Today’s readings speak to us about eye-opening
experiences…radical insights about who we are
and who Jesus is. Abraham encountered God in
a way that shaped Israel’s future. Peter, James
& John encountered Jesus in a profound way.
Learning who Jesus really is and being shaped
by that knowledge often comes in unexplainable
moments. How wonderful it is when our faith
becomes real and our eyes are opened to new
possibilities!
Jesus took Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray. ----- Luke 9:28
First Reading from Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18
The Lord makes a covenant with Abraham.
Second Reading from Philippians 3:17-4:1 Imitate Paul’s belief in Christ.
Gospel from Luke 9:28b-36
Jesus is transfigured on the mountain.
FEBRUARY 21, 2016 2nd SUNDAY OF LENT
"Jesus in the confessional is not a dry cleaner: it is an encounter with Jesus, who waits for us just as we are. Is going to confession like a torture session? No! It is going to praise God, because I, a sinner, have been saved by Him. And is He waiting to beat me? No, he waits with tenderness to forgive me. And if tomorrow I do the same? Go again, and go and go and go. He always waits for us.” - Pope Francis. Confessions at our parish will be on March 8 (Tuesday) 2:00pm-4:00pm & 7pm-9pm.
OFFICE OF VOCATIONS
The office of vocations is hosting a
COME AND SEE WEEKEND
at St. Augustine’s seminary from Friday, Feb 26, 7 pm to Sunday, Feb 28 at 1:30 pm.
There will be time to pray, to learn what seminary formation is about and time to interact and socialize with the seminarians &
priests of the seminary. This weekend offers opportunities for communal prayer, mass,
adoration & confession.
For more information call 416-968-0997 or email vocations @archtoronto.org.
On Monday, March 07, 2016 at 1.00PM, The Catholic Women's League is hosting the Mary Matthews Public Speaking Contest, which
encourages young children from our parish schools in grades 7 and 8 to speak in front of an
audience. The winner will represent their school at the Regional level. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support them.
The CWL General Meeting will be held on Tuesday February 23rd at 7.00 p.m. in the North lobby. All members are asked to make every effort to attend. Thank you.
The RCIA program is starting a new, shortened version especially
designed for the many ‘non-Catholic Christians’ who attend our
Masses on a regular basis and are already catechised in the basics
of the Christian faith.
We are personally inviting you to these sessions where you can
find-out what “WE” Catholics are all about and what we actually
teach. You might be pleasantly surprised.
If interested, please leave your name and phone number at the
office and you will be contacted by one of our catechists.
SHARELIFE Working wonders for those entering the priesthood... “I am aware that what is given to me here is because of the generosity of
many benefactors, including ShareLife, to whom I am very grateful. Last year, I graduated from Philosophy at St. Philip Neri Oratory with Summa Cum Laude, and this would not have been possible without the contribution of many benefactors. I am sure that whatever is given to me is for the sake of the mission that the Lord is preparing for me, and I thank ShareLife for their generous contribution to the work that God has prepared for me.” Simo Ibrahim, Redemptoris Mater seminarian. At ShareLife-funded agencies such as Serra House, St. Augustine’s and Redemptoris Mater Seminaries, individuals undergo extensive theological education and practical field training. Through ShareLife, you are helping to sustain vocations for the priesthood and inspire discernment for God’s call. Last year ShareLife helped support 80 seminarians in their formation studies.
Sunday March 13, 2016 is ShareLife Sunday Please give generously. You can work wonders!
