As a new Benefits Eligible employee you are entitled to participate in the Jackson Health System Benefits Plan effective the first day of the month following 60 days of employment.
You are required to enroll in your benefits through ESS within 45 days of your hire date or change of status date. Changes will not be allowed after the 45 days, unless you have experienced a qualified “Change in Status Event”. The Benefits Department will be conducting the Annual Open Enrollment for the 2020 Plan Year at the end of the year, where you will be able to make changes to your benefits.
If you do not complete your enrollment within 45 days of you hire date, you will be enrolled in the Jackson First HMO Plan, Employee only.

How do the plans differ? There are some significant differences between the plans, especially when it comes to withdrawals. Consider these differences when deciding which plan will suit you best.
403(b) 457(b)
Withdrawals prior to age 59½ may be subject to a 10% federal early withdrawal tax penalty, unless an exception applies. Unlike the 403(b) plan, the 10% federal early withdrawal tax
penalty for withdrawals prior to age 59½ does not apply to distributions from 457(b) plans except on amounts rolled into the plan from non-457(b) plans — including IRAs.
Less stringent hardship withdrawal restrictions while you are employed.
More stringent unforeseeable emergency withdrawal restrictions while you are employed.
