To all Saint George Parishioners
who participated & supported
Christmas Eve at San Pablo
Mission in Beryl...
Twenty-five parishioners from
Saint George Catholic Church
celebrated Mass with the
residents. They set up the gifts
and enjoyed a wonderful
Christmas meal of tamales,
burritos, beans, rice, chile verde
and other specialties after Mass.
Forty jackets were given to the
children by the Knights of
Columbus and Saint George
Catholic Women’s Group. Over
100 plush blankets, toys, games, coloring books, knit hats, scarves, gloves and
socks were given out to 30 families. Also given: a sewing machine for the
Mission quilt ministry, and a monetary collection of $1,338.
Christ’s heart was kind and gentle. He always thought of others. Thank you all
for fulfilling this mission with your time, talent and treasure. As you can see
by these pictures, the people were grateful and appreciative of your many gifts.
God Bless You All!

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
God made all things good. Within our world today, evil
appears so often with the threat of destroying that which is
good and blessed by God. Evil lurks everywhere. We are
called to avoid evil and help others do the same. Under the
guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit, we can
overcome evil with good.
Evil seeks to harm and destroy. Pure, true, selfless love never
fails to do good. It overcomes attempts to hurt and destroy,
sometimes by speaking out against those forces that support
wrongdoing in our world. Love endures forever.
On Sunday, January 20, Dixie State University hosted an
MLK Interfaith Service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
and his fight for tolerance and equality. It was sponsored by
the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, Multicultural &
Inclusion Center. I offered the following prayer.
“Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream.
Many of us today dream of a world where we can live in
peace and harmony with each other. Yet, we know for this
dream to become reality, it must be lived daily within our
own hearts. And so we pray:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
When I witness hatred or prejudice, let me exemplify
Your love;
When feelings have been hurt or injured, let me offer
forgiveness;
When there is doubt or lack of faith, let me share Your
Word;
Where there is the loneliness of despair, let me offer
hope;
Where there is darkness in life, let me be a beacon of
Your light;
And where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
O Divine Master,
May I not so much seek to be consoled, as to offer
consolation to others.
If I am misunderstood, let me remember so also were You.
Let me not seek as much to be loved, as to be love to
others.
Lord, God, it is in giving of ourselves that we truly
receive;
It is in forgiving that we, too, are forgiven.
May we then, Lord, abandon our own will, embracing
Your Holy Will instead, as we strive to bring Peace and
Harmony to this world in which we live.
Amen.”

propios corazones. Y así oramos:
Señor, haz de mí un instrumento de tu paz;
ejemplificar tu amor;
permíteme ofrecer perdón;
Tu Palabra;
ofrecer esperanza;
Tu luz;

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos
The 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time / 4º Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario
We often fail to value our own relatives and
acquaintances because we know them
intimately, in their low moments and their
mistakes. When we ask others what exceptional
people they know, they tell us about individuals
outside their own family and circle of
acquaintances. Familiarity can breed contempt; we often
tend to overlook greatness in the people we know best.
Because of this natural prejudice, Jesus did not perform
miracles in front of His neighbors. He understood that no
prophet is accepted in his own native community.
When He visited the synagogue in His hometown, Jesus
reminded His neighbors of the miracles of Elijah and
Elisha, Hebrew prophets who found greater faith in
natives of other lands than they found in their own
Israelites. His Jewish listeners became angry when He
pointed out that God had shown favor to Gentiles rather
than Jews. They believed the Jews were God’s chosen
people, His chosen race. To them, Jesus’ words sounded
like an insult to the Jewish people.
This is where the persecution of Jesus begins, in His
hometown. Jesus provoked His neighbors with His words
and that is why they tried to kill Him. The Word that
engenders life became, for those hard-hearted people,
words that engender death.
Like Jesus’ neighbors, we often prefer to hear words that
flatter our ears. This makes it impossible for Jesus’
message to reach our inner selves to the depths of our
hearts.
The missionary or prophet will always be subject to
criticism from within and without. He will always be in an
awkward position, since by denouncing oppression,
injustice and selfishness he will inevitably offend
individuals within his own family and community. We
must always be ready not only for Palm Sunday, but also
for the Good Friday of our apostolic lives.
Normalmente valoramos poco a nuestros familiares y
errores.
no debemos dejarnos confundir por una o por otra;
pasó a Jesús.

Do You Have Little Free Time But Would Like To
Help Your Church?
Would you like to help your Church, but have very little
free time? Join us to count the weekly collections.
We meet at 7:45 am on Monday mornings in the Scanlan
Building. Counting the collection is a group effort of 5 or
more people and most Mondays we are finished in about
2 hours.
We have teams established so that most volunteers have
only a once-a-month commitment. Currently, we have a
need for more volunteers on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Mondays
of each month.
If you are good at counting money or have a background
in banking or retail, you are a perfect fit for counting –
but experience is NOT necessary.
If you would like to give it a try, please contact Shari

ANNOUNCEMENTS and EVENTS
In affirmation of January being Pro-Life month a group of
parishioners—about 30 or so—joined together on the 20th,
to pray the scriptural rosary and say other prayers for the
protection of the unborn. We also sang a few songs to the
Blessed Mother. It was beautiful and inspiring. This will
be an annual event, so prepare to join us next year. Many
thanks to all the people that were there this year for the
babies.
