Always popular, with low denomination copper coins a genuine collector favourite, the 1966-91 1c and 2c series is perhaps the most difficult decimal collection to assemble.
With so many years having passed since the 1c and 2c were introduced in 1966, and the denominations withdrawn from circulating currency exactly twenty years ago in 1991, the difficulty in obtaining each and every date is not surprising. Virtually all of the early 1c and 2c dates are tough-to-find in superior grade, with the Melbourne Mint 1968 1c (valued at A$28) and Perth Mint
1968 2c (worth A$65) genuinely scarce today. Providing another barrier to compiling a complete collection, the 1c & 2c series comprises several dates that were not issued for circulation. Collectors never had the chance to secure the 1986 or 1991 1c dates from change, nor did they have the opportunity to stash away the 2c coins dated 1986, 1987, 1990 or 1991.
