He is also experienced in telecommunications work and sports law, working with a number of international sportsmen. As part of his practice, Albert has been at the forefront of Gibraltar’s development as a real world alternative to the world’s established funds jurisdictions with a wealth of experience in the establishment of experienced investor funds for a variety of diverse and innovative applications. James Tipping heads the Finance Centre Department within the Ministry of Finance reporting to the Hon P R Caruana QC, Chief Minister and Minister of Finance. The Department is responsible for advising on all financial services policy, liaising with the private sector in Gibraltar, financial services legislation and co-ordination of communication relating to strategic initiatives involving the IMF, OECD, EU and other financial services matters. The Department also co-ordinates applications for high-net-worth tax residence in Gibraltar by individuals. James, who is Gibraltarian, spent 14 years working in capital markets in London, New York and Brazil before returning to Gibraltar. Marcus Killick is Chief Executive Officer of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, Gibraltar’s financial services regulator. From 1998 to 2003 he was a Director of the International Regulatory Services Team of KPMG, based in the UK. He has also previously held positions as Deputy Chief Executive of the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission, and Head of Banking, Trusts and Investment Services at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority. Marcus is an English barrister by training and also a member of the New York State Bar. Javier de Mendieta has been Chief Executive Officer of Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch Private Bank Limited Gibraltar since March 2005. Prior to this he held the position of Managing Director Zurich Office for Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch and was involved in defining the European Wealth Management Initiative for the Group. Javier had previously worked for many years at UBS in various senior positions, including as regional market manager and as CEO of the Spanish private banking unit UBS España, S.A. He studied business and economics in Zurich. Joseph E. (’Melo’) Triay’s career has been extremely varied, although he initially specialised in the Shipping and Admiralty fields. He also has substantial experience in Commercial Litigation, most notably working on various fraud and asset tracing cases involving multi-jurisdictional issues and complicated corporate and private structures. More recently his focus has been directed and concentrated on the Private Client and Wealth Management fields, which now occupy all his professional time. As Managing Partner of Triay & Triay and a Director of Totus he regularly advises private clients and trustees in all aspects of trust, family and estate planning. Thomas Westh Olsen has been Managing Director of Credit Suisse (Gibraltar) Limited since March 2005 and is a member of the Europe, Middle East and Africa management team within the Credit Suisse Private Banking Division. After ten years with Jyske Bank Private Banking in Gibraltar, he established a new Private Banking office for Jyske Bank in France. Thomas started his career at Nordea Bank, Copenhagen, in Commercial Banking from where he progressed to Senior Banking and Wealth Management positions in Scandinavia, Germany and France. A graduate of Copenhagen Business School, he also holds an MBA in Finance from Heriott-Watt University, Edinburgh. He is the Chairman of the Gibraltar Funds and Investment Association and of its Technical Committee, and a member of the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council.
