed with

three wonderful children, all grown and living on their own. One in Maine,

one in Mississippi and one here in the eastern part of the state.

After working on the Outer Banks of NC for 8 years in property manage-

ment, I decided to return back home to the Triangle area. Soon after I did I

received a call asking if I would be interested in working with the Raleigh

Funeral Honors team as a civilian bugler. This to me was one of the greatest

honors that I could give to the Families of those which had served in the Mili-

tary and I could finally share my God –given talent in a way that made a

difference! During this time I became familiar with Family Programs and re-

alized how much of an impact the opportunity to work with this team could

make! I then began as a FAC specialist in the Asheville MFRC and fell in

love with both the Families of the units I was personally involved with as well

as the FP staff in that region. During this time the opportunity to move back

to my home town became available once again and I chose to return to

the Raleigh area to be closer to my Family and to join the team here at the

Raleigh MFRC and again I am working with a team that genuinely cares

and strives to make a difference in the lives of our Military Families!

Meet the FAC

Mark Woolbright

FAC Network Coordinator

Hi, my name is Earlene Capps. I am married to Donnie

Capps and have 3 daughters, Holly, Kelsey, and Syd-

ney who passed away in 1995 at the age of 2 years

old. I taught kindergarten in Goldsboro for 9 years and I

am a member of Center Stage. I won 2 awards playing

the role of Ma Bailey in “It’s A Wonderful Life”, but am

most famous for my role in “The Dixie Swim Club.”

I started working with Family Programs in January as an

Administrative Assistant at the NCNG Military Family Re-

source Center in Raleigh. It is wonderful to finally work

with people who are as patriotic as I am. I just became

a FAC Specialist this June. I am looking forward to what

this job entails and how I can make a difference and

contribution to everyone I come in contact with.

My name is Lisa Faison. Recently, I accepted a Family Assistance Specialist

position with the NCNG Family Programs Raleigh MFRC. Although I am new

to this position, I am not new to the NC National Guard. For 4 years, I have

been actively supporting the organization and its members in various posi-

tions. I am excited about having the chance to grow with a program that is

expanding their efforts and ties with our Military Families. As a new member

of the team, I am dedicated to the program, the Soldiers of the NC Na-

tional Guard and their Families. Our Resource Centers are finding ways to

support each and every Soldier and Family. It is wonderful to be a part of

this meaningful program, its expansion and continual growth.
