WWPL Annual Report 2011
2011 has come to a close and the Westfield Washington Public Library is lookingtoward 2012 with great enthusiasm. We continue to face financial challenges asthe property tax caps and the decrease in assessed values in our service districthave again decreased the revenues for the library. Below are just a fewhighlights of what we accomplished in 2011.
♦ The library newsletter went electronic in 2011. We continue to provide thenewsletter to those who prefer a mailed copy and have hard copiesavailable at the library.
♦ Evergreen Indiana is an invaluable asset that allows access to over six
million items and nearly 100 libraries throughout Indiana. The HamiltonCounty Reciprocal Borrowing program also provides our patrons evengreater access to materials.
♦ The library received a grant from the Institute of Museum and LibraryServices to purchase two child-friendly workstations. These workstationsincrease Internet availability at the library, as well as providing a child-friendly browser that is also available for download from our website touse at home.
♦ Our dedicated volunteers provide invaluable support to the library, freeingup the staff to better serve our patrons. Thank you for the countless hours
they have given to the library.
♦ I would like to thank the Friends of the Westfield Library for their continued support throughout the year through their fundraising efforts. The Friends of the Library fund the incentives for the Children’s and AdultSummer Reading programs. They also supplement other programmingcosts and any special purchases the library may need that are notcovered by the operating budget. In 2011, they contributed $1,500 topurchase two LCD TVs to display announcements and information aboutlibrary programs.
♦ Finally, I would like to thank the dedicated staff and Library Trustees for
their hard work and continued efforts that make this library a wonderfulasset to the City of Westfield and Washington Township.
The library board, the staff and I continue to look for new and innovative ways toprovide our patrons with quality library services, and I hope the charts we haveprovided will give you an idea of what your library has to offer and how weperformed in 2011.
The Westfield Washington Public Library is looking forward to serving your library service needs for 2012.

January 23, 2012Library Board Working Session
The library board met to discussoptions for space reallocation, expansion, minor refurbishments(i.e. carpet, wall covering, etc.), or whether to do nothing at all to thecurrent facility would be an option.
Information was presented to thelibrary board concerning statisticsfor library services from libraries
our size throughout the state, statistics from 1995 (the last timethere was a renovation), 2000,2005, 2010.
Paul Ewer and Lindsay Fernandezfrom Quantum Architecture wereon hand to answer any questionsfrom the board regardingpreliminary space reallocationinformation that had beendesigned based on the Library’sStrategic plan, past surveyinformation and needs of thelibrary.
This meeting was open to the
public, but it was not a public inputmeeting.
Winter Weather Closings
If Westfield declares asnow emergency thelibrary will be closed. If
the decision is made to close thelibrary due to other weather conditions, the closing will be
reported to all local TV stationsand be posted on our website andFacebook page.
This is the fourth issue of thelibrary’s monthly newsletter that isbeing distributed to patrons viaemail.
The newsletter is still available atthe library, on our website and bymail to members of our Friends group, butcutting back on printcopies saves time, money and is a much“greener” option.
The publication, as well as themonthly calendar, is sent via emailto all our patrons with a currentemail address on file, andeveryone that requests it and
provides their email address.Anyone who would like to beincluded on the distribution listmay sign up on our website atwww.wwpl.lib.in.us/newsletter.htm.
We have gone from printing
almost 300 copies and mailingover 100 of those each month, toprinting about 150 and mailing 60of those monthly. With a cost of 57¢ to print each copy and 45¢
postage, the library is saving morethan $100 each month.
