Traditional Oil Filtration

Standard oil filters are comprised of:Metal canisterPleated paper filter elementHoles for the oil to enter and exit

Oil circulates through the filter:Enters along the walls of the canisterFlows through the paper filter elementExits out the center

Traditional Oil Filtration

Lubricating oil is very viscousThe paper filter element must be very porous in order to provide high oil flow rates

Standard filters have a nominal porosity of 21 microns (µm)

Particles smaller than 21 µmPass through the paper filterFlow back into the engineContinue to circulate in the oil

Traditional Oil Filtration

Steel particlesPrinciple particles created in an engine during normal wear

Most are smaller than 21 µm

Oil lubricates the moving partsSteel particles in the oil are trapped between the lubricated surfaces

Particles cause grinding wear

More wear creates more particles

Cycle continues and wear increases

FilterMag® Breaks the Wear Cycle

Simply snap a FilterMag® on the outside of a standard oil filter

FilterMag’s powerful rare earth magnets attract and hold particles that would normally pass through the paper filter

The RESULTS are obvious

Page 7: FilterMag Industrial Intro

FilterMag® Breaks the Wear CycleThe black rectangles on the inside of this oil filter are particles captured by a FilterMag after only 100 hours of operation on a medium duty truck.

Most are less than 21µm

Too small to be seen individually

Millions of these wear causing particles align to form the outline of FilterMag’s powerful rare earth magnets

Microscopic photography shows the particles clumped together and held in place by the powerful magnetic field.

Many are smaller than 3µm

FilterMag® Breaks the Wear Cycle

Control of particles in the 3-10µm range had the greatest effect in reducing engine wear3

Particles < 10µm cause 3.5 X more wear than particles >10µm2

Engine wear was reduced at least 70% when oil filtration efficiency was improved beyond standard oil filters1

FilterMag® Breaks the Wear Cycle

How much life extension?

Depends on type of equipment and

improvement in oil cleanliness1

Typical FilterMag results2 Engines: 50-200% increase Hydraulics: 50-200% increase Bearings: 50-130% increase Gear Boxes: 30-50% increase

1 – As measured by ISO standard 4406 particle count2 – Based on 2 ISO code level improvement (Range <1 to >4) Results may vary

FilterMag® Breaks the Wear Cycle

Longer lasting lubricated components –

Fewer breakdowns → More up time

Cleaner oil –

Longer oil change intervals1

Save on oil usage and disposal

Save on oil filters

Less time in routine maintenance

→ More up time

1– Extending oil change intervals should only be done with a comprehensive oil analysis program

Reduced Wear→Reduced Wear→ Lower Maintenance Costs

Diesel Fuel Filtration

Diesel fuel is often contaminated with various particles including metals

Modern fuel injection systems operate at 30,000psi or higher

The effect is similar to sandblasting a fuel injector, causing premature wear

FilterMag® can capture many particles that primary and secondary filters miss

Customer’s photo of a secondary diesel fuel filter after just 5,000 miles

Note the particles missed by the primary fuel filter and trapped on the canister wall by the attached FilterMag®

Page 22: FilterMag Industrial Intro

Diesel Fuel FiltrationExtending the life of a fuel injection system will pay for the investment in FilterMag

Fuel only passes through the filter one time

Using 2 FilterMags in tandem is recommended for optimum results

Lower repair cost and better operating efficiency means

Fast Return on Investment (ROI) with FilterMag diesel fuel filtration

Hydraulic Fluid Filtration

Normal wear in hydraulic systems introduces microscopic steel particles into the hydraulic fluid

When re-circulated, these particles shorten the life of seals, valves and pumps thus reducing reliability

FilterMag® CTR products insert into hydraulic fluid reservoir tanks to capture these particles

CTR 8.0 magnets will fit many heavy equipment hydraulic tanks

Other sizes are available

Custom sizes upon request

Typically mounted to filler caps for ease of removal and cleaning
