Entry # 2READY-TO-WEAR
Alexander McQueen Sarah Burton was definitely in the hot seat as she was inter-viewed by Women’s Wear Daily about the pressure of her first big runway show for the late Alexan-der McQueen. Burton Discussed how she added a bit of herself to the collection and called herself “ a bit lighter than McQueen.” For her first runwat collection the execution was definitely a success in my opinion. Key points from the collection included the unique use of feather butterflies and black leaves. In a way each piece claimed something from nature. Although McQueen was known for being somewhat dark and discomforting in his collections, Burton decided to soften things up a bit. Sarah knows all to well that she has quite a journey ahead of her, but it is going to be exciting her continue to perfect what a legend has put his entire life into, create a new vision for the future to come.

RETAIL ANALYSIS
Sears Holding Corp is about to pursue a more “ trendier” route and create an alliance with retail icon Forever 21 to a store -within-a-store because of the extra space in most of its stores around the country. Sears is hoping to gain customers, particularly younger customers , and increase revenue. The company is also hoping to add a bit more fashion liveliness that it has been seeking for quite some time now. Sears making a move like this means that not only will increase its revenue, but it will gain more service that the retailer has been lacking. Forever 21 would definitely help sears bring in the more younger audience, and bring an alliance together with another retailer to bring benefit for both stores. Sears will be able to bring in more customers and Forever 21 will have lower rent to pay. The planning would involve having Forever 21 take up about 15% of the space in a Sears in California. Forever 21 will have its own entrance , or customers can enter through Sears. Outer forces would include economics and finance. Sears is hoping that this move will bring in more rental revenue. Also by Sears and Forever 21 joining together ,Sears will be able to distin-guish itself from other companies and have an advantage.

It is said today that fashion is losng its exclusivity and becoming “too disposable”. Its all about the customer wanting quantity over quality now. Consumers are no longer in classic pieces, but in fash-ion fads that that go out of style as soon as you get them. The images I have shown above are the cur-rent trends for women, men and in beauty. For women’s apparel mass market stores like Forever 21 and H&M see the trends from the runway then that’s where they get inspiration from and start selling clothing that is “runway inspired”. By the time the trends move down to the mass market level then the designers would have moved on to another trend already. In my opinion its an endless cylce that will con-tinue as long as high fashion is easily accessible.
