introductionbedrooms and secrets - the two definitely come as a pair. what mysteries lie behind these closed doors? to some, the bedroom is but a stopping point - a place of rest, but for others, this space could be a respite from the harsh realities of daily life; a place of comfort and warmth. we aim to convey the emotions one may feel in such times of solitude - when the ghosts of our past come out to play - haunting us as we sit waiting, wishing....

The SleepersSylvia Plath

No map traces the street Where those two sleepers are. We have lost track of it. They lie as if under water In a blue, unchanging light, The French window ajar

Curtained with Curtained with yellow lace. Through the narrow crack Odors of wet earth rise. The snail leaves a silver track; Dark thickets hedge the house. We take a backward look.

Among petals pale as death And leaves steadfast in shape They sleep on, mouth to mouth. A White mist is going up.

The small green nostrils breathe, And they turn in their sleep.

Ousted fOusted from that warm bed We are a dream they dream. Their eyelids keep the shade. No harm can come to them. We cast out skins and slide

Into another time.

PJs - we're not talking lacy barely-there slips, neither are we referring to frayed, ratty singlets covered in various stains collected over the past three years, we mean two-piece, loose-fitting garments in a traditional jacket-and-trousers combination. We're pretty sure most people have worn PJs to bed (or elsewhere...) at least once in their lives. What we want to know is, who still does? Other than the free-spirited ones who sleep in their birthday suits, everybody else is sure to have preferences when it comes to sleepwear - are jammies your choice of outfit? when it comes to sleepwear - are jammies your choice of outfit?

Page 39: fever dream

1. PJs are believed to have been first introduced in India in the late nineteenth century, for men to wear to sleep, replacing nightshirts.

2. PJs reached the height of their popularity in the 1920s, especially after it was reported that people were donning pajama suits to lounge in on the sands of the Lido of Venice, which was then probably the most fashionable summer place in Europe during the 1920s and the 1930s.

3. Female "skangers" (a derogatory term for the working-class youth subculture group in Ire3. Female "skangers" (a derogatory term for the working-class youth subculture group in Ire-land - they have a reputation for anti-social behaviour) are characterised as sporting pajamas

as all-day attire, along with bleached-blonde hair and large hoop earrings.

4. Julian Schnabel, the American artist-turned-film-maker who directed the award-winning film 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly', is known to like going out in pajamas or a sarong. His famous blue-and-yellow striped pajamas (paint-splattered, no less) were recently put up on Ebay in conjunction with the Dumbo Arts Center 'I Heart Art' benefit auction with a starting

price of US$2,000.

5. This isn't quite about pajamas - rather, a lack of. Posh Spice once revealed she sleeps in the nude because she "loves the feel of David (Beckham's) skin". If we should be so lucky...

Classic at it’s peak, this pot of sin has been around since 1949. Who can resist it’s smooth buttery texture? Not I. Slather over toast, have it on your favourite bisuits, pancakes perhaps, or lick it off your finger. Anything works when indulging in this perfect blend of roasted hazelnuts and chocolate, made from a (secret) recipe closely guarded by Ferrero. Nobody should have to go through life without ever tasting the goodness of Pietro ferrero’s nutella. Delight your tastebuds and end your day with a good doze of this luxurious snack.

NAUGHTY BUT NICE make everyday a nutella day

The cute purple polka dots and the radiantsmile of the little illustration of the sun firstcaught my eye. Upon opening the can, thesweet tantalizing aroma of the grape drink tickled my nostrils. I couldn’t wait to take a sip. As written on the can, it contains twentypepercent of real fruit juice so that is mostdefinitely a plus. This sweet drink is a nice finish to your day if you like your beveragesfruity. Get them at Ishi Mura, a japanesethemed food court located at Northpoint and PoMo centre(formally Paradiz centre).

Yum. This delightful little fruit is a favourite of mine. Luscious deep red flesh taking the shapeof hearts, they sport a green leafy top and are God’s work of art; christmasy colors and all.Chock full of vitamin C, low in calories and a great antioxidant, one thing’s for sure - you can never have too many strawberries. Dip them in whipped cream and sugar, or a bowl of decadent chocolate fondue to satisfy that sweet tooth. Whether savoury or sinful, this is one snack that everyone is sure to enjoy.

This seemingly austere, classic clock is actually a wacky alarm. Unlike other kinds of alarms with their annoying, shrill beeping, this alarm depends on polite recordings by comedian Stephen Fry. Our personal favourite is the one that goes “The world has been very anxious to hear from you for the last eight hours. Shall i inform the news agencies you are about to inform the news agencies you are about to rise, Sir?” With enough individual recordings to last three months without repetition, you can be sure you’ll wake up on time for a while.

Introducing the Shape Up Alarm Clock, an alarm that, once set off, requires 30 weightlifts to be successfully stopped. This novel clock will delight fitness freaks and appall lazy sloths. No matter what, we have to admit - this is one alarm that will definitely get the job

done.done.

One of the most inspiring sites we've ever seen, The Selby is run by Todd Selby, who photographs talented artists and designers in the privacy of their homes. What better way to learn new things about these eccentric (or not) artist types than through the kind of possessions they have and the way they decorate their homes? For starters, take a peek into the spaces of the likes of style maestro Erin Wasson, party photographer Mark The Cobrasnake (and his grandparents, too) and get a glimpse into the workspace of famous fash-ion designers such as Alexander Wang.. The Selby brings to you closer to ion designers such as Alexander Wang.. The Selby brings to you closer to the world of stars and their personal lives (for the voyeur in you).

The handwritten interview scans add to the feeling of intimacy - we are, after all, somewhat 'invading' the personal spaces of these people. Another great thing is The Selby Store, which stocks limited quantities of Obesity and Speed apparel and tote bags or accessories to show your support for The Selby.

The fourth single released from icelandic singer Bjork's sixth full-length album, Volta, Wander-lust is altogether beautiful and eccentric. The video, directed by Encyclopedia Pictura and shot in stereoscopic 3D, involves visually sumptuous action achieved through a combination of live action, miniatures, puppeteering and computer-generated animation. You can expect no less than bizarre from Bjork, whose previous videos have featured bears devouring Bjork herself, and a trip to the moon to plant a Soviet flag (Human Behaviour, 1993). 'Wanderlust', a song "about the state of looking for something and almost knowing you're never going to find it", blurs the line between dreams and reality, depicting a world where fantastical creatures, such as giant the line between dreams and reality, depicting a world where fantastical creatures, such as giant yaks (we have to admit they are quite endearing) and a strange cat called the Rivergod, exist. Bjork stars as an archetypal nomad, who 'splits' into a second self, the Painbody Backpack, and fascinated viewers are invited to observe the nature of their relationship.

The video is almost a year old already, so many of you might have seen it - this is for all of you living under a rock out there.

wanderlust

This melancholy video for a track taken off their debut album involves shadow puppet theatre - a big bird sets a girl off on a journey to deliver a mysterious gift, which is cut short when the girl is lured towards the sounds of music from a distance. She discovers this is being played by a skeleton, upon which she drops the gift. Slightly eerie and entirely befitting, this video was directed by Johannes Nyholm and performed by the members of the band themselves.members of the band themselves. An electronic band based in Gothenburg, Sweden, Little Dragon's vocalist Yukimi Nagano (who is Swedish-Japanese, lucky girl she is) charms with her soulful voice and when asked about the band and where they're headed, calls the band a "big passion", and describes creating music as "building a ship that will travel in a direction previously inconceivable". Indeed, the possibilities are endless and we are confident that this Little Dragon will sail to greater heights. this Little Dragon will sail to greater heights.

Dan Black of The Servant has recently released his first single, 'Alone', off his solo debut after the band split in November 2007. He makes his return to the world of music-making with a fresher, energetic sound, and has already been announced as one of the best rising stars in music on BBC's Sound of 2009. This catchy electro-pop tune, his recently released new single 'Alone', will get you off that couch and dancing in your bedroom - it's probably the closest you can get to starring as an extra in his vibrant video. Gotta love Black's adorable dancing style - and he looks dapper in ultra skinny jeans. Black's adorable dancing style - and he looks dapper in ultra skinny jeans. The video, by French direction/design team Chic Et Artistic, is super trippy and a breath of fresh air - Black's quirky antics are sure to entertain, and the stop-motion animation effects make for a psychedelic visual treat.

‘Yours’ positively radiates with energy. From grown men suspended in mid-air bobbing up and down (on inflatable toy sharks!! GIMME!) to fifteen people bouncing in unison on gym balls, the goofy video is a perfect match with the song's cheeky lyrics and staccato beat. It's all about a declaration of independence, and Black puts the message clearly across with this playful video.
