Qualifications for Godparents are that they are practicing

Catholics, registered in a parish, attending Mass regularly,

baptized, confirmed, Holy Communion and if married,

married in the Catholic Church.

Godparents who live in another parish require a letter

from their pastor recommending them as godparents.

SCOUT SUNDAY will be celebrated on Sunday,

February 2 at the 11:00am Mass. All scouts (all

levels; boys and girls) are asked to come in

uniform and join us in the gathering space at 10:45am to be

a part of the entrance procession. An area near the choir will

be reserved for scouts and their families.

DOMINGO DE EXPLORADORES se celebrará el domingo

Souper Bowl of Caring was inspired by a simple prayer:

“Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help

us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to

eat”. This prayer along with a young seminary student

started the youth movement to come together for football

and fun, and to unify the nation in helping the needy by

collecting dollars and canned food that will benefit those in

your own community. All across the United States, groups

will gather to collect on the weekend of the “Big Game”,

February 1 & 2. All proceeds collected here will be sent to

the food pantries of Sacred Heart Southern Missions

(SHSM) and The Samaritans.

We ask that you be generous in helping us reach our goal

of $600.00 and 300 canned goods.

Super Tazón de Cuidado- se inspiró en una simple oración:

"Señor, incluso mientras disfrutamos del juego de fútbol,

ayúdanos a ser conscientes de aquellos que no tienen un

plato de sopa para comer". Esta oración junto con un joven

estudiante de seminario comenzó el movimiento juvenil para

unirse al fútbol y la diversión, y para unificar a la nación en

ayudar a los necesitados mediante la colecta de dólares y

alimentos enlatados que beneficiarán a los de su propia

comunidad. En todo EU, grupos de jóvenes se reunirán para

colectar durante el fin de semana del "Gran Juego", el 1 y 2

A CALL TO HOLINESS

128. This is not the joy held out by today’s

individualistic and consumerist culture.

Consumerism only bloats the heart. It can offer

occasional and passing pleasures, but not joy.

Here I am speaking of a joy lived in

communion, which shares and is shared, since

“there is more happiness in giving than in

receiving” (Acts 20:35) and “God loves a

cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7). Fraternal love

increases our capacity for joy, since it makes us

capable of rejoicing in the good of others:

“Rejoice with those who rejoice” (Rom 12:15).

“We rejoice when we are weak and you are

strong” (2 Cor 13:9). On the other hand, when

we “focus primarily on our own needs, we

condemn ourselves to a joyless

existence”.[102]

129. Holiness is also parrhesía: it is boldness,

an impulse to evangelize and to leave a mark in

this world. To allow us to do this, Jesus himself

comes and tells us once more, serenely yet

firmly: “Do not be afraid” (Mk 6:50). “I am

with you always, to the end of the world” (Mt

28:20). These words enable us to go forth and

serve with the same courage that the Holy

Spirit stirred up in the Apostles, impelling them

to proclaim Jesus Christ. Boldness, enthusiasm,

the freedom to speak out, apostolic fervour, all

these are included in the word parrhesía. The

Bible also uses this word to describe the

freedom of a life open to God and to others (cf.

Acts 4:29, 9:28, 28:31; 2 Cor 3:12; Eph 3:12;

Heb 3:6, 10:19).

128. No estoy hablando de la alegría consumista e

individualista tan presente en algunas experiencias

culturales de hoy. Porque el consumismo solo

empacha el corazón; puede brindar placeres

ocasionales y pasajeros, pero no gozo. Me refiero

más bien a esa alegría que se vive en comunión,

que se comparte y se reparte, porque «hay más

dicha en dar que en recibir» (Hch 20,35) y «Dios

ama al que da con alegría» (2 Co 9,7). El amor

fraterno multiplica nuestra capacidad de gozo, ya

que nos vuelve capaces de gozar con el bien de los

otros: «Alegraos con los que están alegres» (Rm

12,15). «Nos alegramos siendo débiles, con tal de

que vosotros seáis fuertes» (2 Co 13,9). En cambio,

si «nos concentramos en nuestras propias

necesidades, nos condenamos a vivir con poca

alegría»[102].

129. Al mismo tiempo, la santidad es parresía: es

audacia, es empuje evangelizador que deja una

marca en este mundo. Para que sea posible, el

mismo Jesús viene a nuestro encuentro y nos repite

con serenidad y firmeza: «No tengáis miedo»

(Mc 6,50). «Yo estoy con vosotros todos los días,

hasta el final de los tiempos» (Mt 28,20). Estas

palabras nos permiten caminar y servir con esa

actitud llena de coraje que suscitaba el Espíritu

Santo en los Apóstoles y los llevaba a anunciar a

Jesucristo. Audacia, entusiasmo, hablar con

libertad, fervor apostólico, todo eso se incluye en el

vocablo parresía, palabra con la que la Biblia

expresa también la libertad de una existencia que

está abierta, porque se encuentra disponible para

Dios y para los demás (cf. Hch 4,29; 9,28; 28,31;

2Co 3,12; Ef 3,12; Hb 3,6; 10,19).
