fbcmonroe.com Vol. 45 Issue 37 First Baptist Monroe November 8, 2017 Newsletter WARE IT IS Dr. Todd Ware Senior Pastor Sunday brought us the tragic news of the attack on our fellow believers as they gathered to worship in Texas. Ours is a sick world in desperate need of the Gospel. Continue to pray for the victims of the tragedy, and also pray that God’s Church responds more out of love and hope than out of fear. Pray for our church leadership as we determine the best strategy for a safe campus while also maintaining a welcoming posture to those seeking a church home. MISSIONS & MINISTRY CELEBRATION I want to thank Margie Briscoe, Mike & Sallie Eckles, and Decie Miller for a wonderful meal and atmosphere for our celebration. We were able to hear from and pray for several of our partners. It was a good opportunity to celebrate the larger picture of FBC Missions. Speaking of celebrating, I am thankful for your gifts to world hunger ($5,850) and disaster relief ($25,215.23). You can also read a great article in the The Christian Index about our young people’s relief efforts at christianindex.org/challenge-students-watch-excel. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD We need your help. In order to put together 1000 shoeboxes for children around the world, we need our members to prepare a box or two. If you would rather, you can cover the cost of a box including shipping by contributing $20. The boxes will be delivered to the our regional collection point on Sunday, November 19. VISITATION MINISTRY Simple acts of kindness can make a big difference in others’ lives. You’re invited to join us in the fellowship hall on Sunday, November 19, at 4:00pm as we begin our Sunday afternoon doorstep visits. Welcoming others among us is important Kingdom work. HOME ALONE, TOO? Make a reservation, prepare a dish, and get ready for some football! It’s a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving Day. The doors to the fellowship hall will open around 10am and we will enjoy lunch at noon. If you’re planning on coming, call the office to let us know what dish you’re preparing and how many, if any, you’re bringing with you. Serving Jesus Together, Pastor Todd

Sunday brought us the tragic news of the attack on our fellow believers as they gathered to worship in Texas. Ours is a sick world in desperate need of the Gospel. Continue to pray

JUST TAKE A BREATH…Dr. Greg DeLoachTeaching Pastor

Has anyone ever told you to just “take a breath?”

Sometimes when I am speaking I have to remember to slow down and “take a

breath.” Other times I feel anxious or frantic or just plain distracted and I find myself huffing and puffing as I jump from task to task.

Just breathe.

For many years Amy and I attended weekly yoga classes where we learned the importance of good breathing. “In the nose and out the nose,” our instructor reminded us. When there is stress and chaos going on in your life in a very real way you forget to breathe and so you might find yourself sighing a lot. When you feel deep stress, you breathe very shallow breaths. Your body compensates for the lack of oxygen by making you sigh and take a deep breath.

Just breathe.

We go from task to task and stress to stress assuming that it is all about our power, our strength, our will and like a marathoner stumbling along the road we are panting and limping along.

Just breathe.

School is in full session, papers are due and exams are on the near horizon. Schedules are full with the demands of self, family, friends and church. You may even feel like there is just not enough time in the day. Not only that, the world is still a mess with the news of hardships, heartaches and conflict.

Just breathe.

It was God who breathed a universe into being and God who gives to us the breath of life and God who breathes for us when we realize we cannot make it on our own. I am comforted in knowing that as I draw my breath I do so because of the grace and love

of God’s gift. It is so for each of us. It is so for this church. When we remember this, we may rest easier not because all of our stress and strain disappears, but because we do not have to bear it all alone.

Just breathe.

Pastor Greg

…then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being…(Genesis 2:7)
