Origami is an art in which sheets of paper are trans-formed into model through folding and sculpting tech-

nique. While we might not always think about it, origami surrounds us in various forms, ranging from things as simple as envelopes to the fancy folds of napkins. Chil-

dren's love for origami is evidenced by how they are enamoured by paper airplane, paper hat or paper boat; making origami, a perfect activity to foster both cognitive

and motor skills. Students made paper snowman, umbrella and raindrops which were incorporated with the topic ‘Seasons’. Students enjoyed the activity which was

conducted with the aim of increasing manual dexterity, focus and concentration whilst improving 3D perception and logical thinking.

Bare branches, white snow, blue sky and the winds, Dry leaves fall off, green grass and plants grow.

The four seasons and their graceful hues, All together they make the year beautiful.

Seasons are such an integral part of our lives that its mention is exchanged along with the pleasantries. Our clothing,

activity and food habit are all guided by the daily weather. As kids grow and explore, their curious minds notice the change in weather and seasons. An interactive session was organised to sensitize the students to the attributes of

weather in different seasons. A practical demonstration was given with the help of props on the types of clothes worn in different season. The activity helped the young minds break the conundrum and get a clear understanding of weather

and seasons and the sequence of their appearance in the year.

Students demonstrated a remarkable performance as

they spoke on the topic ‘Seasons’. This monthly ac-

tivity gives kindergartners an opportunity to open up

and put forth their feelings and views in front of their peers. The kids were encouraged to speak coherently,

be confident and acquire public speaking skill.

It’s no secret that fine motor skill is the foundation of good handwriting. The muscles of fingers and

hands should be adequately trained to hold the pencil and write neatly. The activities, ‘threading with beads’

and ‘cotton bud art’ were conducted to develop essential fine-motor skill in children; with added benefit of improving their

focus & concentration and also introducing them to basic mathematical concepts.

'Storytelling' activity was held to give students

an opportunity to enhance their language and

express themselves more clearly. Kinder-

gartners arrived dressed up in costumes.

Flashing their props and puppets, the little

story tellers narrated their stories with confidence and poise. This

activity encouraged them to expand their vocabulary, think creative-

ly and understand how to structure a story.

We are fortunate to live in a culturally diverse coun-

try, where people of different ethnicities dwell har-

moniously. This activity was organised to allow our

students to explore various cultures giving them an

opportunity to learn and appreciate the diversi-

ty. Children arrived all dressed up in traditional

costumes. They spoke a few lines about the cultures

they represented and shared famous dishes from the worldly cuisines. Ms.

Anjali reinforced the topic and encouraged students to respect the differences

and similarities in different cultures. The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by

the little angels.

It’s the moral obligation of humans to protect and preserve the natural world from its anthro-pogenic afflictions. Taking this noble cause a step ahead, the student members of ‘Go Green

Team’ under the guidance of educator Ms Kshama Pandey, conducted an awareness drive in the school. Students carried out a “Good Litter Survey” by studying the amount and types of waste generated in the

school; and visited every classroom to spread awareness through posters, inspirational videos, environmental bro-chures and survey report. They also interviewed people of different age groups to seek their opinion on whether plas-

tic is a boon or curse. BIS Director Ms Ritu Verma praised the initiative and reiterated that discussing man-made en-vironmental issues instil hope for a clean world and pristine rainforest. Principal Dr Heena Rachh appreciated the ef-

fort and stressed that this noble cause should transcend and the drive should not be limited to the school campus. Coordinator Dr Preet kamal Bhatnagar insisted students to buy reusable products and support “Clean Power Plan.”

The month of January had kept the primary section actively involved in Interdisciplinary

Projects. IDP is a curriculum’s approach to consciously apply methodology from more

than one discipline to examine a central theme. Students were busy studying the

topics assigned for their grades from the perspective of all core subjects. The activity

encouraged the children to accomplish their tasks by doing researches, discussing with

parents, peers and teachers before arriving at a conclusion.

This method helped in creating awareness

among students of the meaningful connec-

tion that exist among the various disciplines

taught at school. Participation of students

in their learning process through age appro-

priate activities enhance their cognitive

skills such as critical thinking, reading

comprehension, analysis, in-class participa-

tion etc

The students of BIS appeared in the International Benchmark Tests for improving learning, 2016. International Benchmark Tests (IBT) is a high-quality skill-based educational assessment programme developed and administered

by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). It is a world leader in educational research, assessment and reporting. The International Benchmark Test (IBT) is not linked to any national curriculum, thus, leaving scope

for fair comparison of results internationally for core subjects like English, Mathematics and Science. They also pro-vide schools with detailed information about each student’s strengths and areas where they can improve for all sub-

jects. This encourages the students to develop skills related to problem solving, data interpretation, reasoning and critical thinking in a global context.

Result of International Benchmark Test are as follows:
