Maybe you noticed that we didn’t do much on Sunday evenings in June and July. Be-
tween camps, mission trips, and vacations we’ve been pretty scattered. So guess what!
We’re going to do two Sunday evenings in August.
August 18 — Lord’s Supper Service at 6:00 pm
August 25 — Welcome service for the Barnetts in the sanctuary at 6:00 p.m. followed by a
reception for them in the Family Life Center.
Here’s what we’re going to do for the reception. We’re making it an end of summer Ice Cream
Social. If you have an ice cream freezer and the ability to make homemade ice cream, please whip it
up and bring it on August 25. We are also going to be doing a “gift card pounding” for the Bar-
netts. If you’re able, please purchase some kind of gift card for the Barnetts. It could be for a restau-
rant, Walmart, Kroger, whatever. We’ll also have a basket for cash gifts if you want to do that in-
stead. Let’s welcome the Barnetts warmly as they begin their work among us.
Part of our mission to Hot Springs is to prayer-walk all the schools in the county on the Saturday
before schools open. We’ll be doing that on August 17. Contact people for each school have been
enlisted. You can sign up at Mission Central. Can you give an hour of your time at 8:30 Saturday
morning, August 17, and ask God’s blessing, protection, and glory in each school? What an oppor-
tunity to pray for educators and students! Let’s do it again.
This Sunday we continue our Summer Songs series by thinking together about making space for God
in our lives. See you then.
Your Pastor,
John

PRAYER Walking…
Our schools in Garland County August 17, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Calling ALL church members. Everyone asks how they can get involved in
local missions and this is the perfect place. We annually walk around the
schools in Garland County praying for the year, the teachers, the students, the
safety of our children and we will do it again on Saturday, August 17th. All
you have to do is show up at the school of your choice at the designated place
at 8:30 AM. It usually takes about an hour. Someone told me once “all I can
do is pray!” What an understatement, because without prayer our efforts are
for naught. It’s not the “all you can do” thing, but the most important thing
you can do. We have felt and heard the results of our past prayer efforts, so I
encourage you to mark your calendar NOW and commit to come with us to
pray for our schools and children. You do not need to contact anyone neces-
sarily, but feel free to do so. A church our size with the number of teachers
and children should cover the school yards with our feet as we demonstrate the
power of prayer for our city. What a great opportunity to show your children
how much you believe in the power of prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Ken
Wheatley
