Do not use the camera in the bathroom or shower. This can cause a fre or electricshock.
Do not
disassemble
Never attempt to change or take apart the camera. (Never open the casing.) D o not use thecamera when it has been dropped or the casing is damaged. This can cause a fre orelectric shock. Contact your FUJIFILM dealer.
Do not change, heat or unduly twist or pull the connection cord and do not place heavy ob-jects on the connection cord. These actions could damage the cord and cause afre or electric shock. I the cord is damaged, contact your FUJIFILM dealer.
Do not place the camera on an unstable surace . This can cause the camera to all ortip over and cause injury.
Never attempt to take pictures while in motion. Do not use the camera while youare walking or driving a vehicle. This can result in you alling down or being
involved in a tra c accident .
Do not touch any metal parts o the camera during a thunderstorm. This can cause anelectric shock due to induced current rom the lightning discharge.
Do not use the batteries except as specied. Load the batteries as shown by theindicator.
Do not heat, change or take apart the batteries. Do not drop or subject the batteries toimpacts. Do not store the batteries with metallic products. Any o these actions cancause the batteries to burst or leak and cause fre or injury as a result.
Use only the batteries or AC power adapters specied or use with this camera. Do not usevoltages other than the power supply voltage shown. The use o other power sourcescan cause a fre.
I the batteries leak and uid gets in contact with your eyes, skin or clothing, ush theafected area with clean water and seek medical attention or call an emergency number
right away.
When carrying the batteries, install them in a digital camera or keep them in the hard case.When storing the batteries, keep them in the hard case. When discarding, cover the batteryterminals with insulation tape. Contact with other metallic objects or batteriescould cause the batteries to ignite or burst.
Keep memory cards out o the reach o small children . Because memory cards aresmall, they can be swallowed by children. Be sure to store memory cards outo the reach o small children. I a child swallows a memory card, seek medicalattention or call an emergency number.
CAUTIONCAUTIONDo not use this camera in locations afected by oil umes, steam, humidity or dust. Thiscan cause a fre or electric shock.
Do not leave this camera in places subject to extremely high temperatures . Do not leave
the camera in locations such as a sealed vehicle or in direct sunlight. Thiscan cause a fre.
Keep out o the reach o small children. This product could cause injury in thehands o a child.
Do not place heavy objects on the camera. This can cause the heavy object to tipover or all and cause injury.
Do not move the camera while the AC power adapter is still connected. Do not pull on theconnection cord to disconnect the AC power adapter. This can damage the powercord or cables and cause a fre or electric shock.
Do not cover or wrap the camera or the AC power adapter in a cloth or blanket. This cancause heat to build up and distort the casing or cause a fre.
When you are cleaning the camera or you do not plan to use the camera or an extendedperiod, remove the batteries and disconnect and unplug the AC power adapter. Failure todo so can cause a fre or electric shock.
When charging ends, unplug the charger rom the power socket. Leaving the chargerplugged into the power socket can cause a fre.
Using a ash too close to a persons eyes may temporarily afect the eyesight. Take par-ticular care when photographing inants and young children.
When a memory card is removed, the card could come out o the slot too quickly. Use yournger to hold it and gently release the card.
Request regular internal testing and cleaning or your camera. Build-up o dust in your
camera can cause a fre or electric shock. Contact your FUJIFILM dealer torequest internal cleaning every two years. Please note that this service is notree o charge.
Using Batteries
The ollowing describes the proper use o batteries and how to prolongtheir lie. Incorrect use can shorten battery lie or cause leakage, overheat-ing, fre, or explosion.
Compatible Batteries The camera takes AA alkaline, rechargeable Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride),or UL-certifed lithium batteries. Do not use manganese, nickel-cadmium
(Ni-Cd), or non-UL certifed lithium batteries, as the heat generated by thesebatteries could damage the camera or cause malunction.

Battery capacity varies with makeand storage conditions. Some com-mercially-available batteries mayhave less capacity than the batteriesprovided with the camera.
Cautions: Handling Batteries
Do not use batteries that are leaking,deormed, or discolored. Warning: Ithe batteries leak, clean the batterycompartment thoroughly beore in-serting new batteries. I uid romthe battery comes into contact withskin or clothing, ush the aectedarea with water. I uid enters your eyes,immediately ush the afected area with
water and seek medical attention. Do notrub your eyes. Failure to observe this pre-caution could result in loss o eyesight.
Do not transport or store withmetal objects such as necklaces orhairpins.
Do not disassemble or modiy thebatteries or battery casing.
Do not expose to strong physicalshocks.
Do not expose to water, ame, or
heat, or store in warm or humidconditions.
Keep out o reach o inants andsmall children.
Insert in the correct orientation. Do not mix old and new batteries,
batteries with dierent charge lev-els, or batteries o dierent types.
I the camera will not be used oran extended period, remove thebatteries. Note that the camera
clock will be reset (pg. 14). The batteries may be warm to the
touch immediately ater use. Turn
the camera o and allow the bat-teries to cool beore handling.
Battery capacity tends to decreaseat low temperatures . Keep sparebatteries in a pocket or other warm
place and exchange as necessary.Cold batteries may recover someo their charge when warmed.
Fingerprints and other oreignmatter on the battery terminalscan reduce battery perormance. Thoroughly clean the terminalswith a sot, dry cloth beore insert-ing the batteries in the camera.
Ni-MH Batteries
The capacity o Ni-MH batteries maybe temporarily reduced when new,ater long periods o disuse, or i theyare repeatedly recharged beore be-ing ully discharged. This is normaland does not indicate a malunc-tion. Capacity can be increased byrepeatedly discharging the batteriesusing thePDISCHARGE option inthe camera setup menu (pg. 100)and recharging them using a battery
charger (sold separately). Do not usethis option with alkaline batteries.
The camera draws a small amount ocurrent even when o. Ni-MH batter-ies that have been let in the cameraor an extended period may be drawndown to the point that they no longerhold a charge. Battery perormancemay also drop i the batteries are rundown in a device such as a ashlight.Use thePDISCHARGE option in thecamera setup menu to discharge Ni-MH batteries. Batteries that no lon-
ger hold a charge even ater repeat-edly being discharged and rechargedhave reached the end o their servicelie and must be replaced.
Ni-MH batteries can be recharged ina battery charger (sold separately).Batteries may become warm to thetouch ater charging. Reer to the in-structions provided with the chargeror more inormation. Use the char-ger with compatible batteries only.
Ni-MH batteries gradually lose theircharge when not in use.
Disposal
Dispose o used batteries in accordwith local regulations.
AC Power Adapters (Available Separately)
Use only FUJIFILM AC power adapt-ers designated or use with this cam-era. Other adapters could damagethe camera. The adapter is or indoor use only. Be sure the DC plug is securely
connected to the camera. Turn the camera o beore discon-
necting the adapter. Disconnect theadapter by the plug, not the cable.
Do not use with other devices. Do not disassemble. Do not expose to high heat and
humidity. Do not subject to strong physical
shocks. The adapter may hum or become hot to
the touch during use. This is normal. I the adapter causes radio inter-
erence, reorient or relocate thereceiving antenna.
Using the Camera
To ensure that images are recordedcorrectly, do not subject the camerato impact or physical shocks whileimages are being recorded.
Electrical IntererenceThis camera may interere with hospitalor aviation equipment. Consult withhospital or airline sta beore using thecamera in a hospital or on an aircrat.
Liquid CrystalIn the event that the monitor or elec-tronic viewfnder is damaged, careshould be taken to avoid contactwith liquid crystal. Take the urgent
action indicated should any o theollowing situations arise: I liquid crystal comes in contact with
your skin, clean the area with a clothand then wash thoroughly withsoap and running water.
I liquid crystal enters your eyes, ushthe aected eye with clean wateror at least 15 minutes and thenseek medical assistance.
I liquid crystal is swallowed , rinse
your mouth thoroughly with water.Drink large quantities o water andinduce vomiting, then seek medi-cal assistance.
Take Test ShotsBeore taking photographs on impor-tant occasions (such as at weddingsor beore taking the camera on a trip),take a test shot and view the result toensure that the camera is unction-ing normally. FUJIFILM Corporation

The Electronic Viewfnder (EVF)
The electronic viewfnder provides the same inormation as the monitor, and can be used when bright light-
ing conditions make the display in the monitor di cult to see. To switch between the monitor and electronic
viewfnder, press the EVF/LCD button (your selection remains in eect when the camera is turned o or the modedial is rotated to another setting).

Inserting the Batteries
The camera takes our AA alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. A set o our alkaline bat-
teries is supplied with the camera. Insert the batteries in the camera as described below.

Do not open the battery-chamber cover when

Inserting a Memory Card
Although the camera can store pictures in internal memory, SD memory cards (sold separately) can be
used to store additional pictures.
When no memory card is inserted,a appears in the monitor and internal memory is used or recording
and playback. Note that because camera malunction could cause internal memory to become cor-rupted, the pictures in internal memory should periodically be transerred to a computer and saved on
the computer hard disk or on removable media such as CDs or DVDs. The pictures in internal memory
can also be copied to a memory card (see page 87). To prevent internal memory rom becoming ull,
be sure to delete pictures when they are no longer needed.
When a memory card is inserted as described below, the card will be used or recording and playback.

Operation is not guaranteed with other cards. The camera can not be used withxD-Picture Cards or

Memory cards can be locked, making it impossible to ormat the card or to record or deleteimages. Beore inserting a memory card, slide the write-protect switch to the unlocked posi-

3 Cautions
Do not turn the camera of or remove the memory card while the memory card is being ormatted or data are being recorded to or
deleted rom the card. Failure to observe this precaution could damage the card.
Format memory cards beore frst use, and be sure to reormat all memory cards ater using them in a computer
or other device. For more inormation on ormatting memory cards, see page 98.
Memory cards are small and can be swallowed; keep out o reach o children. I a child swallows a memory card,
seek medical assistance immediately.
miniSD or microSD adapters that are larger or smaller than the standard dimensions o an SD card may not eject
normally; i the card does not eject, take the camera to an authorized service representative. Do not orcibly
remove the card.
Do not a x labels to memory cards. Peeling labels can cause camera malunction.
Movie recording may be interrupted with some types o memory card. Use a card with a class 4 write speed(4 MB/s) or better when shooting HD movies.
The data in internal memory may be erased or corrupted when the camera is repaired. Please note that the
repairer will be able to view pictures in internal memory.
Formatting a memory card or internal memory in the camera creates a older in which pictures are stored. Do
not rename or delete this older or use a computer or other device to edit, delete, or rename image fles. Always
use the camera to delete pictures rom memory cards and internal memory; beore editing or renaming fles,
copy them to a computer and edit or rename the copies, not the originals.

In situations in which camera sounds or lights may
be unwelcome, hold the DISP/BACK button down until
his displayed (note that silent mode is not availableduring movie or voice memo playback).
The camera speaker and AF-assist illuminator/sel-timer lamp turn o and volume (pg. 94) can not be
adjusted (note that the AF-assist illuminator may still
light whenC is selected in scene mode). To restore
normal operation, press the DISP/BACK button until the

Intelligent Face Detection allows the camera to automatically detect human aces and set ocus and
exposure or a ace anywhere in the rame or shots that emphasize portrait subjects. Choose or
group portraits (in horizontal or vertical orientations) to prevent the camera rom ocusing on the back-
ground. Intelligent Face Detection also oers a blink detection option as well as red-eye removal or
removing red-eye eects caused by the ash.

Autoocus
Although the camera boasts a high-precision autoo-
cus system, it may be unable to ocus on the subjects
listed below. I the camera is unable to ocus using
autoocus, use ocus lock (pg. 24) to ocus on another
subject at the same distance and then recompose
the photograph.
Very shiny subjects such
as mirrors or car bodies.
Fast-moving subjects.
Subjects photographed through a window or other
reective object.
Dark subjects and subjects that absorb rather than
reect light, such as hair or ur.
Insubstantial subjects, such as smoke or ame.
Subjects that show little contrast with the back-ground (or example, subjects in clothing that is the
same color as the background).
Subjects positioned in ront o or behind a high-
contrast object that is also in the ocus rame (or
example, a subject photographed against a back-
drop o highly contrasting elements).
The AF-Assist Illuminator
I the subject is poorly lit, the AF-assist illuminator will
light to assist the ocus operation when the shutter
button is pressed halway.

When the ash is used, the cameras Intelligent Flash system instantly analyzes the scene based on
such actors as the brightness o the subject, its position in the rame, and its distance rom the camera.
Flash output and sensitivity are adjusted to ensure that the main subject is correctly exposed while
preserving the eects o ambient background lighting, even in dimly-lit indoor scenes. Use the ash
when lighting is poor, or example when shooting at night or indoors under low light.
1 Raise the fash.Press the ash pop-up button to raise the ash.

Lower the ash where ash photography is prohibited or to capture natural lighting
