Academic League

Advisor:Sherri Smith-Richardson

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:The Academic League’s mission is to offer students the platform to compete against their peers across Somerset County in a weekly challenge that utilizes their high academic knowledge and ability within a team environment that reflects the Franklin High School Team Spirit.

Goals of the Club: To give students the opportunity to learn from each other Enhance their knowledge Develop the ability to respond effectively in a competitive team environment by learning to trust

themselves, their competitive instincts, and their colleagues

Meeting Day / Location:Tuesdays / C101 Admission Criteria for Students:Students must attend weekly meetings to get an understanding of the purpose of the Academic League, the rules of the competitions, and to participate in mock competitions in preparation for actual competitions. Students must be willing to work, study, develop and share their knowledge for the benefit of themselves and the team.

African & Islands United

Admission Criteria for Students: By audition only and students must: Maintain a balance between school and dance; it is important that students succeed both in the

classroom and on the dance floor. This is their responsibility to understand quality time management between school, family, friends, work, and dance troupe commitments.

Punctual attendance: Tardiness and unexcused absences are not tolerated, in the classroom, as well as during dance

troupe commitments.

Be a positive role model to ALL Represent not only themselves, but also their teammates, coach, and Franklin High School.

DECA (Distributive Education Club of America)

Philosophy (Mission) Statement: DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

Goals of the Club:This is a vocational, student organization of students in Marketing Education programs that functions through local Chapters and the statewide organization. New Jersey DECA has as its purpose the furthering of the welfare of its members in the following ways: To enable the student to realize the importance of the duties in the Marketing field and to strive to

maintain the standards of the field as a profession. To develop progressive leadership that is competent, assertive, self-reliant, and cooperative in

Marketing Education through the exploration of vocational opportunities in this field. To create an appreciation of and an abiding interest in, chosen occupations as a vocation through

an understanding of the opportunities offered. To promote understanding and appreciation of the responsibilities of citizenship in our free

enterprise system. To encourage the use of high ethical standards in business and industry. To provide for mental and physical health through social and recreational activities. Environmental Club

Advisor:Ryan Parker

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:Through promoting education and awareness, advocating sustainable development, and initiating environmental programming on the FHS campus, the FHS Environmental Club seeks to establish FHS as an environmentally positive example for the benefit of FHS itself, the greater Somerset community and the world at large.

Goals of the Club: To work for the improvement of the FHS environment by educating students and faculty of their

recycling needs by implementing projects that will affect their way of life at school and in their community.

To create an atmosphere in the FHS hallways to foster environmental awareness. To empower students to take action and work toward building a sound environment ethic. To work closely with the Franklin Township recycling office to implement improved recycling

practices at FHS To leave a legacy of environmental awareness for friends and siblings to follow.

F.I.R.S.T. Robotics (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology Robotics)

Philosophy (Mission) Statement: The F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Team exists to introduce students to the real-world problems and problem solving strategies found in the fields of engineering and science. The club seeks not only to develop the student’s understanding of engineering, but also to develop their team work and communication skills.

Goals of the Club: Students will construct a robot and will compete in an annual competition sponsored by the

F.I.R.S.T. organization. Students must learn appropriate technical skills and work together as a team.

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:The purpose of the Color Guard is to present the Nation’s Colors with honor, pride, and dignity while maintaining a highly trained and disciplined appearance through the use of our bodies, rifles, and colors.

Goals of the Club: Build team work, confidence, discipline, alertness, attention to detail, Espirit de Corps, and Pride. Instill habits of precision and response to leader’s orders and provides the participant the

opportunity to practice commanding and directing. Aid in disciplinary training by instilling habits of precision and response to leader’s orders. Develop leadership skills and abilities necessary to become effective leaders. Be consistent. Show respect and care about the well being of their peers and subordinates. Follow regulations precisely, as an example for others to follow. Provide feedback or on the spot corrections when mistakes are noted.

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:To provide a means through drill training and drill competitions, of enhancing the moral of the corps of cadets, developing the spirit of cohesion, and presenting traditional and well executed military style ceremonies / events.

Goals of the Club: Build team work, confidence, discipline, alertness, attention to detail, Espirit de Corps, and Pride. Instill habits of precision and response to leader’s orders and provides the participant the

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:Gain appreciation and understanding of civilization of ancient Rome, thereby better enabling us to interpret our world today; provide a sound basis for expansion of our horizons and perspectives, intellectually and socially; create in others a sense of awareness, interest, and appreciation for the value of classics.

Goals of the Club: To increase participation in both our state and national conventions this year

Philosophy (Mission) Statement: Our mission is to provide students with access to technology, print materials, as well as to personally assist students in the development and completion of various projects. It is also our intention to provide students with various reading material and to encourage them to read for enjoyment.

Goals of the Club: Provide our FHS students access to technology and print materials to assist them in completing

projects, completing homework assignments, as well as pursuing personal interests.

Meeting Day / Location:Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday / Library Admission Criteria for Students:Students must have a Library Pass stating what the student is to be working on.

Literary Journal

Advisor:Aja Clark

Philosophy (Mission) Statement: Literary Club encourages students to express themselves through poetry, short-stories, and spoken word. Literature can therapeutic and uplifting; students who participate in the Literary Club learn a sense of self and others. Goals of the Club: Literary Club publishes a journal titled Epiphany Hosts an Annual Open Mic Night where the student body can display literary talent

National Honor Society

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:Our Chapter is part of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. The purpose is to recognize scholarship, to offer service to the school and to our local community, to promote leadership, and to develop character. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a qualified student. Selection is based on academic average, character, leadership and service.

REBEL (Reaching Everyone by Exposing Lies)

Philosophy (Mission) Statement: NJ REBEL was created to fight against the tobacco industry’s marketing tactics and against tobacco executives who target teens to get them to buy their products. Therefore, FHS REBEL Chapter mission is to reach out to every student in the Franklin Township School District so we can promote healthy lifestyle decisions and to change community norms regarding tobacco use. Goals of the Club: Educate and expose the dangers of tobacco, decrease teen tobacco use Promote community awareness on the dangers of tobacco Develop a comprehensive tobacco free program in the schools.

REEL Video / TV Production

Advisor:Michael Pinnix

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:Reel Video Club provides opportunities for students to express their ideas and creativity through video production. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their on-camera talents as well as their production techniques including directing shooting and editing.

Goals of the Club: Students will have the opportunity to produce programming for WANT TV, Channel 14, 2011

Device Drama and The Aspects of Video Awards. Students will have the option to create and produce music videos, short films, commercials, and

public service announcements. Students will be able to fundraise by hosting TV marathons, film festivals and by selling student

videos including Promenade, Video Yearbook, FBLA Fashion Show and the AVAs. Students will be exposed to guest speakers from the television industry and will be taught the

latest techniques in video production. Students can seize the opportunity to work with advanced technology in video production and

produce professional video reels for colleges and universities.

RIME (Raritan’s Introduction of Minorities to Engineering)

Philosophy (Mission) Statement:The FHS Yearbook has been the premier opportunity for students to assemble their own scrapbook, highlighting all of the events, that make FHS the elite school that it is. It is with this philosophy that we continue to create great memories and outstanding pictures of the year that was.

Goals of the Club: The book is separated into the sections. Each section is comprised of several pages, whose layout

and text are carefully written to fit the spirit of the school. Professional and amateur photographers, along with students, supply all of the pictures that go

into the book as well as hand crafted artwork in certain places. Often used as the last memory of high school, the tradition of the Warriors will be forever

remembered in the Shield.
