Navin Waqar talks about Film “Josh”

Navin Waqar, renowned for her work on TV and Radio, is making her debut in film-making with Josh

the film (English Title: Against The Grain) which hasbeen showcased at the 14th Mumbai Film Fest

Josh is being screened in the world cinema category of the festival and has already made

headlines both in Pakistan and across the border.

Q1: You have so far restricted yourself to TV and radio assignments: what inspired you to say yes to the film project Josh?Initially I was not interested in doing a film project because that’s is a whole different ballgame but when I read the script, it was the message of Josh that led me to say yes. It speaks of important issues and seemed like more than just a film for the sake of film.

Q2: What for you is the Josh of Josh? The ability to take a stand. I think that’s something a lot of people don’t tend to do out of fear or suppression. Josh for me is all about fighting the power.

Q3: What can you tell us about your character in Josh?I play Ayla who is a reporter for a youth channel and is friend’s with Aamina’s character.

Q4: You were working with a truly stellar cast including Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Khalid

Malik, Parveen Akber and more. How was the experience filming with these seasoned ac-tors?I have been lucky to have worked with quite a few sea-soned actors in the two projects I did before Josh so this was an added bonus. It was a wonderful experience. When you are around people who know the industry better than you because of their experiences, there is so much to learn. It was a relief to see how everyone was so profes-sional and humble at the same time.

Q5: Do you plan to do another film after Josh, or was this a one off?At the moment no. I am not really racing towards doing films, I am very happy with the work I have been doing on TV. If there will be a film, I will be more than just an actor in it hopefully; maybe a producer or writer as well.

Q6: You tend to be extremely selective about the work you do on TV: are you only interested in particular types of roles?

8 In

terv

iew

Page 9: Fashioncentral volume 4th

Not at all. I take up roles that are a challenge and have something to say. I want to be able to do every role as an actor; I don’t want to be a type cast. The character has to be appealing or challenging for me to say yes to it.

Q7: How did you feel when you found out that Josh was being screened at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival, one of the region’s most prestig-ious festivals? It felt wonderful and I am very excited as to how it will be received. I am hoping it will make strong waves as a film in whole and that the message in Josh will be appreciated.

Q8: Have you seen Josh on the big screen yet: are you anxious, worried, nervous about watching yourself on the big screen?I haven’t seen it on big screen yet and honestly I am slightly nervous about it. I am always a bit nervous when it comes to watching myself on TV as well because I always feel like I could’ve done better and then beat myself up about it.

Q9: How was the mood on the set?It was professional and a lot of fun! The entire cast and crew was like one huge family, always laughing or playing music or singing or cracking jokes and at the same time get-ting work done. There was never a dull moment. We worked long hours but everyone on set was in such amazing spirits that it never seemed boring.

Q10: How was the experience of working with first time film-producer and director Iram Parveen Bilal?Iram is a sweetheart and a wonderful human being. She has this amazing energy about herself and is absolutely clear on what she wants which is a dream come true for an actor. Her pos-itivity is contagious and what I admire about her is that she was constantly on her feet running around, making Josh happen. It was quite honestly her passion for Josh that got me onboard this project.

Humaima Malick Wins South Asia Rising Star Film Award

Mehreen Syed Encounters A Road Accident

The awards were part of 9th annual South Asian International Film Festival; the largest entertainment gala related to South Asian entertainment industry to be held in the United States, organised in collaboration with HBO.

to participate in the singing competition in connection with

also acheived success in several other college competitions.

He met Goher- a guitarist who became his future Jal band-mate, at his college. Together they practiced and started doing mini-concerts for

their friends. Atif used to perform on the songs of Junoon and Strings at

these concerts. They started performing in their college,

She has already played the lead female roles in two consecutive top grossers, Ghajini (2005) which is her biggest commercial success to date, and the action comedy Varalaru (2006). Asin is now regarded as the most prominent leading actress of South Indian cinema.

Asin’s first Tamil language film was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, in which she co-starred with Jayam Ravi. Asin reprised her role from her film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi for the remake, which saw her portraying a Malayali girl instead of the Tamil girl in the original.

The movie subsequently went on to become one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema during 2004, intro-ducing Asin to Tamil film industry. After a brief return to Telugu films, to do Chakram, her first failure as a senior artiste, she appeared in Ullam Ketkumae.

The venture which provided the breakthrough for Asin to become the leading South Indian actress was her Tamil film, Ghajini. The film, co-starring Surya and Nay-antara and directed by A. R. Murugadoss, helped Asin secure the Tamil Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

The following Diwali in 2005, Asin had two big releases in Sivakasi and Majaa. Despite the latter becoming an average grosser, the former also went on to be a suc-cessful venture at the box office, despite Asin’s poorly etched out role.

The following year, Asin opted for a less hectic sched-ule, becoming more choosy with her roles, rejecting several opportunities in the process. Her long-delayed venture, Varalaru opposite Ajith Kumar, became the biggest blockbuster of 2006 in Tamil cinema, after releasing for Diwali 2006. The film’s hero-centric plot retreated Asin to the sidelines, but her role was well acclaimed by critics.

Her movie with Salman Khan, Ready was released on 3 June 2011, Visible was chemistry between her and Salman which was noticed and praised by the critics. As for her fans, they adored her super chic looks and really spiced up clothes with generous necklines, micro-minis and hot pants.” Asin has just completed filming for Khiladi 786, which will reunite her with her Housefull 2 costar, Akshay Kumar, which is set for release in December 2012.

2012 Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition

2012 Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition

Page 50: Fashioncentral volume 4th

Starting at the end of November 2012, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Por-sche AG, Stuttgart, is offering a particularly exclusive and elegant version of the Panamera: the Platinum Edition. The elegant special edition Panamera, available as Panamera 4 and Panamera Diesel, stands out thanks to their subtle, independent design features in platinum silver metallic combined with expanded standard features and exclusive details.

The lower half of the side view mirrors, the air-inlet grille lamellas, the air vent grille on the side designed specifi-cally for the turbo model, the trim on the trunk lid and the rear diffuser are all in platinum silver metallic. The interplay with one of the Edition’s five exterior finish colours results in an especially harmonious and elegant appearance. Solid exterior colours are offered in black or white as well as the options of metallic basalt black, metallic carbon grey and metallic mahogany lacquer finishes. The black glossy finish used for the side window strips creates a convincing overall exterior appearance.

Delivering considerable benefits to the customer, many frequently requested extras are now coming as standard equipment with the Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition. These include the Bi-Xenon main headlights and front parking assist. The automatically dimming interior and

exterior mirrors reduce glare from traffic behind you, and the 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy wheels with the red, black and gold Porsche crest highlight the sporty elegance of the vehicle.

The new black/luxor beige bi-colour combination also creates an especially sumptuous interior ambience. Exclusively for the Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition a part-leather interior package comes as standard, with a full leather package optionally available. Compared to the previous bi-colour detailing, the new bi-colour combination patterns have been revised. Thus, along with the upper part of the dashboard and the door trim, the footwell and the back of the front seats as well as the loadspace cover are in black, while the remainder of the interior is in luxor beige. Other highlights include the standard sport design steering wheel and the dis-tinctive Porsche crest on the front and rear headrests as well as the in-signia “Platinum Edition” on the front door trim strips.

Bag-a-liciousIt is generally considered that bags we wear during fall and winter should be simpler, darker and more practical. But that doesn’t mean they have to be boring, does it? See the list of amazing Fall/ Winter bag trends and get inspired!

Fur BagsThey are not very practical and are hardly versatile but no one can deny fur bags look luxurious, and that’s what many of us would give everything for. Fall/ Winter fur bags come made of various types of fur, there is genuine and fake fur, short-haired and long-haired, colorful and even printed fur. Besides, you can find plenty of bag styles which can come made of fur or trimmed with it.

Bright ColorsDespite the fact color is not a priority when bags for fall and winter seasons are created, designers do like to add some diversity to their collections. So, don’t get surprised if you see a couple of really bright handbags in a rather monotone range.Roomy Bags.

Roomy bags have always been popular with women with busy schedules, those who have to do a few things and be at different places at the same time. If you are the one who has to work, attend a dance class, take your kids to school and fulfill a great number of other daily duties, you will be glad to know that your huge bag that holds everything you

might need during a day is now trendy.

Tiny BagsYes, a contrast again. Designers like to play with us. Nevertheless, tiny bags are perfect

for going out, romantic dates and other occasions you need to have just a phone and

lipstick. Some bags are just small while others are really tiny, like those in Dolce & Gabbana Fall/ Winter

trend collection.

Shoulder Bags. They have been very trendy during Spring/ Summer 2012 and seem to have transitioned to Fall/ Winter. But shoulder bags didn’t come without changes. They have become smaller and have more defined geometric shapes and lines than before.

Chic Leather. Leather is in fashion now, no matter whether you like it or not. But if you can’t imagine yourself wearing genu-ine leather, try fake one instead. There are a lot of at-

tractive pieces made of fake leather now and some look even better than those made of real skins.

Cluthes. Clutches are not actually a Fall/ Winter trend. They are a universal trend, which appeared a few years ago and is still very popular with fashionistas. Simpler and more el-egant clutches can be worn on the daily basis while those embellished with crystals and sequins or adorned with embroidery are for special occasions only.As you can see the number of Fall/ Winter bag trends is much lower than those for Spring/ Summer 2012. However, there is still a lot to choose from. Good luck, our dear readers! Stay with us and get fresh information about fashion and trends every day!

In foreign policy, Obama ended U.S. military involvement in the Iraq War, increased troop levels in Afghanistan, signed the New STARTarms control treaty with Russia, ordered U.S. military involvement in Libya, and ordered the military operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. In May 2012, he became the first sitting U.S. president to publicly support legalizing same-sex marriage.

Presidential Campaigns

On February 10, 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States. The choice of the an-nouncement site was viewed as symbolic because it was also where Abraham Lincoln delivered his historic “House

Divided” speech in 1858. Obama emphasized issues of rapidly ending the Iraq War, increasing energy independ-ence, and providing universal health care, in a campaign that projected themes of “hope” and “change”.

During both the primary process and the general election, Obama’s campaign set numerous fundraising records, particularly in the quantity of small donations. On June 19, 2008, Obama became the first major-party presidential candidate to turn down public financing in the general election since the system was created in 1976.

John McCain was nominated as the Republican candidate and the two engaged in three presidential debates in Sep-tember and October 2008. On November 4, Obama won the presidency with 365 electoral votes to 173 received by McCain. Obama won 52.9% of the popular vote to

McCain’s 45.7%. He became the first African American to be elected president. Obama

delivered his victory speech before hundreds of thousands of support-ers in Chicago’s Grant Park.

On April 4, 2011, Obama an-nounced his re-election cam-paign for 2012. As the candidate

for this august office he ran virtually unopposed in the

Democratic Party presidential primaries, and on April 3, 2012, Obama had secured the 2778 convention delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination. At the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, former President Bill Clinton formally nomi-nated Obama and Joe Biden as the Democratic Party candidates for president and vice president in the general election, in which their main opponents were Republicans Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, and Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.

On November 6, 2012, Obama won 332 delegates to the Electoral College, exceeding the 270 delegates required to be elected to a second term as president Obama became the first Democratic president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to twice win the majority of the popular vote. President Obama addressed supporters and volunteers at Chicago’s McCormick Place after his reelection and said: “Tonight you voted for action, not politics as usual. You elected us to focus on your jobs, not ours. And in the com-ing weeks and months, I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties.”

The world looks up to him for putting a stop to unneces-sary American intervention in the affairs of other states and the optimism is that he will forget episodes like the Osama bin Laden one, and also fulfills his commitment to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and bring peace to the region.
