PROGRAM & SITE ANALYSIS As my MW class picks Country site, I

tried to figure out what I can have advantages from it. First, there is more sun light than Town sites. This means we can have some advantages of the expression effect such as a shadow, and reflection. Second, we can also use trees and soft ground. We can dig the ground and tie a rope on the trees. The last one is more optional spot such as flat ground and slope.

RESEARCHTo find good materials, methods, and tools

that can be used for our final project. Also, it has to be recyclable, and reusable.I mainly searched in Home Depot websites

because it is easy to access and buy cheap stuffs. Also, when I compared some materials with other websites. Home Depot was cheaper than others too.

ITERATION #1

ITERATION #1INSIGHT

I thought of slope site for this iteration with nature response so that I put some visible ropes around iteration like spider web.

ISSUESHard to find

material source for visible ropes and also design was not so creative and satisfied myself.

ITERATION #2

ITERATION #2INSIGHT

This iteration was about eruption on flat ground.

I tried to have feeling of ground movement.

Also, there is sight view between gaps.

ISSUESIt isn’t made by

frame so that I need to figure out how to make this iteration frame

ITERATION #3

Page 12: Final learning portfolio

ITERATION #3INSIGHT

I started to make iteration that my team can use a tree for our support.

Thought of how to respond to our site and nature.

ISSUESDesign was too

general like a swing in a playground and also, there was no frame view.

Page 13: Final learning portfolio

ITERATION #4

Page 14: Final learning portfolio

ITERATION #4INSIGHT

Tried to response to tree more.

Use a hierarch with sticks.

Some ideas that we can make flat form for our slope site.

ISSUESI made it in too

narrow space so that we can’t make a good path way.

There is no frame view.

Page 15: Final learning portfolio

ITERATION #5

Page 16: Final learning portfolio

ITERATION #5INSIGHT

Stick on to the flat form idea for slope.

Put some path ways, frame view by crossing wood sticks.

Responding to the nature also by hierarchical design.

ISSUESToo complex.Flat form supporters

don’t look so reliable and sustainable.

Considering about how to connect three longest woods to the main tree.

ITERATION #6

ITERATION #6INSIGHT

I combined some ideas of iteration 4 and 5 so that I can respond to all the questions such as responding to nature, path ways, and frame view.

ISSUESI think it needs

more surfaces for better frame view such as visible or opaque fabric and ropes.

WEEK FIRSTWeek First, our team talked

about sites, main design and materials that we are going to be needed. We tried to choose one design as our main design so that all of us can fix and focus on. At the first time, we thought of flat ground as our main design form, but all flat ground were taken by other team. So we selected slope as our main design base form.

Page 21: Final learning portfolio

OUR MAIN SITE

Our main site is the third spot which is right next to the stairs. The reasons why we choose that spot are easy to access from walkways and good soccer field view. Also, there is enough sun light comes through.

Page 22: Final learning portfolio

DESIGN We tried to figure out final design as

what the professor asks us to do. It was really hard for us to find out at the first time. We made some iteration for our new design. We asked Jerry about our new design lots of times. Finally, we decided to use tree as canopy and use it as our main point.

FINAL DESIGN

Page 25: Final learning portfolio

MATERIALSWe thought of lots of materials such as

rope, fabric, woods, PVC pipes, iron, cyments, Ply wood, and some others.

We decided to use woods and fabric because we wanted to spend as less as we can.

We went to Home depot for researching price, actual size and feeling of materials.

WEEK SECONDINSIGHT

We made a frame for our model base form.

We discussed what we are going to start with. There was two options between frame and support.

We decided to build frame first because it was raining

ISSUESThere was raining so

that we can’t start what we tried to do, but we figured out a way to build.

Also, we learned how to connect frames by using connects materials.

Second Week Progress

Page 29: Final learning portfolio

WEEK THIRDINSIGHT

We attached more support beams for more sustainability and solidity next to the main support.

Put some extra bars into the ground for connecting ropes around our model and making a sight view.

ISSUESHard to dig some holes

because of big rocks, and also holes have to be deeper for safety.

One main support was not enough, so we put more supporters around main supports include beams.

THIRD WEEK PROGRESS

Page 31: Final learning portfolio

WEEK FOURTHINSIGHT

We put the fabric as model surfaces so that people can more focus on gab between surfaces.

Also, fabric is visible when it gets sun light, and shadow reflected on the fabric.

ISSUESWe connect rope

and fabric on ropes and trees, but it was loosen very well by strong wind.

We decided to use 2X2 wood instead of rope.

Page 32: Final learning portfolio

WEEK FOURTH PROGRESS

Page 33: Final learning portfolio

WEEK FIFTHINSIGHT

We reduced some fabric surfaces that can be hurt our view.

We made it more solid by attaching more 2X2 bars instead of rope.

Connect ropes by themselves without using nails or hook. It gives more complex frame view.

ISSUESWe needed to find a way

to connect the rope without any connectors such as nails and hook so that we made some hole in to 2X2 Wood.

We hang most of ropes on the tree so that it looks more natural.

Deconstructing after final presentation is done.

CONCLUSIONGOOD

Spend less money than others.

Sustainable and solid.Useful for real life.Easy to accessRopes help our

iteration more interesting such as angle of our rope from tree to bottom is nice because it blocks people to touch the bars so that people can’t break it.

Tree stays like canopy so that giving our model more nature.

BADBroken small scale

model so that we can’t show jurors to take a look before they see our big scale model.

Have a lot of potential, but it isn’t still satisfied all the answers.
