    THE CD-ROM. BY OPENING THE PACKAGE, YOU ACCEPT ANDAGREE TO BE BOUND BY THIS AGREEMENT.

    End User License Agreement

    This End User License Agreement (Agreement) is an agreement betweenFUJIFILM Corporation (FUJIFILM) and you, which sets forth the termsand conditions of the license granted for you to use the software providedby FUJIFILM.The CD-ROM contains third party software. In case a separate agreementis provided by a third party supplier for its software, the provisions of suchseparate agreement shall apply to the use of such third party software,prevailing over those of this Agreement.

    1. Definitions.(a) Media means the CD-ROM titled Software for FinePix CX- whichis provided to you together with this Agreement.

    (b) Software means the software which is recorded on Media.(c) Documentation means the operation manuals of Software and

    other related written materials which are provided to you togetherwith Media.

    (d) Product means Media (including Software) and Documentationcollectively.

    2. Use of Software.FUJIFILM grants to you a nontransferable, nonexclusive license:(a) to install one copy of Software onto one computer in binary machine

    executable form;(b) to use Software on the computer onto which Software is installed; and

    (c) to make one backup copy of Software.3. Restrictions.

    3.1 You shall not distribute, rent, lease or otherwise transfer all or anypart of Software, Media or Documentation to any third party withoutFUJIFILMs prior written consent. You also shall not sublicense,assign or otherwise transfer all or any part of the rights granted toyou by FUJIFILM under this Agreement without FUJIFILMs priorwritten consent.

    3.2 Except as expressly granted by FUJIFILM hereunder, you shall notcopy or reproduce all or any part of Software or Documentation.

    3.3 You shall not modify, adapt or translate Software or Documentation.You also shall not alter or remove copyright and other proprietarynotices that appear on or in Software or Documentation.

    3.4 You shall not, or shall not have any third party, reverse-engineer,decompile, or disassemble Software.

    4. Ownership.All copyrights and other proprietary rights to Software and Documentation areowned and retained by FUJIFILM or the third party suppliers as indicated onor in Software or Documentation. Nothing contained herein shall beconstrued, expressly or implicitly, as transferring or granting any right, license,or title to you other than those explicitly granted under this Agreement.

    5. Limited Warranty.FUJIFILM warrants to you that Media is free from any defect in materialand workmanship under normal use for ninety (90) days from the dateof your receipt of Media. Should Media not meet the foregoing warranty,FUJIFILM shall replace such defective Media with other Media bearingno defect. FUJIFILMs entire liability and your sole and exclusiveremedy with regard to any defect in Media shall be expressly limited tosuch FUJIFILMs replacement of Media as provided herein

    6. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY.EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 5 HEREIN, FUJIFILM PROVIDESPRODUCT AS IS AND WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND,EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. FUJIFILM SHALL MAKE NO WARRANTY,EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, AS TO ANY OTHER MATTERS,INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO NON-INFRINGEMENT OF ANY

    8. No export.You acknowledge that neither Software nor any part thereof, will betransferred, or exported to any country or used in any manner in violationof any export control laws and regulations to which Software is subject.

    9. Termination.In case you breach any of the terms and conditions hereof, FUJIFILMmay immediately terminate this Agreement without any notice.

    10.Term.This Agreement is effective until the date when you cease to useSoftware, unless earlier terminated in accordance with Section 9 hereof.

    11. Obligation upon termination.Upon termination or expiration of this Agreement, you shall, at your ownresponsibility and expense, delete or destroy immediately all Software(including its copies), Media and Documentation.

    12. Governing Law.This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance withlaws of Japan.

    Be sure to read this page before using the software.

    For important photographs (such as weddings andoverseas trips), always take a test shot and view theimage to make sure that the camera is working normally. FUJIFILM Corporation cannot accept liability for any

    incidental losses (such as the costs of photography orthe loss of income from photography) incurred as aresult of faults with this product.

    Images recorded using your digital camera system cannotbe used in ways that infringe copyright laws without theconsent of the owner, unless intended only for personaluse. Note that some restrictions apply to the

    photographing of stage performances, entertainmentsand exhibits, even when intended purely for personal use.Users are also asked to note that the transfer ofxD-Picture Cardcontaining images or data protectedunder copyright laws is only permissible within therestrictions imposed by those copyright laws.

    ZHandling Your Digital Camera

    This camera contains precision electronic components.To ensure that images are recorded correctly, do not

    subject the camera to impact or shock while an image isbeing recorded.

    Z Liquid Crystal

    If the LCD monitor is damaged, take particular care withthe liquid crystal in the monitor. If any of the followingsituations arise, take the urgent action indicated. If liquid crystal comes in contact with your skin

    Wipe the area with a cloth and then wash thoroughlywith soap and running water.

    If liquid crystal gets into your eyeFlush the affected eye with clean water for at least 15minutes and then seek medical assistance.

    If liquid crystal is swallowedFlush your mouth thoroughly with water. Drink largequantities of water and induce vomiting. Then seekmedical assistance.

    Loading the Battery

    Battery is required to operate the digital camera. At first,load the battery in the camera.

    ZCompatible battery

    Rechargeable Battery NP-40 (1)

    CAUTION

    The battery is not fully charged at shipment and must befully charged before being used.

    Do not stick labels onto the battery as this could causethe battery to become jammed inside the camera. Any contact between the battery terminals could cause

    the battery to short circuit and overheat. See p.126-127 for information on the battery. Always use the Rechargeable Battery NP-40

    (included). The use of other brands of rechargeablebattery could cause faults or damage to the camera.

    1 Open the battery cover.

    CHECK

    Check that the camera is turned off before opening the

    battery cover.

    CAUTION

    Do not open the battery cover while the camera is on.This could damage the xD-Picture Cardor ruin theimage files on the xD-Picture Card.

    Do not apply force to the battery cover.

    Only connect and disconnect the AC power adapterwhen the camera is off. Connecting or disconnectingthe AC power adapter while the camera is ontemporarily interrupts the power supply to the camera,which will stop the recording of images or movies beingshot. Failing to turn the camera off before connecting/disconnecting can also result in damage to the xD-Picture Cardor malfunctions during PC connection.

    Battery protection function

    When you try to charge the battery immediately after thecamera has been used continuously for a long period,charging may not begin soon (the indicator lamp does not turnred).

    This is not a camera fault, but is for protecting the battery frombeing charged while it is warm. Battery may degrade whencharged at high temperatures.Leave the camera connected to the AC power adapter, andcharging will automatically begin within 30 minutes.

    CAUTIONNotes on charging the battery

    Turning the camera on during charging interrupts the

    charging. Charging times increase at low temperatures.

    Checking the battery charge

    Turn the camera on and check the battery level indicatoron the LCD monitor.

    Although you can store pictures in the cameras internalmemory, you can store many more images on the xD-Picture Card(sold separately). There is a slot for the xD-Picture Cardinside the battery compartment.

    1 Open the battery cover.

    How to replace the xD-Picture Card

    When the camera is detecting multiple faces, the green

    frame is set around the face near the center. If you wantto focus on another subject, move the camera so thatthe new subject is in the center of the LCD monitor.If focus is still not achieved, press (Intelligent FaceDetection) to turn off the function, and take the pictureusing AF/AE lock (p.30).Intelligent Face Detection can focus on a face in a whiteframe providing the subjects in the green and whiteframe are of the same focal length.

    When the shutter button is pressed halfway withIntelligent Face Detection off, the focus will be on the

    Subjects not suitable for Intelligent Face Detection

    Intelligent Face Detection automatically focuses on a face(s)turned towards the camera. However, difficulties will occurwith the Intelligent Face Detection mode in the followingsituations:

    The face is obscured by glasses, sunglasses, a hat, or hair. A person turned sideways, or who has their head tilted. The subject is too far away to recognize a face.

    Intelligent Face Detection will not work in cases where thesubject is standing on his/her head, is not a person (pet orother animal), or if the camera is not held correctly.

    You can select the most suitable setting according to thesubject by selecting one of the Shooting modes.

    This mode can reduce both camera blur and subject blurby increasing the shutter speed.

    This mode shoots 2 images continuously without flashand with flash. Shooting with flash allows you to take apicture of a main subject brightly. Shooting without flashproduces beautiful images that retain the naturalambience. This mode is useful for shooting 2 differenttypes of pictures at the same time.

    When pressing the shutter button, first picture is takenwithout flash and next picture is taken with flash.Always 2 pictures are taken per 1 shot.Do not move the camera until the shooting ended.

    This is the easiest mode for providing crisp and clearshots.Use this mode for ordinary photography.Camera specifies all setting other than p-MODE (Qualityand FinePix COLOR) automatically.

    MEMO What is Intelligent Flash?

    The Intelligent Flash feature instantly determines thesubjects position, distance from the camera, exposure,etc., and automatically adjusts the camera settings to theoptimal flash volume and sensitivity for the scene. Evendimly lit indoor scenes can be shot beautifully, just as theyappear, without subjects being washed out or losingbackground details.The Intelligent Flash feature is always used whenshooting with flash.

    When pressing the shutter button down halfway, bappears on the LCD monitor before the flash fires.

    Use this mode for ordinary photography.

    MEMO Red-eye effect

    When using the flash to take a picture of people in low-light conditions, their eyes sometimes appear red in thepicture. This is caused by the light of the flash reflectingoff the inside of the eye.

    As long as the shutter button is held down, the camerawill continue to take pictures.

    The exposure is determined in the first frame, but inLONG PERIOD continuous shooting the exposure isadjusted for the scene being shot.

    The speed of continuous shooting varies depending onthe shutter speed.
