SEATTLE

Seattle is a West Coast seaport city and

the seat of King County. With an estimated

662,400 residents as of 2015, Seattle is

the largest city in both the state of Wash-

ington and the Pacific Northwest region of

North America. As of July 2013 it was the

fastest-growing major city in the United

States, and remained in the top five in May

2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%.

The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6

million inhabitants is the 15th largest met-

ropolitan area in the United States. The city

is situated on a narrow isthmus between

Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean)

and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160

km) south of the Canada–United States

border. A major gateway for trade with Asia,

Seattle is the 8th largest port in the United

States and 9th largest in North America in

terms of container handling.

DEVELOPMENTTo develop this letter-form I experimented both by

sketching and working digitally. I played around with

several typefaces and arrangements.

I worked to find ways to make the characters interact

with each other and to make the letter-form cohesive.

LET TERMARKOne of the aspects that makes the city of Seattle unique

is the recent rapid growth of the city because of the

large number of big corporations that take residence

there. I wanted this letter-form to look new and pro-

fessional to reflect that key part of the city. I kept the

letter-form bold to reflect the strong corporate environ-

ment that Seattle has.

UNIVERS

In my process I experimented with many different fonts

that I felt would best represent the city. In the end I

found that a sans serif font did the best, and the best

font was Univers. This font was the best to represent

corporate Seattle and how fast growing the city is today

because of the big businesses that reside there.

COLORSOne thing that really defines the city of Seattle is the

weather. It is very well known for being cold and very

rainy. To reflect this important hallmark of the city I

chose to use all cool colors to reflect the city’s climate.
