Those are words I have heard often over the last month . Arriving on January 2nd as The Chamber’s new Executive Director, I have never felt so welcomed . The amaz-ing staff and chamber members have gone out of their way to make my transition from South Carolina to Delaware a smooth one . It’s also been reassuring to hear the positive comments about our staff and programs, as well as your ideas about the benefits you would like to see in the coming year . What is always interesting is the perception one member might have versus another about the same services . At my first Chamber event, one member remarked they usually leave a networking event with a few solid leads . They follow-up, develop the relationships and most often… end up with new business . That’s how it works . From our numerous networking events, The Quiet Resorts Information Center, ribbon cutting ceremonies, free pub-licity, event listings, online platforms and weekly eblasts to money saving programs like “Chamber Perks” and special rates on credit card processing, electricity and small group health insurance, The Chamber is here to support… connect… and empower our members . By now you should have received a brief membership survey to gather feedback not only about your Chamber, but about your thoughts on the business climate, where you see your business headed and how we can better partner with our mem-bers . Our mission of uniting businesses and professionals to achieve together what could not be done alone… has never been more important . As the “new guy” in town, I would value your thoughts and ideas on how we can positively impact your business and become an even more productive partner . Based on your feedback, we will be introducing some new programs to increase the value of your Chamber membership . We will also be working to provide members with more networking opportunities and enhancing events that impact business for our members . We plan to expand the popular Chamber Perks program to benefit more businesses and will announce new initiatives to drive even more visitors to the Information Center to discover all that member businesses have to offer . We are excited for 2013 and all the possibilities that lie ahead . Some may point to fiscal cliffs, debt ceilings, construction projects, the weather and a host of other uncertainties . But for me, the exciting part of leading a chamber like ours is knowing together we can find the creativity and ideas through partnerships to achieve great things . I really believe that . So here’s to a great year, and… Welcome to The Chamber.

IT’S ELECTRIC!
SET YOUR BUSINESS UP FOR 2013
Over the past seven years more than 15% of members have joined one of the Chamber’s electricity cooperative groups . Last year’s group of members saved an esti-mated $93,000 over the course of their 11-month contract . Chamber co-op members were able to lock into long term contracts at a fixed rate per kilowatt hour (kwh) . The rate eliminates demand and capacity charges from appearing on your electric bill . A new group is forming with an application deadline of Friday, March 15, 2013 . Managed by the energy-consulting firm Affinity Energy Management (AEM), the electricity supply needs of the Chamber’s co-op members are combined into one bid . That bid is then merged with other co-op groups managed by AEM . Carefully moni-toring the commodities market, AEM will take the group to bid to secure a favorable rate . The co-op’s longer-term rate insures operating cost stability for your business . The Chamber’s electricity co-op is open to BFACC business members in Delaware and Maryland with commercial electricity service from Delmarva Power . (Home-based businesses, residential accounts and businesses with service through Delaware Coop are ineligible .) Contact Helen at 302-539-2100 ext . 116 or send an e-mail to helen@bethany-fenwick .org to set up a meeting to analyze your electric bills and learn more about this valuable benefit of membership!

Marketing on a Shoestring Budget. February 1 , 2013 | 9am-12pmIt’s a new year and a great time to get all of your marketing strategies and systems in place . It can be overwhelming to know
which tools to use, how to set them up and implement them . But what if you could get it done and have the key components of your marketing organized for the year ahead? What if you could put your marketing systems and strategies to work for you with low or no cost tools? If that sounds like something that would help you as your grow your business in the coming year, then this workshop is for you .
Social Media Success. February 8, 2013 | 9am-12pmThe business landscape has changed and today’s business owner has to stay on the cutting edge when it comes to social media marketing . Your presence and pertinence have to precede profit . But the changes in social media happen at warp speed and as we run our businesses, we find it hard to keep up . need every day for all of your marketing needs • mapping out the content you need for 2013 so you can use it in social media, on

Jan. Connect for Coffee January BAH
Thanks to all the members who took the trip ‘south’ this January, by attending the January Business After Hours at the Orig-inal Greene Turtle in North Ocean City . Members were able to network and sam-ple the great menu at the Turtle . Hopeful-ly you took the opportunity to introduce yourself to David Martin, the Chamber’s new Executive Director . We hope you stopped by spotlight tables: CHEER and WMDT . Thanks again to Steve, Sean and the staff at the Original Greene Turtle for hosting the January BAH . Check out the April/May Currents for a full list of door prizes!
Members who didn’t brave the icy At-lantic on New Year’s Day were able to catch up over a hot cup of coffee at the first networking event of the year at the Artful Bean in downtown Bethany . At the January Connect for Coffee, more than 30 members stopped by and squeezed in some networking and also had the chance to welcome new Executive Director, Da-vid Martin, to the area . If you weren’t able to make this Connect for Coffee, we hope to see you in May . Thanks again to Kim and the staff at the Artful Bean for wel-coming our enthusiastic crowd .
Our chamber members know how to wrap up a year… with strong network-ing! Nearly 60 members met at North-East Seafood Kitchen in Ocean View to learn great tax tips from Tim Butters with Jefferson, Urian, Doane & Sterner P .A . Members enjoyed a delicious buffet breakfast from Chef Ronnie Burkle and the NESK staff . Throughout the presesn-tation, members were quizzed on the tax information that was covered . What bet-ter prize than a gift card to a local mem-ber coffee shop! Congratulations to all the lucky winners that morning . And thanks again to NorthEast Seafood Kitchen for hosting and to our speakers from Jeffer-son, Urian, Doane & Sterner, P .A .
Offer extended through March 31st!

Run, jump, splash into 2013! That’s exactly what 432 brave splashers did at the 17th Annual Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos . Splashers gathered in Bethany Beach to welcome the New Year with a quick (or for some an extended) dip in the icy Atlantic . Some splashers even warmed up by participating in the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foun-dation’s 2nd Annual Hair of the Dog run which preceded the Eskimos event . Congratu-lations to this year’s Iceberg Trophy recipients: Team Cottage Café (commercial), Team Neptune (non-commercial) and Indian River High School’s Freezin’ Indians (student) . Thank you to Presenting Sponsor: PNC Bank; Supporting Sponsors: the Coastal Point and Coastal Tented Events; and shirt sponsors: Bethany Beach Books, the Penguin Diner and Sea Colony Recreational Association .
Nothing will rain on our parade… except for rain that is . Although rain was in the forecast, it didn’t dampen the spirits of all who attended the 52nd Annual Selbyville Christmas Parade on Friday, December 7 in downtown Selbyville . Locals from throughout the Quiet Resorts lined the streets to see classic cars, dance performances, festive floats, marching bands, and of course Santa Claus! Congratulations to the Indian River Marching Band for taking home not one, but two trophies: First Place Marching Band in honor of Jacqueline M . Pavik and the Overall Dazzler sponsored by the Coastal Point . Thank you to our Supporting Sponsors: Great Scott Broadcasting’s 95 .3, Mediacom and PNC Bank .
