6 Pence Artist SpotlightLUCKY GIRL CERAMICS
6Pence is pleased to feature the work of Lucky Girl Ceranics by KateNelson, from Austin, TX, previously from Carbondale, IL.
It was in college that Kate first learned to make pots. The entire process learning tothrow on the wheel, mastering something so basic as a cylinder and pullingcountless handles, glazing and firing fascinated her. From start to finish sheenjoyed the total control one has; from designing to firing work. As Kate furtheredher studies she stepped farther away from throwing pots, but never forgot thetherapeutic qualities of creating functional work and the knowledge that they’ll beput to good use in peoples homes; serving food & drink, holding items and ondisplay. Kate's work is simple and easy to use and hold. She throws stoneware andthen salt fires, and decorates her pots using wax resist, slips, stains and low firelusters.
