SUPERSTARS

SUPERSTARS

There’s an energy surrounding us,

drawing people in. We’re the winning IT

team, and everyone enjoys helping

create a win.

On New Year’s Eve 2009 I was in

Galena with friends, and

as we passed these

stairs, I yelled, “Stop the

car!” I do that on

occasion. What I saw

was a perfect photo

moment to illustrate

our journey to become a

National Area. “It’s a

long climb,” I thought.

“It’s a great place for a

group of directors to

someday have a

picture,” I imagined. “I

need to share this vision

with everyone,” I

decided. And the photos

were taken. Watch me

climb these steps in the

next few months, as our

units climb their steps and reach their

production and unit size goals. And the

only way that will happen is if each

consultant in my unit, and each

consultant in all 21 of my units, realizes

she plays a part. Are you willing to step

up and help us finish? You’re an IT GIRL!

Believing that’s why you will,,

Dear Scintillating Superstars,

On the Tuesday before the Great

Face Race, Bess Muntz finished

directorship. On Thursday, Sarah Hagen’s

numbers were in, and her unit was brand

new. At 11:00 am that Saturday, just as

our event was to begin,

the phone rang and

Monica Yard announced

that her production was

done, and one more

unit, #20 was official.

Deb Eisfeller walked up

to the fireplace minutes

later and told us that by

that afternoon, she too

would be a director, #21!

What a whirlwind

February was, and how

slowly the first 4 days of

March passed, until we

got the call at 10:45 that

night, and we were

officially invited into

NIQ! (National Area in

Qualification)

We now have 4 months of strenuous

requirements to achieve. Are we up to

the task? You should have been there that

February 27th at the GREAT FACE

RACE, and you’d have known for sure that

it’s a done deal! There were about 120

women there, crammed into my living

room. I think 47 were guests. Some had

already joined our units, and others were

thinking about it, and a few have joined us

now to become part of “IT”. True!

Each month I will feature a different Future Martin Area Director in our newsletter.

Directors have all gone through many of the same issues that you have or may go through in your life and career.

Director Name: Kathy Wickler

Former Occupation: Manager of a Bakery Deli

City/State: Byron, Il

Joined Mary Kay: 1992

Debuted as a director: 1998

# of months of driving free: 149 months No car payments! 12 1/2 years of driving FREE!

Highest commission check in one month: $8,885.00

What was the sequence of events that brought you into the company? (recruiting layering process) My first Mary Kay facial was when I was right out of high school. My girlfriend had a party and I went because I always had problem skin– oily and a lot of acne. When I tried the I fell in love with them. I spent part of my graduation money on the basic skin care set. At that time it was only $25! I remember the consultant saying that Mary Kay built her company on God first, family second and career third, and I thought that was great, so it was always in the back of my mind. I had picked up products here and there from different consultants. Fast forward to kids in preschool... I met Lynn my consultant through our children and was excited that she was a consultant, so I had someone to get my products from. Lynn asked me to attend meetings with her, but I was too busy with work, kids, school, church. Lynn invited me to her home to meet Jeanie who was coming to Byron. I said yes and met with Jeanie the day after Christmas. I was so intrigued with her and with what this company had to offer. I signed my agreement but told her to hold it until I talked to my husband Kerry. I went home that day from Lynn’s and felt like Cinderella dreaming of going to the ball. I was excited. Of course my husband said, “Do whatever you want!” I joined!

Why did you join? I saw Mary Kay as an opportunity. I was unhappy working as the manager of a Bakery Deli. I loved the catering but the long hours were hard on me and my family. I thought about school but didn’t know how I could fit that in along with everything else and we needed my pay check. I felt trapped. Mary Kay was something that I could work into our busy lives at my own pace. Plus it looked like fun. I told my husband that I just wanted a job where I could wear cute clothes and not smell like a donut or fried chicken !

Why did you want to become a director? At first, I wanted to be a director because it looked like fun! Another reason was my team and I wouldn’t have to travel 1½ hours each way to Jeanie’s meetings every Tuesday, we would attend mine! Plus it was an opportunity to really help and lead my team members in their business and help mold and shape their skills. I found that being a director gave me a whole new group of friends. There is nothing better than the sisterhood of Mary Kay Sales Directors!

Has there been a dark season? Yes. This might sound silly but when I was a Red Jacket and had 3 active team members I felt so proud of having a team and really felt good about myself and my business. Mary Kay always said if you are not moving forward, you are sliding backwards and that’s what happened. I lost my Red Jacket. I felt like a failure, I was embarrassed and my heart was hurt that my team members were not going on this Mary Kay ride with me. There was a Mary Kay quarterly brunch coming up and I wasn’t going to go. I thought people would talk. But Jeanie helped me overcome the thoughts, I went and felt better. What if I had stopped at that point? My life would be so different.

THIS MONTH’S ISSUE OF:

IF SHE CAN, I CAN!

Page 11: February 2010 Newsletter

Page 11

What is the one thing that was difficult for you or you were afraid of in this business? I was afraid of asking people for a facial who I felt were intimidating. I didn’t want to feel rejected. I had low self confidence, and it made me nervous With Jeanie’s encouragement I was able to step out of my comfort zone. Do I still feel intimidated? Sometimes– yes. However, I have learned that the nos won’t hurt me. I also believe that if you have a goal it doesn’t matter what they say, you just keep asking until you get a yes!

During what time period did you have the greatest growth of income and what was the growth? My greatest growth of income was the year that we did our very first Unit Club! This was due to the fact that I had a lot of office help and someone cleaned my house. I was able to let go of some things, so I could do things that I enjoyed– be with people!

What do you attribute the growth? My second biggest growth spurt is right now! I feel that I have a lot of consultants on the verge of breaking though and reaching their goals. My consultants are excited and want to help this Future National Area and in the process great things are happening!!! Our unit will be a PINK CADILLAC Unit by March 31st! We are ding dang excited! We had 11 Star Consultants, 2 on target for cars and a new offspring unit. My check for February was $8,885. I LOVE Mary Kay!

What advice would you give a consultant who wants to be a Director? Build a strong customer base through the products. Great customers turn into great team members. Attend every meeting and event and participate in all the contests. You never know when you might hear that one thing that you need to take to your goal. Each contest will help you get out of your comfort zone and grow. In Mary Kay we are so blessed to be able to change and grow into the person that we want to be.

My Dream Corner….. I’m dreaming of what it will feel

like on April 1st, knowing we have finished our first month

of NIQ! We’re moving up the stairway to become a

National Area. In 3 months everyone in the MK world

will recognize us as the “IT” National Area. How many

Charter IT girls will there be?

Could we ever reach 2000?
