An important center for teaching and
engineering research in Latin America.
The Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro, which has 12 postgraduate
programs (masters and doctorates),
has already trained more than 11,000
masters and 5000 doctors and today
has a faculty of 320 full-time doctors,
2,600 students and 350 employees,
including researchers and staff
technical and administrative. It has 116
modern laboratories, which form the
largest laboratory complex in the
country in engineering.

The city of Rio de Janeiro is home to
Research Centers of Excellence such
as CENPES Petrobras in the
Technology Park of the Federal
Univesity of Rio de Janeiro, where
research centers of companies from all
over the world, such as
Schlumberger, FMC, Siemens,
Halliburton, Baker Hughes, EMC2
and GE.
Technological Parks
The Catholic University of Rio de
Janeiro is also notable for its
postgraduate courses in science and
engineering, especially computer
science, mechanical engineering -
maximum concept seven in
Coordination for the Improvement of
Higher Education Personnel
(CAPES), electrical engineering and
civil engineering (concept six),
Mathematics, Chemistry and
Physics (concept five).

PRÉ-ACELERA
Pré Acelera is a program that aims to bring innovative projects from Lab to Market.
Projects come from SENAI Projetos Integradores, an innovation challenge in which SENAI
students bring innovative ideas to solve challenges from the industry.
Pré Acelera is aligned with Mapa de Desenvolvimento (FIRJAN Strategic
Plan), working to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in Rio de Janeiro,
preparing students to be part in the new developing innovation environment:
a world of growing startups, new business models, accelerators and
coworking spaces.

SENAI FABLAB
Workplace Adaptation and Professional
Qualification of Persons with Disabilities. The
project provided for the qualification of people
with special needs in the field of aviation
mechanics on SENAI Petropolis and workplace
adaptation with the workplace safety engineers
of SESI-RJ. Of the 16 students who graduated
from the course in 2011, 12 are employed.
