'We had the premiere at the Museum of the Horse (in Ruidoso Downs) several years ago." At 64 he's i10ing a lot more ofthe forraer, and he's still on hiscustom, bullt-from-scratch saddleorders ($1,500 and up; $2,500average). Also new on this year's tour isartist Jeff Chapman's PatosMountain Furoilure Ranch (over­looking the Palos (Duck)Mountains near While OaksPOllery outside of White Oaks).

Chapman, 47, who is also alicensed contractor, returned full­time 10 his firsl love...handmadefurnishings, lasl year turning out aline of aspen/pine log/pole beds,trunks, dressers, mirrors, framesand other designs.

Colorado-born, Chapman spenthis youth globe hopping as a mili­lary dependenl, spending time inSpain, Japan and California. For awhile he was part owner of areslauranl in Hawaii.

He hand tools his popular aspenlog beds in sizes from twin toCalifornia king (with or without acanopy). Prices on the pieces startin Ihe $400 range and go up fromthere.

Chapman is also experimentingwilh inlaid ceramics in his furni­lure (done by Whitt Oaks POlleryowner Ivy Heymann) and addingleather-tooled hardware (by sad­dlemaker Harlan Webb).

For Ihis year's studio tour,woodcarvers Mike and GeOrgiaLagg, as well a photographer PeterWolfe, will be displaying theirwork at Ivy Heymann's' WhiteOaks Potter studio.

Heymann, 42, arrived in WhiteOaks in 1976 with two things onher mind: pottery and black dia­mond skiing. She opened her stu­dio two years later.

Her, ski season ended a bit eadythis year when she broke a leg intwo places, then skied down themountain to the first aid station atSierra Blanca.
