The Holy Father speaks… A hard heart is a “closed” heart, “that does not want to grow, that defends itself, that is closed in on itself”. In life this can happen because of many factors; as, for example, a “great sorrow. And whoever remains in this “bad attitude” is “fainthearted”; and a “cowardly heart is perverse”: We can ask ourselves: Do I have a hard heart, do I have a closed heart? Do I let my heart grow? Am I afraid that it will grow? And we always grow with trials, with difficulties, we grow as we all grow as children: we learn to walk [by] falling. From crawling to walking, how many times we have fallen! But we grow through difficulties. Hardness. And, what amounts to the same thing, being closed. But who remains in this? “Who are they, father?” They are the fainthearted. Faintheartedness is an ugly attitude in a Christian, he lacks the courage to live. He is closed off.

Homebound Parishioners Do you have a family member or know a parishioner that is homebound and

not able to come to Mass? We are a parish, and no one is

forgotten.

Please have a caretaker call the rectory (718-236-0909) to schedule

a visit from a Eucharistic Minister so the homebound parishioner can

receive the Eucharist.

Please note someone must be home with the homebound at the first visit.

Thank You, Deacon John

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

ASPECIALREMEMBRANCE No matter when, no matter where, when someone special passes away we would like to create a lasting memorial for that person. Flowers fade, kind words are forgotten, but closure is still needed. At St. Joseph Chapel we offer a perpetual remembrance item for families. It is a plaque made of beautiful colored solid bronze, bearing the name of the deceased, a symbol or a prayer such as "Rest in Peace". The plaques are placed on view in a beautiful chapel of their own. Families can visit the chapel anytime to pray for their loved ones resting there or elsewhere. Their remembrance will remain in our beautiful Basilica forever. For more information visit St. Joseph Chapel or call our of ice at 718-236- 0909.

LIGHT A CANDLE FOR A

LOVED ONE OR FOR YOURSELF Many people like to keep a candle lit in Church for a loved one or even for a special intention. You can do the same by contacting the Rectory and ordering one. You can order it for a week, a month, six months or a year. Your name can be placed on the candle if you wish. There is an offering requested for this and you can arrange it by stopping at the rectory when you have a chance or calling us. We will send a reminder to you to see if you wish to renew it in the future.
